I visited Aizu for a couple of days. I got a shiver down my spine when I first pulled into the station, but that quickly went when I realised it was like any other rural station.

Aizu is in a flat area between hills, so the station has nice views over the town from the bridges. It's a nice station from the outside, it's got a cool samurai theme going on to go with the towns history.

It's not spectacular and I didn't really expect it to be, but it is quite a nice place in winter and it does service the Tadami line, possibly the best line in the world.

There's a bunch of things to check out in Aizu. It was the site of the Battle of Aizu during the Meiji Restoration, one of the Shogunate's last stands.

I'd recommend Iimori-san and the Byakkotai graves, you can search for information on that, and the castle which is a reconstruction and now a museum. There's nice views from the old caste walls. There's a bus which will go around all the locations and cost 500 yen for the day. I could find and post the tourist maps they gave me.

Tadami-sen is incredible. I ended up going on a bad day, it was cold and rainy the whole time, but I'll never forget going through the valley on an empty train, seeing the mist rising from the forests. Amazing little stations all along the route and Kaneyama where the terminal station is is a surreal place. Perhaps that was more about the time I visited though.

It's tied with Watarase Keikoku-sen for best line though.

Yes. The city trains are extremely punctual but the country ones can be up to a few minutes late.
This is because they more often share lines and have to wait at a station for a train coming the other direction. Small delays like this would compound over the course of the day.

We do need some content being posted, so I would definitely encourage you to do more time-lapses.

Sadly, I do not know how to do a proper time-lapse like the other anon; unlike him , I am a complete amateur at this. I merely manually take a screenshot every afternoon at 4.10pm-ish, crop it in MS paint and (when I have enough built up) stitch it all together in Windows Movie Maker, then covert it to webm in Webm For Bakas. I would like to make the webm less blurry and pixilated without losing the resolution or filesize but don't know how to do this.

That explains a lot. You will have to actually record video. Check the pastebin in the OP. It has some ffmpeg commands, but I can't promise you won't have to search online for extra knowledge. The only thing not written there that I can help you with is that you need ffmpeg + youtube-dl for youtube streams. The commands should be the same, but with youtube-dl in the front.

I don't know the ms model for the streaming solution but here is some speculation:
the direct link was ASF so it's likely to depend on the silverlight implementation that was packaged with whatever microshit software solution they were using

chances are they were using an outdated silverlight version and did not want to maintain it in any way whether that meant upgrading to V5 or html5 supported formats.

Any good typhoon streams? FNN CH1 has a nice coastal cam with sound in Iwaki.

So far I have seen one day when it was off all night, not sure if the typhoon had anything to do with that.

afaik, the normal schedule that was followed historically was turning it off after midnight

First time we went there happened to be during bunka no hi & we spent a lot of time going to random cultural events. In Kyoto they had school culture days around then so we got the chance to go into a lot of them. Since then when we've been over there 8/10 times it's been in the autumn most times falling during that holiday & a couple of the times i've been over there on work contracts it's also been during that time so I guess I just have a fond reminiscence of it.

there's not really enough detail or dynamic events happening to warrant full video capture although it might be nice for sunset/sunrises

much easier to just get a frame every time increment that way it can run for a long time without worrying about space. Also makes it easy to look through individual frames for RARE events

These cameras are the fucking best, stream them on my smart TV to keep me company whilst dreaming of Nihon. Thanks for the posts and the pastebins. One day I will return to this magical land.

Liking the new cam, I must say 'people watching' seems to interest me more. I love seeing those people that get to the shrines early just for morning exercise or to have some quiet time.

Photos look much better on my 4K TV than my phone camera it would seem.

I feel the same anon, watching it for years it became familiar, it was good because it never really changed. Trains would come and go, the snow would fall, and then melt. It was a nice constant for me, no matter what happened the station would still be there, and the trains would be running (or stopped due to snow). Then one day I woke up and it wasn't there anymore

I'm rarely (maybe twice a month) on /jp/ but i always see a train station thread. I just have to ask, why are you guys watching train stations? Because it's comfy? If so, why this particular one?

Pretty much.

Personally the reason I liked Aizu-Wakamatsu cam was the location. It was remote enough to not be constantly busy. Sometimes it would be packed and other times it would feel like it was almost empty. During the winter it would also occasionally snow which was really comfy.

Unfortunately Aizu-Wakamatsu cam went down in March so we've been looking for others.

Days are passing and that gives me hope, but I still have to wait some months before I move to Japan again.
