This meme has become rather tiresome, so let me just explain why you're wrong.

First, the mini-hakkero is more or less simply a tool that produces immense heat. Is that an advantage that gives Marisa a leg up over others? Sure. But the applications of said power, such as the Master Spark and its variations, are products of her own ingenuity and experimentation with the tool. Without a proper handler, the mini-hakkero is nothing more than a paperweight that can heat your home (which is pretty much all Rinnosuke was doing with it before he gifted it to Marisa).
Second, it seems like few of Marisa's attacks actually utilize the thing. There's no mention of it pre-PC98, so it's safe to say that things like her flight, basic danmaku, and variations on orreries sun, are all products of her own power, and not the result of the mini-hakkero. As well, DDC shows us that she can still utilize illusion laser and magic missiles without her hand furnace, as well as utilize fairly powerful and complex spells such as Magic Absorber. Really, the only thing we can even prove that she uses the mini-hakkero for is the Master Spark, which makes sense as it's a massively powerful spell, especially for a human. But, to say that Marisa is defined entirely by that one spell is not doing her enough credit, and it's worth noting that her only confirmed route (Marisa B, UFO) didn't even have Master Spark in its repertoire, meaning that she likely didn't even need it to resolve that incident.

Really hardly. There are a few holdovers and far more than a few whatever throwaway elements because, unsurprisingly, they're nearly two separate series.

I think your only solid argument is that in DDC she doesn't use it (necessarily). Otherwise, I was fairly certain she used it for more than her spark, as a component in most of her magic. Which explains why like Reimu's gohei it was turned into a living tool rather than something like, say, her broom. She uses it a lot in her magic.

If you want to bring in PC98 though Marisa is presumably not living with her parents, which means she's already relying on the mini-hakkero that Rinnosuke gave her.

That seems unlikely to me. If she were to use it as often as you claim that she does, she'd have no need for alternative sources of magical power. However, as it is, there are clear canonical sources which state that she does, in fact, have other sources from which she draws magical power. For instance, she often creates brews with the mushrooms that she collects from the forest to supplement and enhance her magical abilities. This sort of practice would be pointless if all of her magic stemmed from the Mini-Hakkero.
And that, of course, is not mentioning the various brews that she's seen utilizing her in various attacks.
I will not deny that Marisa uses the Mini-Hakkero a lot. She obviously would, as it's easily the most powerful tool that she has to her disposal. However, that doesn't make it her only option for casting magic, and DDC shows that she certainly doesn't need it to resolve incidents. In fact, we have seen her kill youkai and perform some impressive magic without whipping it out.
And of course her broom wouldn't get possessed, she doesn't actually use it for anything. canonically, she can fly just fine without it, which implies that it's mostly just there for show.

She seems like a traditional witch in this regard so I've never been sure about how much her own strength accounts for anything. Along with research she trains a great deal, but the core of her work (if side material and especially GoM are anything to go by) is in research of spells.

So at the end of the day I've never been sure how I'm supposed to measure Marisa. I always assume she's fairly weak without anything else, be it her hakkero or her ingredients, but we also know that unlike Reimu she trains often and she DOES possess magical power (for instance, at least enough to fly). I don't think it's ever been explained how her lasers work. They're not spells so I'm not sure.

Magic is never fully explained in Touhou, so it would be hard to give exact details. Though, if I had to guess, Marisa's extra effort is likely due to human having naturally lower "magic" reserves than youkai. Though, that said, we do see traditional magic in certain types of youkai, specifically youkai magicians. Alice, for example, is seen performing rituals in a few canon instances, while Patchouli explicitly uses incantations to cast spells. They probably have to put less effort in due to youkai magicians naturally possessing high magic, but they still seem to follow certain steps. I think it's important to note, though, that not everything supernatural seems to be "magic". It seems that many youkai abilities, for example, just stem from spiritual power and the applications of it, rather than structured magic. It seems that the main difference between magic and youkai "spiritual power" is that magic appears to have more rules.
