Each game has progressively been getting worse and its why Zun has been attempting dumb gimmicks for each newer game and they are all really hit or miss. Either way the 2hu glory days are gone with PCB being the best game in the entire series still.

I think the opposite with regards to an ending. I think a definitive "End" to Touhou's world would be extremely unfitting. There isn't even really a huge overarching story, just a bunch of mini-arcs.

If it hasn't happened already, surely ZUN will get (even more) drunk eventually, leaving him unable to do anything worthy anymore. And Touhou will fade away slowly, but good new fanarts will still be created for many many years.

I wouldn't want an "ending" so much as just another very polished game like Imperishable Night: Something that features a lot of old characters in addition to many new ones, plenty of spell cards and bonus features, and a lot of good setting and character building.
