Sun school first. The content in that part is exactly same apart from whether you choose to fuck one or both girls, so depends on whether you like 姉妹丼 or not. Only difference is H-scenes and few CG. There's no separate Mitsu route and I think completing either Hikaru or sisters ending is enough as far as flags are concerned.

Moon school:
Ikoi > Hanene > Sora (not really a spoiler since it's revealed on the game's website and early at sun school part but I went in blind) > True
Ikoi's route can be skipped if you want like one of the sun school routes. It's pretty short, nothing really special and a number of its events are also in Hanene route in another form if you only care about the main plot. The order of other routes apart from Ikoi in this part is forced.

You only say that because you haven't tried shopping for a PC in Japan. 95% of Japanese people use laptops for obvious reasons, and even today almost all new Japanese laptops have 1366x768 displays. 1080p panels are uncommon and typically only available on very expensive high-end models and imports.

I don't know how it ended up like this, but unfortunately it makes total sense that most eroge still top out at 720p.

Really like the idea of Baldr Bringer, 11 heroines designed by 11 different artists is quite original. But if GIGA wants to even come close to Sky they need the MC full voice again, not the partial shit they did with Heart. And who is going to design the MC?

Kinda funny to see this; I just started the first one today after only reading 4 VNs to completion and the first hour or so of a couple others. From the beginning to the first H scene I've already found half as many new kanji as I found in the entirety of another VN. Outside of the high amount of new vocab it doesn't seem that bad so far though. Don't see it as something I could tackle as my first or second VN though, yeah. Pretty cool to finally be reading it though considering it was one of the VNs I wanted to read before I started learning the language.

Interesting, perhaps I've spoken too soon.

Still something I was able to google and kinda figure out, but seeing that is still enough that if I saw it while reading, it'd stop me dead in my tracks while I google what it is. Seeing that makes me wonder if there's a bunch of references to old writers and stuff in the first game that have gone / will go right over my head.

I suppose there's no easy way for me to tell if something references old writers/stories unless I happen to know about the story, the characters directly mention the book/writer, or I happen the google the quote and see it's from some famous author or story. Though I suppose that's the nature of references and literary allusions in general though, rather than specifically a language difficulty thing.

I guess in this case it's more a matter of "if you see some quote like that, will you be able to google it and read (in Japanese) about the source of the quote"

I find all the romance and the lack of serious drama enjoyable as long as I'm not reading it all day. Trying it read it on the same pace like a typical VN will burn me out quickly, but reading it as a side dish after doing something else, like after reading a more serious VN makes all the comfortable slice-of-life and romance scenes feels better to experience, like there's always this VN to fall back to after a tiring day. It's not like there are important plot points, grand story, or any complex stuff that I have to remember anyway, so might as well take it easy and read on the pace that I feel comfortable to.

>> No.17537150

>>17537085

Language complexity is a thing for everyone anyway. It doesn't matter if you are native or not, there's always gonna be "easy" and "hard" text.
When you start out, you simply want to start with what's generally considered "easy text". Meaning relatively common words, short simple sentences and so on. Yuri is often recommended, because early on voice acting is usually considered very valuable, which still having usually "easy text".

But hey, could be. Takes place 10 years in the future with a certain other loli (now less loli) being the single heroine. Or maybe she comes back as a main-heroine in the next game with a different protag. (or is that too ntr for otaku?) Many choices.

Houkago Shippo Days review

For those who don't know what this is, it's a short all-ages moege with 2 heroines by August set in the same school as Daitoshokan. Basically an original standalone game with a few references to and cameos by Daitoshokan characters.

What stands out about this game is how short and complete it is. They basically condensed an entire standard moege, from introducing the characters and setting and backstories, to general slice of life and light drama, to romance and confession and going out, to conclusion and living happily ever after, into a couple hours. Some might say this weakens the impact it has since there is less time to get to know and love the heroines and get invested in the conflicts and relationships, and they would be right, but on the other hand, a common complaint about VNs is how much "filler" they have, how they tend to be excessively long when the story could easily be told in a much shorter timeframe. This VN is exactly that, a condensed moege with all of August's standard amazing production values and presentation, but much shorter than pretty much anything else like it. If you're okay with the lack of H-scenes, I'd say it's definitely worth a read.

Yeah it's fine, you're obviously expected to have read Daitoshokan first and you'll miss a few references but you can just read Daitoshokan afterwards and get them then, there's no spoilers or anything.

>>17539940
It's more like 3 hours, and there's only 2 heroines. But I don't think it was ever supposed to replace full-length VNs, it's more just a bonus story rather than a new business model.

LOL. No, that's not remotely accurate.

Strictly speaking, they aren't having sex with anyone, since the scenes are all made-up scenarios in ero-manga that the protagonist of Prismatic Princess is selling to raise funds for the idol group. But even in those scenarios it's still the protagonists of their games.

That said, I have no idea what people find of Ushio myself, so at least in that regard I can't fault Marmalade. To be perfectly honest, I find her similarly weak. She is just a glorified "look how cute her failing to be like an onee-chan is". And that just wasn't for me.

Finished Hotaru's route in Amatsutsumi.

I liked the ending a lot but it took way to long to get there.

Everything after the first meeting with the original Hotaru up to the ending twist felt like it was dragging out the route for the sake of it. Ichaicha can be cute but it needs to be punctuated with variety which this route spent a long time without, and when the characters spent a whole day visiting places in town just to "revisit their memories" it was boring as shit. I also expected the original Hotaru to appear much more than she did but I guess I have to do the other choice to get that.

Unfortunately I'm disappointed with Hotaru's route. What started off as a strong route just lost its momentum entirely after the awesome original Hotaru scene and only regained its feet at the very end. Just another example of VN writers needing to cut the bullshit and write more concisely to deliver a stronger story, but nips love their artificially drawn out scripts so of course they loved this.

So after 3 months of Hitofuta the stage is set and it's actually established what it's about. Kinda. Still, this was probably the meanest stuff this girl did so far. "Playing for 4 hours" is not very nice. At least the other ones died fairly fast..?
Yeah, that's what the VN is about, more or less. A normal girl transferring into a new school, making new friends.. and at some point starting to act weird and kill them. Your protagonist, all right. But it obviously can't be all there is to it, and there sure isn't. This is where another girl comes into place, trying to stop and "rehabilitate" her. In part to save that girl's sister.

I have a feeling this will be getting veeery ugly. This is literally some "everyone is kinda insane" setting, without devolving into utter nonsense. I wouldn't even mind if the protag seat would completely change to the one at least somewhat sane girl, because her position is so nice. You know it's great if not even someone who's supposed to be your ally of sorts is actually really helping you that much and more about the "fun" involved. Regardless of if that kills someone.

Anyway, for a free little VN this actually shapes up to be interesting enough. If you like your nutjob girls with super powers along the lines of "able to recognize lies" and whatnot else.

Finished Nana route in 迷える2人とセカイのすべて. Was originally gunning for Suzuran because her type's right up my alley but dropped her and switched teams, for reasons I'll get into later.

So the first two arcs - probably like 2/3rds of the game - were real enjoyable. Fun cast with good chemistry, good pacing, decent music. Probably the best way to describe it would be that it had great editing. Someone clearly went over this and snipped bits here and there and tightened up some corners and cut out some useless bullshit and threw in some lines that tied things better together. Also the timing on OST changes and sprite changes was spot on. Little things like that tell me time and effort (and most likely a big budget) went into this thing. As such I caught myself enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would, I initially expected overblown chuuni bullshit with overdesigned cute girls but instead I just got solid urban fantasy with overdesigned cute girls. There was of course a bunch of "why didn't they just ride the eagles into Mordor" fridge logic things but most of them got smoothed over with a line or two of explanation and for the ones that didn't, I had enough good will towards the game to sweep them under the rug. Plus the token male friend got to be cool a decent few times. All in all, good times.

If there's one this I gotta complain about it's that I think Vier was way better in general as everybody's daughteru-type loli, the cast dynamics worked pretty well that way and she was also friggin' adorable. They spent a long time pushing the whole "this is your daughter now" angle and then bam, they age her up real quickly and go "whoa check out those tiddies, I bet you wanna fuck your daughter now, eh?" way too quickly. Or maybe I'm just too vanilla for that kinda shit.

Then the third arc comes around and just plain shits the bed. Maybe it's because the first two had end goals the cast was taking steps towards, while the third had an end goal that got reached relatively quickly. But since this was technically supposed to be the ichaicha girl time part of an eroge, they needed to drag it out longer (ignoring the whole time-sensitive major plot thing) with assorted vaguely disconnected bullshittery. Most of the conflicts in that part felt annoying, forced, and random. Nana's was tolerable, some good parts and some questionably what the fuck is this parts, and an unsatisfying ending with a giant LOL U FUCKED UP stinger that basically said "play the true route, dickweed". Okay, fine. A bit of a letdown but I'm still coming away from it with a mostly positive impression. Nana herself was great but the way they handled some things in her route left a bad taste in my mouth. Really the whole thing serves as a reminder that endings are important to your overall impression of a work, that last bit can really make or break all the rest of it. I might go back in and take a stab at Nayuta's because I liked her character but this time around I'm nowhere near as willing to put up with dumbfuckery. I doubt I'll do the true route because a) Vier is for hug, not fug and b) the game is long as hell and I'm already kinda burned out.

Oh and I guess it's worth mentioning this is the first time I've ever not hated Aoyama Yukari's voice. HOWEVER

And then there was Suzuran, who techically I did first. Suzuran's route was the most mind-bogglingly awful thing I've read in quite some time, to the point where I had to stop, go back, and try another girl to see if they were all this terrible because it was retroactively making me dislike the game because of it. Straight up bafflingly terrible. It can't be that the writers hated her because her arc and character were pretty solid and consistent up till this point. Maybe even good. And she gets this godawful Frankenstein monstrosity of a route of stiched-together bullshit asspull nonsense that raises more and more questions the more I try to think about it. The most bizarre part of it all is that the rules of the place they're in change drastically (for the better) in Nana's route. If the culprit is multiple writers then they clearly had both carte blanche to do whatever, and were under no obligations to ever talk to one another about what they were doing. Also they got the janitor to write it and he'd been locked in the supply closet with ammonia fumes for too long. Holy fuck. Nothing made any goddamn sense, and on top of that they kind of forgot that you're supposed to be a couple at this point also? So no decent ichaicha as compensation either.

Christ. I keep trying to remember the good points of the whole vn but then this route's utter bugfuck insanity worms its way into my head instead. The proverbial dog turd in an otherwise delicious sandwich: yeah the sandwich is great but it's pretty fucking hard to ignore the turd in it. And that's the worst part, I think, and also why I'm so butthurt I'm writing this novel-sized review. It's that even in that clusterfuck there were still good parts, moments of fun and joy, but only just enough to remind me of what the rest of it was like instead of the cocktwaddle I'm being served.

God damn. That route almost ruined the whole thing for me. If anyone else reads this, which isn't necessarily a bad idea since it's still a pretty solid urban fantasy, stay the fuck away from Suzuran. I know she's a cutie but it's not worth it.

There are. Also, Noratoto is quite heavy on comedy and that's not a good idea.

It doesn't really matter too much, but if someone is actually asking for a really good work to start out with, something along the lines of Hanahira or Tsui Yuri are just great, as they are very easy, short and fully voiced (all characters). If you don't just want the SoL of Hanahira, Tsui Yuri has some yandere stuff as well and is actually good if you ask me.

Sakusaki route 1: Really shitty. Worst girl out of the way I suppose. Still, a whole lot of nothing in this. So instead of the heroine, have some Miu line from the route.

I could probably write a rant about why this was so shitty, but I'll spare you. I expected it to be the weakest route, so as long as it gets better now, whatever. But god was it retarded. If it had been at least only boring... but nope, they had to make it retarded on top of it.

How are eroge games so large?
I mean sorry if the answer is obvious or something like they don't use compression.
However anyway I look at it.
Music loops and probably wouldn't be longer than 3 hours if put together unlooped. Which would be about 300mbs.
Most have like what 30cgs and a bunch of sprites. Say 80 pictures. Lets be generous and say thats 500MB.
Writing is about a few mbs.
So what's left?

I just don't see how these VNs go for a 3GBs or more. Some even go for 5GBs.
I mean I get if it's high resolution or if it has special effects but most medium sized VNs fall under 3GBs.
Am I just calculating the image or sound files size wrong?

Usually images are saved without using anything special to abuse the fact that a lot of them are variations of others. As such a normal eroge has easily 500 images. (all the sprites, backgrounds and CG + variations)

Add to that low compression voices. Also they have 4gb space on the dvd. Why overcompress voices?

So the game I'm playing right now has 500mb backgrounds, 1gb event cg, 300mb sprites. Then you have all the videos (ops+eds) at 700mb, a ~1.4gb voices (usually 20-30 hours in full price games) and a good 300mb for music, sfx and whatnot. Seems to fit quite well.

Played through Kaseki no Uta. I vaguely remember seeing a cool looking MAD of it years ago in some random collection I downloaded, so when the game popped up while randomly shuffling through EGS and the premise seemed interesting enough, plus there were a handful of 埋もれている名作 tags I decided to give it a shot.

Pretty lukewarm last impressions. Lots of the game relies on plot convenient science bullshit, much of which is delivered as infodumps at the end of the true route and I've already played my share of both time loop and virtual reality games so that type of stuff doesn't really manage to make a lasting impact either. The doll training simulation parts in particular stand out like a sore thumb and their sub-plots don't really tie that well into the main story as only the interactions with the system itself are important. The "dolls aren't actually made to be sex toys" twist also kind of falls flat due to its obviousness but also due to the simulation characters being left away from the main plot. I felt that development time were maybe better directed more into fleshing out the real world itself, additional foreshadowing or something else. If I had to compare those parts to something vaguely similar I'd think of something like C's Ware Mikan's subplots, but worse and much more detached.

I decided to play pretty much without a walkthrough because I wanted to try out solving a mystery game by myself for once, and probably because I haven't learned from other eroge and I'm mad. Luckily it's only somewhat difficult and not something that requires moonman logic: you can make do by taking notes and the difficulty amounts to savescumming "which arbitrary room hands me a flag" vs. "which another arbitrary room ends the current day phase", plus it has a nifty system keeping track of flags and I must say I got some satisfaction when the last flag fucking finally clicked, but I couldn't really recommend the experience. I was first worried this game was going through the way of Mikan with very limited save slots considering the amount of decisions, but the game opens up new 10 slots after you've used the first 10 and so on.

General tone and characters wise the game is mostly "dark mystery rapey mansion with mean owners" and while I haven't played those type of games that much myself I'm presuming this game isn't making any great strides in that field either. While there's plenty of H-scenes, many of them are extremely short (some even only a few lines long) to the point I was actually surprised they went out of their way to draw CG for them, especially since the game is most definitely a plotge first. Overall maybe something you could appreciate more if you started playing eroge much earlier and hadn't already seen similar ideas in many other newer games already, but I'm thoroughly a spoiled modern eroge scrub and at least for me the game didn't manage to do much.

Also the game doesn't loop its BGM for some reason (though the music does start again if reloading a save), not sure if only a bug on my end. Which was kind of a shame because there were a handful of tracks I liked.

At any point did I say I hate this VN? No, I've never played it. There's nothing wrong being a fan.
I hate the over top fanbases, where any deviation is considered treason. Normal fanbases you can expect differences of opinion, somebody can come up and call it shit or not like it and you respect that, sure you might feel a bit offended but it's nothing to cry over.
However for things that become immensely popular, any type of negative view is considered attacking the game itself. It essentially becomes giant cesspool where where everybody loves X and must attack all neutral and negative opitnions of X.
It's absolutely nauseating just thinking about it.
I avoid franchises like this so I don't end up like these people. Or if I do try I do end up liking them, but avoid the rabid fanbase in general.

The fact you >>17551867 bothered typing all that up, makes me question this person's sanity. I mean seriously this is something I'd expect somebody to say when they 'really' hurt somebody and you'd have a carefully worded response.
Normally I'd say this is a well written insult, but this isn't the type of post you'd expect with somebody not wanting to play a fucking game. Rather this kind of mindset is really scary to say the least and says a lot about the individual in question.

Just finished Shiho's first ending in Natsukuru and this game is amazing. I don't know why alot prefer Harukuru but the pacing, jokes, characters are much better in Natsukuru for me. This one also gives me a similar feel to Looseboy's Sharin no Kuni that I wanted so much.

The pacing is better but the climax isn't nearly as satisfying. After getting THAT conclusion in Harukuru you have certain expectations and imo Natsukuru doesn't deliver on them. Also it's kind of like reading the same story in a different shell and whatever you experience first feels more special. That said I still like it a lot.

During the day, these beautiful girls lead a shy life of cookies and tea, but during the night, they become hunters donned in ninja apparel. It just so happens that Kiri is descendant from ninja royalty, and Mary, well, she is a ghost. It seems that this world is not so normal upon a closer look. In this world, Dark Beings inhabit the night and threaten the life and safety of those who comes close to their wrath.
>On a peculiarly stormy night, the girls offer room and food to a mysterious little girl stranded in front of the café. As if this was not enough, the night unfolds more mysterious as the Headless Horseman strolls into town. While the 3 girls grow closer on each passing day, it seems that the mysterious little girl, Lily, brings more than just questions and confusion with her to the little café.

The typical 9.99 worries me though. That's another 5 hour game. I'm not really into those. If they'd at least do 10-15 hour games, like the JP mid-price games, I'd be much more happy with these "western aimed VNs". That'd be a pretty nice length.

Finished my second route of Hatsukoi. I must say it pleasantly surprised me. I was a little discouraged when I got a little taste of where they were going with the story, but I must say it turned out to be better than I anticipated. Where this game truly shines is its characters. I really like every character in the main group, and I really enjoy the dynamic between them. Additionally, even though it might look a little dated, I feel the art in this game possesses a sort of charm to it that isn't present in Nonohara Miki's more recent works (Tanuki Soft). That isn't to say the art in those works are bad. I actually think they're very well done, but there's just something about the art in Hatsukoi that I really like.

Now I'm faced with a really tough decision. For the remaining routes I have a heroine that I know virtually nothing about (she appears once or twice in the common route and zero times in the routes I've played so far), a heroine that is decent, and a heroine that I really really like. I know it'd be optimal for me to save the best for last, but I'm not sure if I can wait any more. Hopefully I can still work up the motivation to do the other girls' routes after I do my favorite heroine's.

Lies. It's mostly serious relationship drama and covers most of the main part of the game(after the car crash). It's definitely better than the anime since it has more scenes, more details on the scenes themselves, better characterization (Takayuki's mindset is much more understandable there and he has his own moments, like when he gets seriously mad at Ayu when she calls Haruka's old story book a junk, but won't make him more bearable if you hate hetare protagonist in the first place, he will only get better on the after story after the big drama is settled down), and much more content like side character's routes, afterstory to the 3 main heroine's routes (Haruka, Mitsuki, Akane), and the IF scenario where the car crash never happened or potentially where Takayuki rejects Haruka's confession early in the game. It's definitely an improvement to the anime.

Is it worth reading though? It depends if you can tolerate seeing RUGP errors every 30 minutes or so and saving often just in case of error (especially when you're using skip fuction, it will crash often when skipping). If you can endure that, yes, I recommend reading it if you like realistic relationship drama with no magic bullshit whatsoever and able to tolerate the MC's indecisiveness for hours.

yeah Kazusa was probably the second most fucked up heroine in the entire game, after Chiaki of course. though I can't really agree about Haruki and Setsuna being really nice people. Tbh, I can forgive a lot of Haruki's actions because I can imagine anyone else spilling their spaghetti when their flanked by two hotties like Setsuna and Kazusa, but i still think the dude is pretty fucked. just look at how he acted in Chiaki's route or Kazusa normal. though you could chalk that up to depression or because of his circumstances which were all caused by Kazusa so whatever.

Setsuna is pretty weird, it's hard to have an opinion on her since i can't really tell what she was ever thinking. I like how they pretty much show that she's such a good actor that even Chiaki can't understand her, i found that whole part of chiaki's route pretty hilarious.
