Project was handled terribly because whatshisname-UTAU-guy and the trumpet-sounding-voicer-girl are literally kids and had no idea wtf they were doing, and the fact that they almost single-handedly ruined the vocaloid community's relationship with PFX still rubs me the wrong way, and for that reason I think I'll always hate Ruby. People will tell you to git gud but the truth is that you're not alone, it's pretty hard. I'm about in the same boat as you. If you want to have fun with it you almost have to build your own arcade controller. I hate having to settle for playing on Hard after all this time but that's just how it is.

I've never made anything like this or wired before, so I'm a bit weary (though I'd like to try). What are the Pros/Cons of having/not having a touch slider? Is the labor for that worth it?

I never made anything prior to this either and it came out okay. You're literally gluing/nailing/screwing a bunch of side boards together and then placing something on top and bottom

The slider is great fun to play, the game was designed for it and it's more intuitive to use than buttons where you have to get used to remember which button is which direction. Additionally it's a lot easier to use the slider when holding notes than hitting buttons for sliders when holding notes, depending on if you use full size buttons for the main buttons.

The downside is that the slider is kind of difficult to make, you need to be able to solder and program an arduino and even then there's an issue with the wires interfering with each other that I haven't been able to solve yet. The reading of signals isn't perfect either, but it's still better than when I used buttons.

There's no single guide for it, I mainly used several guides and filled in the gap myself. In particular for the slider all I had to go on was some code on how to build a capacitive touch sensor, once I had that I built the code myself
