I know it's 宜しい + だろう but　I'm a bit confused what the かろう really adds. Isn't がいい kind of like a command "You should..."? Does がよろしい mean the same thing? How does it change with the かろう at the end in meaning? "You probably should"?

I've been thinking about the best way to use input, and one thing is unclear for me. Obviously, graded readers, and children's tales are easier to read than even manga for a beginner. So I've been thinking, if someone has read a grammar guide already, then the best first step might be not to dive into a certain manga, but to use easier material to ease into reading, and to really cement the essentials (both grammar and vocab) into one's brain, so that in later content, they can focus on the particulars of "harder grammar" that they might encounter.

So basically, I think that at the start, quantity > "quality"; that reading 100 sentences of a children's book/graded reader is better than spending the same amount of time picking apart a smaller number of textual content in a manga or vn. Do you guys agree?

Well children's books are made for children and they're likely not gonna cover much more than you've already encountered in Tae Kim or whatever. Stuff a level or two above your level will teach you more in less time while also "cementing the essentials". Human memory does not work that way. The raw amount of time you expose yourself to something does not matter. Even if you recite the same chant all day for five days it will be nowhere near as effective as reciting it twice at once, on day per week, for a month.

There is no belief anywhere that drilling things for a small number of days makes them stick. If you did that and think it worked, you certainly exposed yourself to what you drilled in the wild on a regular basis after that, or you have some kind of special brain damage that interferes with the normal memory consolidation process, all of which make it too easy to gain confabulated memories.

The "one month" number is not the span of time that you spend doing an hour of flash cards every day. That number of the span of time after which you stop forgetting them quickly if you've been using spaced repetition.

I did some Tae Kim lessons after learning kana, but it was not for a month and yes after 3 years of barely touching japanese (of course I'd read kana if I saw it in a japanese restaurant or something in my day to day life) I still retained kana. I am doubtful that I have any brain damage interfering with my memorization skills, so I can safely say that I did memorize kana, and that I do know kana.

I never made flashcards, and I understand your point of repetition. However, I was able to retain kana without repetition for over 3 years. I'm not being some internet tough guy on an anonymous message board, and maybe I should have added that I did do a few Tae Kim lessons before dropping Japanese to avoid this entire argument.

Listening is just like reading, except easier because you already know how to listen and can focus on vocab and grammar right away without having to learn kanji.

Actually comprehending anything that is a bit more complex takes me a similar amount of time as reading the same sentence written down would. So I have to either pause after the sentences, or be really confused (which doesn't seem conducive to learning). I don't think it's faster than reading.

I think the effectiveness depends on the kind of fonts used. I tried to include a lot of fonts that are harder to read, like caligraphy and such, and also some really weird fonts. I'm hoping it'll force you to read learn to recognize the general shape and stroke order of the kanji in many different forms, so as to prepare you for when you encounter really strange fonts in the real world, like on covers of LNs and manga for instance.

It might not be beneficial at all, and end up being a waste of time, but I wouldn't regret trying.

Having trouble understanding 与えてなるものか. I'm assuming ものか is just like someone showing indignation or emphasizing they don't agree with it, but I can't really fit the なる for some reason. The context is the person before was saying they don't want a certain party to receive more money even if it means their own pay being lower for it, and then the second person says the sentence I posted here, basically agreeing or repeating the same thing with different words to show understanding.

In my opinion, combined daily revision with daily reading is superior. Why? Because your idea of "reading a lot" is not objective, whereas Anki is. You either do your reps or you don't, whereas anyone can fuck around for a while reading without realising just how little or for how long they were really reading for.
The basis of your revision should be using Anki, at least until you reach a point reading/listening where you are reading a good 90% of the time without having to stop and look up words.

It's also worth noting that if it takes someone ages to review words in Anki, chances are they are also a slow as fuck reader. A good rate for recognition format vocab reviews in Anki is roughly 100 cards every 10 minutes or 6 seconds a card on average, when the bulk of reviews are learning cards. It is obviously faster for mature cards.

This is my opinion, based on spending a fair while just "reading a lot" then deciding to swallow my pride and start using Anki for vocab reviews on a daily basis alongside reading. The former was good but I spent far too much time looking up words. Now the words I look up are mined and while it still seems like I'm constantly looking up words, when I check the list of mined, logged words, I can see that I'm mining less and less while reading more and more.
I can also pick up a volume of manga read two months ago and basically not have to look up any words. This is not something not capable of being done prior to going back to Anki.

So I've started mining and now have two thousand unseen cards. I think I should stop mining and catch up.
