I'd take pictures of my apartment, cats in windows, my meals, beautiful sights, random things in the night. I've never seen the need to take 10000 photos a day, when you'll never look at them all ever again. Take what you want and enjoy Japan.

If you go somewhere like Kobe there is a lot of 80s buildings around due to rebuilding from the quake in that area. Looks kinda ugly.

I was actually passing through the area, entirely unaware it was near the nuclear station. I was taking the Jouban Line up the east coast - the line stopped at Tatsuta and you had to take a JR arranged shuttle bus to get to Minami-Souma, where the line resumed all the way to Sendai. I decided to walk to Tomioka and take the bus from there, past the sign that says "only vehicles allowed for the next 6km", and no one stopped me - once police pulled up and asked for my visa, but that was all, and they didn't seem to mind me being there. I never did go into Ookuma, which would probably have been rather more dangerous - the radiation levels I was walking through were probably 2 microSv/h, for reference.

It was also quite interesting - one of the policemen was from the Fukui police, and apparently he said that as this region needed policing they had sent for manpower from all around Japan.

There are barely any locals, the only people there are workers. I think some of the regions have been fully opened up to public already, but its not likely many of the people that were evacuated will return. Sometimes I almost felt like walking through a ghost town.

See pic related - detox work for the town of Tomioka has long been completed, and I think Namie also, but I'm pretty sure Ookuma will still be closed off to pedestrians.

Lots of reasons.

The big one for me is the history. A lot of traditions and things are done in Kyoto that are forgotten in the bigger cities. The block I live on does hi no youji with wooden blocks older than anyone remembers. They say they are from the edo period but I kind of doubt they go that far back. Everywhere you look there is some building hundreds of years ago. You can't go a block or two without finding something woth history to it.

A lot of places have no photos signs up no matter what country you are in, but they hardly enforce it unless you are doing something disruptive.

Museums and the like are more likely to enforce because they consider people posting photos of their exhibits online to be competition.
And of course onsens ban photography because people are fucking bathing.

But you would have to supply your own nekkid japanese chicks willing to be photographed.
