Because 95% of everything is awful. LNs are no different, they're just manga in text form. Also, it's really only the popular pandering moneymakers that get translated or animated. Plenty of good stuff get passed up because they're harder to get into.

Nah. LNs aren't the type of thing to be ghostwritten.

You get contests and recruited materials from online WN websites that perform really well and are published.

WNs differ from their LN counterpart due to the fact there is some changes to the story or the story gets a massive rehaul.

You also got some anomaly LNs. Goblin Slayer started out as blogposts on fc2 using ASCII and got turned into a Light Novel or Maoyu which was posted on 2ch in play format then converted into a book..

The excuse mods use is because they got anime.

LNs are /a/ due to the fact a lot of them (Slayers) and other that are mentioned have been made into anime.

Though another defense they can use is that we are discussing Japanese literature and Light Novels as a whole rather than a specific one.

They're shitty fantasies written by otaku who don't even like anime enough to learn to draw.

>>17101210
All the people saying "this" really aren't much for critical thought are they? VNs have standards that are even lower but even the best LN has yet to touch the heights of a good VN. It's not about "publication", it's about the kind of people drawn to the format.

"I want to tell a niche story through an appropriate medium as an end in itself, I well self publish this at my own expense as a doujin if needed because I'm passionate about my work" -VN Author

"I have an autistic fantasy in my head marginally different than the autistic fantasies that inspired it but can't draw so I'll write a shitty book as disposable entertainment for vacuous otaku with no taste and hope it gets made into an anime, also I want easy money" -LN Author

Two completely different breeds really. LN Authors really are the lowest of the low.

It's not a terrible medium, because there's plenty of good light novels. It doesn't matter how shit the average light novel is because you can just choose to only read the good ones and ignore the shit ones.

Not that anon and don't agree with the concept of "real literature", but do think LNs will never reach the same tier as academic writing. As mentioned elsewhere in the thread, there are economic reasons to support this (lower cost to produce, higher sales).

I don't say that to discourage reading LNs, but ignoring their problems won't make us better consumers/readers.

I really like mgrp, but the deaths in them do seem a bit forced. deaths of main characters and all is fine, but when 90% of the people die in every book it becomes a bit silly. kind of like game of thrones, at a certain point it feels like you're just killing people for the sake of making your book about people dying and trying to cater to that shock value.

This was my biggest problem about JOKERS since Shufflin kills 9 characters, 4 of them in the same place, under the same circumstances (Quake, Tempest, Utakatta and Kafuria), one of them with no build-up or foreshadowing at all (Umbrain) and one of them just so she can't appear in later books (Filuru)
