I really appreciate the work Custom has done to let us actually see the story, but always wondered why dialogue like the Witch wasn't translated. Is it hidden somewhere in the code?

My laptop spontaneously shut down and now random files in my save directory have been zeroed out. It wasn't even saving when my laptop shut off. Please send help.

Should I just race for the bottom floor boss for medals/chests and only stop for items that are easy to tell from their sprites?

2b) What should I be hoarding to bless?


4a) Furniture is basically getting something really rare and turning it into dragon scale then rest is just cosmetic, right? my home is currently rank 1 but ugly as fuck because I got there using crap I found irregardless of quality / material ranks.
4b) When I remove some furiture I get the negative purple text telling me my home has been downgraded from rank 1-> rank 1. Does this mean I still need to keep putting down furniture until I get no more messages adding/removing things to get max benefits?
4c) Same thing with museums? start clearing out lower quality cards and figures in favor of unqiue named monsters?

5) Best ways to make gold? only thing I remember is oracle scrolls and holding money for rich person events that give you a % increase and make it compound.


6a) Attribute potential is maintained primarily by blessed potions of potential / picnic baskets, skills from plat coin training potential at a skill trainer, and spells by... waiting or what?
6b) actually gaining attributes is accomplished by using abilities with the relevant icons (cheer for charisma, Houzana for constitution, etc) and eating food that trains them (herb in herb)?


7) What are the symbols that flash above me and my pets heads? they look like a heart beat symbol among other things

8) Quest boards and dungeon diving and reseting with Opatos statues for coins + rare loot makes up most of the game power grinding wise?
8a) Any OP skills? I hear people like martial artists, I've been fucking around with whatever had good dice rolls that dropped currently without any goal, as well as mixing in spell casting (magic dart/Identify only), etc.


9) What are some good spells to use? Currently only use Healing Touch / Rain, Identify, Return, Resurrection, Teleport, and 4-d pocket. Not using the buffs because the duration is shit (I'm assuming this gets better with spell level?).

15) What's the hard on for herbs? do you eat them raw or use the pot of fusion "herb in"? does the base food you stick them into matter for stat gains (E.G Fruit pudding vs Grand Parfait)?

16) Rogue bandits are kicking my ass at 73.1k fame. If I lower my fame by failing quests are there any other negatives?

17) Any way to see speed potential so I know when to use speed uppers?

18) There was a process for safely upgrading your house from Small Castle -> Palace, what was it again to avoid save corruption or something retarded I'm forgetting.

Sorry for the walls of text, a lot of the FAQ seems to be out of date and the game is fairly esoteric at times. I'm also playing E+CU.

1) All items should be collected because you can sell it or maybe use it. Also by having it in your inventory certain attributes of an item can become apparent by the sense quality skill. So you should have stuff on you to train sense quality and weight lifting. Both also increase the attributes tied to them.

2) Potions of potential, potions of cure corruption, potions of evolution, scrolls of wonder, scrolls of gain material, small medals, scrolls of gain attribute, scrolls of growth, spellbooks of wish, rods of change creature, and possibly more. Almost everything should be blessed before consumption as the effects can be better.

3) It's almost impossible to not get to rank 1 as long as you just keep filling your property with stuff regardless of quality and what it is. Ditto with the museum. If you need to expand your museum to add more room for statues and cards plop a register in it, such as the one found in pet run shops, and edit the building.

4) Doing a bit of everything is the best way to make gold. Do job board quests, sell junk you find in dungeons and in those job board rewards in pet run shops, create farms and harvest stuff to sell to vendors or to put them in pet run shops. Possibly do cargo running as well. I personally don't do that but it's another way to make gold.

5) Spell potential is regained through sleeping. Food, especially herbs, and raising skills level up attributes. Special actions can help raise skills too so they too can help in raising attributes.

6) symbol indicates you've gained AP. It's a resource you can track on your character sheet and is used to get stuff from the NPC Leold once you've unlocked South Tyris and find him there. The color, yellow or blue, also gives a rough indication whether or not you're gaining a little or a bit of AP. Blue indicates better gain than yellow.

7) Initially yes. Also add Big Daddy farming for the repeatable little sister quest. Literal herb seed farming, skill grinding, small medal farming, AP farming, and possibly more if you really want a super powerful character.

8) Cure of Jua, AOE spells such as magic storm, iceball, etc, silence, element scar, mist of frailness and all the buff spells. Probably use other spells as well but those are probably the main ones I use. The buff spells are great and yes their duration goes up as they level. Most of mine last for hundreds of turns.

9) I carry almost everything I find useful just because. I just tell myself I'm training weight lifting if I get burdened.

10) Progress with the story and when you run into a wall start grinding.

11) Doesn't matter

12) I personally stopped caring about resists gained from corpses because I tend to lose them when I sleep eventually. Might be useful for pets though. Aside from the food page on the wiki, I don't know of any more detailed resource. As for attribute gains, eating herbs, especially herbed in stuff provides vastly superior gains compared to any monster you can eat.

13) Means it's being maintained. Certain equipment have the, "It maintains x attribute." or something like that. Maintained attributes are immune from monster attacks that drain that attribute.

14) Eating herbs on their own is good but using a pot for fusion just enhances their already good attribute raising ability. The best is if you use a Curraria as a base and infuse it with other herbs. Helps level up all your attributes.

15) Fame is used to determine better paying job board quests and the appearance of challenge or panic job board quests. You can lower your fame to reduce the power of those bandits but you may just try to teleport and run off the map before they kill you to escape them all the same.

16) Glasses of Yacatect. Need to kill a very powerful NPC in Lost Irva for it though.

17) Don't know I just aimed for the palace right off the bat.

18) I have all 8 as magic vendors. I don't use a maid. The last maid I had I was convinced wanted to see me killed, humiliated, or broke as she would send shady people over to my house.

19) Hermes blood and void are my must haves. The rest I guess depends on your character. Could pick up the Shield Tonfa, Diablo, and tax box if you want. I use bronze coins to either pay for the training of shopkeepers or I use them on the special meal at the inn. Gold should be invested or given to pets to visit their trainer.

20) Get all trade skills because it can only help you. I craft whenever personally but lucky days are a nice perk when I do it. + skill can help so sure why not but you'll be fine without it.

How does magic device usage compare to magic?

I've been planning to go melee with rods/potions for buffs/debuffs/elemental damage, and just want to know how much effort I need to put in for them to be good.

If you want AP, get the Void Explorer Certificate or whatever it's called. The thing that'll let you go into the Void.

If you're not a claymore or you're a martial artist, get the <Shield Tonfa>. If you or any one of your pets uses heavy swords, get the <Diablo>. If you do not have any equipment that lets you see invisible enemies, get the <Sage's Helm>, but you can just as easily get equipment that has that trait as a favor reward from certain gods.

The number is your actual value of your Charisma (which is an attribute). The "Good/bad" is your attribute POTENTIAL.

The more you level your attributes the lower the potential gets. You raise your POTENTIAL by drinking blessed potions of potential among other things.

What does charisma do for you once you can get all the pets? All the other attributes benefit you in other ways, but is charisma just useless past like 100 or whenever you reach the pet cap.

Managed to get it to work like other anon. That error message is showing that Elona is trying to autofill your server file with info to connect to the server that was shut down. The ソ character should not be there and shows that it's trying to autofill.

What I did after I got that error was just delete the server text file. Created a new one and the only thing in it was one single line:

elochat-proxy.shiroko.yi.org%elona.squares.net%

Then I went into config.txt and turned serverlist to 1. After that I went into the game and went into options, network settings, and said yes to use network.

I couldn't get elochat the program to work but I could see chat ingame. I also don't know how to keep the game from changing the server.txt file every now and then. The only band aid fix I have is to delete the server.txt file and remake a new one with the above entry.

Not that I can tell. I at first thought that maybe items they sell is of a different ratio than others. Like perhaps they sell more scrolls than a magic vendor. Problem is that what vendors sell is in flux and is tied to how much you invest in them now. So I have no idea if there really is any difference. Are there any other games like Elona+? I like the open world and role playing feel it has. The graphics are aesthetically pleasing too. I just wish there was more lore in the game, unless i haven't gotten to it yet.

Cataclysm: DDA is the other open-world roguelike with good roleplaying potential that I'd recommend. The theme and setting are nothing like Elona's, though, but it can be almost as "comfy".

Someone once said Elona with ToME's talent trees would be perfect. It isn't open and there's not much roleplaying, but if you want combat, item generation and skills that are somewhat like Elona's (but better), it might be worth checking. Also the graphics are great.

Rune Factory (especially 3-4) isn't open nor has much roleplaying, but the skill grinding and possibly setting/humor are decidedly reminiscent of Elona.

When playing ADOM, you'l notice that a number of aspects of Elona were lifted straight from it. You could say Elona is loosely based on ADOM. The tower of fire, the ancient pyramid, herb farming, the puppy cave, random dungeons, notation of equipment stats and DV/PV values are all from that game. Noa was probably a fan.

However, in ADOM you have MUCH less freedom, and need to beat difficult dungeons and gather (quest) artifacts while on a timer or so to speak. No building a house, running a shop or playing your banjo. It's permadeath of course, and you can fuck up your run in a lot of ways. There are a number of endings dependent on your actions and character's alignment some of which, the ''ultra endings'' have ridiculous requirements.

It's cool but honestly if you're looking for a comfy game like Elona I wouldn't recommend it

Exile is an excellent pet that will complement your little girl. It can cast multiple spells per turn, and will clear annoying enemies at range when you enter a room. The more pets you have, the more experience and money is shared between them, but it shouldn't be a problem as long as you keep an eye out that one isn't hogging everything. There isn't any specific place where they are guaranteed to show up, so it's all up to chance. Every fighter's guild quest you will probably have the same issue. So just keep doing what you've been doing and eventually you'll have killed enough hounds without even realizing it. If you're lucky you'll get one of those rooms filled to the brim with them sometime

I've been told herbed curaria are the best.

Regarding training cooking beyond 30, if you have a farm, ranch and pick up corpses in dungeons to cook and sell, you'll pass that rather quickly anyhow.

A decent meal cooked from your average monster sells for say 1-5k. Creatures you rubbed at the ranch gain +bonuses that greatly increase the value. Putting some salt, soy sauce etc. on them before killing them adds an even higher bonus (and is worth a chuckle).

If you're farming a lot you'll start getting muskmelons, the higher grade dishes you cook from those vendor for 20-30k and sell for much more in your shop.

Even if you don't have + values on your food, if you have a group of pets they'll be getting hungry faster and more often than your herb supply can feed (until you have whole farms full of herbs). So every harvest I sell the most expensive dishes, and feed the rest to my pets. So I'm usually walking around with a lot of food (some of which ends up on the compost pile), and they get stat-increases almost every meal.

I'm sure higher quality meat/veg/fruit, + value, and the tier of dish all factor into the stat exp gain but no idea about the specifics.

Mutant rider sounds pretty OP since they don't have to worry about speed penalties.
Warmages can activate Magic Equip for almost no loss.

Golems IMO are the best race that doesn't involve specific/restrictive playstyle, like fairies or mutants. High HP reduces the need for hero cheese farming, and their low speed can be remedied early by riding, and permanently patched later on by AP. Their lower starting speed also gives you a slightly better INI rating, though is is minor. Snails also get this minor boon, but then you're stuck as a snail. Golem's innate dim resist also means that you don't need to stack tons of sound resist to become immune to it, like Kai does.

Is it just me or does the statue of Opatos generate very low level dungeons? The map had a range of danger levels 40-120, but after using it most are 1-10 with a few outliers up to ~DL40. Afterwards I used it several times, and got the same low level dungeons every time. Is Opatos-oniichan trying to keep me safe?!

Not really. Although even as a character that doesn't use mounts, I have a lot of problems gaining meter from enemies hitting me too. Especially when my character is faster than the enemy and they just don't hit me enough to combat gauge decay. The changes to Garok's hammer is a pleasant surprise. You can only use this on normal gear(not miracle or higher stuff) to turn them into miracle stuff with the respective enchant in the list. The enchant can be very powerful too in its magnitude. This can set up gear nicely for artifact fusion later on. The order would be to run a material kit on the normal weapon first, then to use garok's hammer, and then to use artifact fusion. Finally, with the additional attack chance
you can manually put on a weapon, some of my pets might now have access to multiple attacks. This helps ease the scarcity problems prior of only a handful of static artifacts having additional attack chance.

Say you have 1999 AP and the cap AP you can collect before turn in is 2000. Say you slay an enemy that gives you 2 AP. Instead of your AP now being 2000 and having that extra 1 AP go nowhere and be wasted, that one AP subtracts from the grand total of AP you've collected over the lifetime of our character. That's how it works and no you can't go to 2000 AP and keep killing enemies to reduce your lifetime total down to 0. Doesn't work. Elona CU 1.67 is meant to be used with Elona+ 1.67. It might work for 1.68 but then again 1.68 might introduce something that causes problems for CU. You take your save file and risks into your own hands when running versions that don't match but then again you can always make a backup of your save if things don't go well. Having said that, you can always update to 1.68 and then just wait for the CU version of that to come out.

Most likely incurring spell casting penalties. If your equip weight is heavier than light, usually by equipping heavy armor, then your cast chance goes down. If you use riding and mount a creature your spell casting chance goes down as well.

Don't take that based off such a small group. The rate is 1/20 so you'll be getting one tail per farm on average roughly. There's also a possibility that anatomy and luck could play a factor but I'd say it's highly unlikely.

In one of the patches SP costs for certain special actions were changed and made random. For instance shadow step costs a lot more than it did in the past. They kind of look like a red tinted version of a piece of furniture called variety of tools. They're used to maximize the damage dice of a weapon according to its material. For instance, if you create a lightsaber its damage dice is normally 2d5 despite it being made of ether which is a material known for its damage potential. Last I read they patch notes say you can purchase them however I have not seen them for sale on any of my vendors yet. The ones I have gotten were through finds in random dungeons. As for the pet thing, I think I may have encountered that as well. Might be a bug. I noticed that when I talk to the informer afterwards my pet will sometimes stop spending her gold for training. Had to exit town and reenter to get her to spend again. Other times it was just me finding out that the amount of gold my pet had wasn't enough and using evochat to give her more gold.

Huh, weird. I'd tried exiting entering, taking her on quests, summoning unsummoning, letting her die and none worked. But Evochat did. Next time I entered a town she used their service like 10 times in a row.

Did some tests with my special actions and kept finding that they'd either cost less than the listed SP cost or more. There was a wiki conversation that popped up when people began noticing it too. One person suggested that the more you spam the higher the cost but I don't know if that's true. Don't exactly know the rhyme or reason as to why sometimes it costs less or more but it is what it is.

Kai's overall HP and MP went down but not drastically. I'm still nearing the 20 million caps. Interestingly the void for me has gotten a bit harder due to the HP/MP calculation changes. Since the enemies have really good attributes their HP amounts are now higher after the change. Probably would experience a slight bump in difficulty with awakened dungeons as well. Still, I welcome the challenge and the other changes and additions of this patch are most welcome.

I doubt it. Ensemble has been failing with me having 90+ SP (double or more what it costs) since I've got it.
It seems to be pretty consistent on the very first use in an area like party time quests then it just does whatever the hell it wants. Its a very unfun mechanic. I grinded these skills to spam them, it was the entire point.

What do you guys think about the increase in the wish and living weapon drop chances. I been playing as a sim-harvestmoon/mohon game and personally I'm kind of against it since they use to be something rare and thus more satisfiying when I got it.

I'm still on my second character 780h in and been updating since version 1.14, and only gotten 4 living weapon and a few wishes. I make a habit of visiting Noyal,like a pilgramage, and quaffing from the well every December. I never once seen an enternal force weapon either but I guess he's gonna up the rate on those too; soon.

Has there really been a wish increase from wells? I mean you still have to deal with that formula that decreases your chance of a successful wish from a well. You may now have a greater chance at getting that wish due to you instead of some bad thing from the well but wouldn't you just see more, "You feel a good stroke of good fortune pass you by." messages? Or has that formula been changed? As for rods and spellbooks of wish, it doesn't feel like I'm seeing more of them than usual.

I'm glad that living weapon spawn has increased. It has helped in gearing my pets at the very least and it's nice to have better control over the enchants you want on a weapon. Kind of a stepping stone to the artifact fusion system.

Does CU not translate that quest? If it does and you're in 1.68 you may want to wait for CU to come out for it. For quests that I couldn't find translations for I normally just turn the game to Japanese and read it. Even in Japanese, there should be a journal header saying quest and underneath it a list of ongoing quests. I just needed to find the quest saying Sophia lv 150 which is what I have highlighted in red. Highlighted in blue is the date I have to stop by to help her out. It's in year, month, day format. Highlighted in green is the exact time I need to talk to her. It's going my military time and says to meet her from half past hour 14 to hour 15. So 2:30 PM to 3 PM. That base is multiplied by its material and enchantments. I started with a baseline of ''if it vendors for 2000 or more, I will throw it in my shop''.

When you start crafting a ton of valuable stuff you're not planning on using, that's when your shop will shine.

Cooked food doesn't rot, and higher tier muskmelon dishes vendor for tens of thousands so will sell for just as much as a high quality panty.

Stack lightning resistance. If you've been running by the shops and crafting equipment you'll find ''defender'' and ''of lightning'' equipment are not very rare. Other damage to look out for right now are nerve (e.g. cockatrices), poison (black lizardman) and darkness (dragon zombie, also breathes poison).

The bonus stamina regeneration from worshipping Kumiromi + regeneration/troll's blood is great for running a food shop. Getting the amulet from him is also great for seed conservation.
I currently worship Yacatect and am farming little sisters. I pick up every single piece of equipment I find and dump it into my shop when it's cleared. 4 dimensional pocket it a must for this. The volume of trade-ins is the biggest drawback of operating am armory. I wish there was a way to tell my shopkeeper not to accept or to resell trade-ins below miracle quality.

Speaking of information the wiki is lacking, can anyone tell me about how handmade chocolates work? It just turned February so I made some but every adventurer rejects it. Do I have to already be at Friend level like tokens of friendship or what?

Building relationship with adventurers seems like more trouble than it's worth but it'd be nice to get those good gifts instead of IEDs. It's on the wiki, on the food article. Must be friend or higher to accept chocolate, eating it doesn't have any special effects but giving it raises impress.

Just talking usually raises impress a couple of points. Food with a love potion mixed in helps. The karma hit isn't a big deal because you're likely to find corpses to bury all the time, and can stash wallets/suitcases at home. At friend you can move on to crafted tokens of friendship. If you complete dungeons with any regularity you'll have more than enough medals/boxes.

That depends entirely on you and how you want to play. My list is like ice bolt, water bolt, element scar, ice ball, basically all debuffs, heal critical, 4D pocket, dominate etc. Just play for a bit and you'll learn what's useful. You obviously don't need to keep utility spells that you won't be spamming to grind up such as teleport on reserve. Just reserve things like that for one cycle and collect 1-2k stock and forget about it.

Is there any way to raise potential of a certain skill? I've got 3 at 0% and several more under 10%. Should I just keep sleeping in a king bed and hope they go up?

I'm level 20, fighting a level 25 steel golem. The shitwiki says it has 150 life, yet I did over 2k damage with sword and spell, yet still died. I'm trying to figure out what I did wrong there.
