Go back to /b/.

>> No.1704024

Try out Embodiment of Scarlet Devil first to get a feel for grazing and streaming, then PCB and IN.

>> No.1704048

Imperishable night on Lunatic.

>> No.1704056

IN's spell practice mode is great for newbies. People always say you'll develop bad habits playing it first, but I think that only applies to Border Team's counterbomb hax.

The new ones have better music in terms of actual sound quality. Quality of the compositions is a judgment call.

THIS THIS THIS

Fuck am I spoiled by Reimu/Yukari's counterbomb time.

Thankfully I got SO DAMN GOOD at it I can now effectively counterbomb in all the Touhous.

Perfect Cherry Blossom.

>> No.1704069

EoSD has a good, diverse mix of themes, but the loops are rather short.

>> No.1704071

Imperishable Night and Perfect Cherry Blossom are the standard recommendations. I prefer IN's gameplay but I enjoy PCB's theme a bit more.

i got this during the installation of Shoot the Bullet (I'm installing / extracting all the games before i start playing them) what do I do?

I have the language pack installed, non unicode set to japanese, all the usual stuff for running games like these set up.

IN is easier only if you have the patience to memorize everything in spell practice. PCB depends more on skill, and is a much better game.

OP here i just tried PCB for 10 mins and i like it very much,I also tried Phantasmagoria of Flower View for a few mins and it was nice too. i like this series. I'm going to try Embodiment next, thanks

Used Reimu A. Youmu was my biggest problem actually.
Most of her Spell cards seem to have "holes" in the bullets during the slowdown phase. I just try to quickly scan for an area with a larger space to graze. Sword swpies have a pause in-between them so you can freely move out of the way. I just wing it when she sends the two opposing wave of danmaku from the right and left at you. Most of the time you can sit there , moving around too much always fucks me over.

>> No.1704273

OP if you ever want to look further into the games to milk the mechanics, you can find some pretty good scoring information and whatnot at the touhou wiki.

>> No.1704303

>>1704277
Yeah, I typically use Sakuya A despite the fact that you have to deal with Merlin first on stage 4. PCB represented a pretty big increase in difficulty over EOSD and even though I was used to using Marisa A, my progress on learning how to correctly position myself on some of the more dense cards was tough.

>> No.1704301

The first one I played was PCB,

But you might want to try IN first, I think it's easier. (just my opinion)

>> No.1704310

Also OP don't start on easy mode.
Start in normal or harder, it will be more frustrating but you will get better faster.
Personally I use marisa (started with laser marisa but I switched to magic missile because I depended too much on Master Spark)

>> No.1704328

>>1704277
I hear you on Youmu... Youmu and the Prismriver sisters are where I burn most of my lives in PCB. Normally I play Marisa A... Actually, that's about all I play unless it's MoF/SA.

>> No.1704341

Embodiment of Scarlet Devil and Shoot the Bullet are my favorites, but I might just be a bit masochistic. IN is awesome but the difficulty is sort of all over the place. Reisen on hard is easier than Marisa on normal. PCB is kinda bleh till you unlock extra, which is admittedly the best extra out of all of the games. MoF has a retarded stage 4, but it's still a lot better than some people would say, especially the fight with Kanako. SA is just insane bullshit all of a sudden once you reach Orin. I've captured 55 cards in StB, but Orin has multiple cards I will never capture anytime soon. The main problem with SA for me is that it just FEELS more frustrating, even though I'm not much worse at it, just because the first few stages are much more of a challenge than they are in the rest, and if I die on something easier, I automatically restart the game because 1cc'ing is often about stocking up lives in the early portions so you have more leniency in the later stages. Overall, EoSD > StB > IN = PCB > SA = MoF > PoFV. As for the music, IN >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> EoSD > PCB > the rest. I love the music to all of them, but the rest don't even approach Eirin and Marisa's themes from IN. EoSD is 2nd place for Remilia and Flandre's themes, though I also really like the stages 1 and 2 music, though no one else really pays attention to them. PCB has Yuyuko and Yukari's themes. And yes, it is skewed toward final bosses. In the rest of the stages the BGM is generally treated solely as background music, whereas in final and extra stages it's used to add a feeling of power to the bosses, and to me that's one of the things ZUN does best. The first time I fought Eirin, I couldn't believe the way the overwhelming barrages of bullets went with the ridiculously upbeat music and the constant suspense of whether you'd get through. There's nothing like it.

Fucking hate the jump between stage 3 and 4

Stage 1-2 This isn't so bad, wonder what everyones talking about
Stage 3 Ok now it's beginning to ramp up a little bit but nothing too bad
Stage 4 FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Stage 4 boss UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

Hah, yeah. I remember when I finally got around to downloading the full version as opposed to the demo I had. Beat Alice and got all pumped up in anticipation for Stage 4. Aaaaaaaaand then I died. Again. And again. And again. God damn did that suck.

>> No.1704396

>>1704341
So far as music goes, PCB > SA ~= EoSD > IN > the rest, in my opinion. I'm heavily weighted in favor of PCB though since it was my first Touhou game. I heard Stage 1-3's themes and boss themes so many times because of the demo that I probably rank them well beyond what most people do.

MoF:
Stage 1 - pretty easy
Minoriko - somewhat harder than the other Stage 1 bosses, but still easy.
Stage 2 - pretty easy
Hina - easier than most other Stage 2 bosses.
Stage 3 - it is getting harder
Nitori - yep, harder indeed
Stage 4 - FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Aya - UUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKK
Stage 5 - AARGHHHHH WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT!
Sanae - well, she was kind enough to allow me to catch some breath
Stage 6 - is that it?
Kanako - FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

That may be true, but running around all over the screen, always autocollecting and not planning your movement ahead of time gets you killed in the other games on higher difficulties. That and it teaches terrible counterbomb habits. Whole second to counterbomb my ass.

PCB or IN to learn the game, then MoF or EoSD if you don't want to take it easy. SA and StB will just frustrate someone new to danmaku, but they'll teach you good shmup skills later on.
