Question: how much do you have to grind to finish Act 1? I enjoy the game so far, but I'm lvl 35 and got murdered on Lesimas 33 by some invisible monster throwing pots and spells at me. Do I need to bother with main quest at all?

>> No.16982795

>>16982717
People have definitely beaten act one at lower levels then you are at before, but it varies based on your gear and playstyle.

No matter what, invisible enemies will not become any easier until you either get a piece of equipment that let's you see invisible creatures or get a way to wet everything around you (such as a rod of bubble ball or alchemical rain special action).

My gear doesn't allow me to take more than a few hits, and pets go down fast when facing strong monsters. I play wizard.

>> No.16982878

>>16982824
Ah, honestly I'd say just go around raising your skill levels/the main spells you use and find some decent equipment with resists first. Also do the same for your pets if you can, since things seem to get exponentially easier the more pets you have even if they are mediocre.

I decimated Zeome at level 30 as a long sword melee build with 4 pets.

But really unless you want to have better access to herb seeds with the Kuromi statue, there isn't a reason to rush to act 2. Just go around doing whatever you want and enjoy the game.

You can probably beat Act 1 as you are, even when some monsters can still kill you (I think a halloween nightmare throwing a high damage potion can kill even higher level characters).

Remember to enchant you and your pets gear (say up to +3). I always stay on the lookout for gear of [element] or defender, got some of my best pieces from pets crafting it overnight and trading with adventurers.

Shiet no wonder you're getting smashed man, you need to invest in magic vendors so that they start stocking scrolls of change material/superior material. Bless a stack of scrolls after gathering a bunch, and then use them to change your gear to e.g. rubynus/diamond/adamantite. Glass gear makes you a little faster but leaves you as brittle as, well, glass.

Can you change the name of your class after character creation? So you can start as one class, and then change later on. I know business cards are a thing, but I don't know how that would work.

When you change your class name with a business card to an existing class (lowercase only for some reason), you actually get the appropriate class feat, replacing your previous one. http://elona.wikia.com/wiki/Class_feats_(Elona%2B) I often get a card when getting a lot of wins playing blackjack on a lucky day.

Finding special inn meal that raises growth for almost everything + dumbell of Opatos + training machine to be on par with eating herbs while a hungry host nibbles on you. At least that's how it is for attributes really high level where everything takes awhile to level. Wonder how good special inn meal + training machine is in early game where it's easy to level up multiple attributes at the same time.

>>16983996
Definitely a powerful feature but gets incredibly expensive later on. The exp you get towards your spells is fixed but the learning attribute does help a bit in the final total of exp you get. Each session will cap out at 10 platinum however it will eventually take multiple sessions to level up spells since spell levels will demand more exp to level. I probably dump at least 600 platinum just to level spells from 400 potential until I drill down to around 200. I still use the service when I get the platinum for it because it's fast, levels up a bunch of spells, and helps level up attributes. If I don't have the platinum leveling it the old fashion way works well. The challenge is just keeping potential at a decent level.

It will be awhile before beings that justify raising the cap will show up at the rate Act 3 is progressing. I'm guessing that chaos god that the other gods don't like would constitute such a situation. I imagine if they have difficulty dealing with the chaos god then its attributes and skill levels are higher than the inner gods 2000 attributes and 1000ish skill levels. Or perhaps another threat such as a renegade inner god or some other menace will come along that will justify raising the cap.

>>16989157
It's been awhile since I've done awakened dungeons but is dim a floor hazard now? Only remember gravity, poison, time, and discharge being floor hazards. I really should start doing them again as there's something that only my pet Akeno with her bitflags can test for me concerning Nefia cores.

At any rate, enemies having an easier time dimming the player is a normal feature of higher level monsters. Since awakened dungeons and the void scale monsters, dim becomes a big problem. You don't need to be a Golem to avoid dim. You just need enough sound resist to avoid it. As enemies get stronger you will need more sound resist to keep up.

After a certain point, the normal way to measure resists, weak, normal, superb, etc, doesn't cut it and you need to measure resists in class. Even though all my resists are shown as superb they certainly are not equal as shown with the object of heart. I've been immune to dim for a very long time with a sound resist of class 20. I'm not a Golem but just a Eulderna. So you may want to aim for a sound resist class of 20 or some other number if you're not a Golem. I got to this resist class through artifact fusion so you may want to look into that or at the very least, start paying attention to gear with sound resist and start stacking even more of it.

Alright, thank you for the informative response. I fused some murder cds into my gear but it still seems to happen. It's not when the monsters attack me, but rather when I attack them. Once, in an awakened dungeon of level 240ish, I used swarm during timestop surrounded by 6 or 7 enemies and instantly got the status effect "Unconscious" and died. Apparently Dim goes in stages of Dim -> Muddled -> Unconscious. It seems from standpoint to depend on how many times you attack per turn.

Every single awakened dungeon is like this regardless of floor hazards, and it happens no where else (not even the void). I spend virtually every moment of every battle in every awakened dungeon with the Dim status effect.

Ran a couple of lv 400-600 awakened dungeons. Dim doesn't appear to be a floor hazard. For a couple of dungeons, I ran without having any armor on and sure enough I was getting dimmed from enemies. Like the shoebill in the top left picture would claw at me and cause dim anytime it wasn't applied. Put on my armor and he couldn't dim me which is the picture to the right. There are enemies that can dim you on attacking them. In the dungeons I did, I found that the hungry sea lion, dead eye dragon, and mithril golem caused me dim on touching them. Got a picture of the mithril golem doing it in the bottom left. Again, after putting on my equipment I was immune to dim. Not pictured is where I only put on the equipment with sound resist and sure enough I wasn't getting dimmed after that.

Aside from enemies that can dim you with its attack, my only guess about why when you touch certain enemies they can dim you as well is that they too might have that AP trait of charm or something like that.

Could have them man shops as well (I noticed there is an option that trains shopkeeper negotiation+charisma potential for some gold). Getting the charisma to have a lot of pets is easy with just investing and shopping, but it takes a lot of time to train and gear one up so a small group is best.

On the main squad I piled every piece of elemental gear I could find, each piece enchanted+changed to superior materials and everything. Now all of them can take a hit and survive e.g. dragon breath or bomb rocks.

Dominating a cockatrice might be a good idea for the ranch (285 breeding power despite being a level 50 npc, liberally uses nerve arrow and eye of stiffen)

It says on the wiki you can store up to 3000 AP, but mine stops at around 2k, it also seems like I'm losing a few points of AP as the number in parentheses is higher than the count on the left which is supposed to be AP I can currently spend.

Thank god you came with the element bitflag Akeno making you immune to fire. I can't normally just tag any pet to me and meteor everything in the void to farm you AP. Meteor normally kills them many times over because they just don't have enough fire resist or magic resist.

Maybe I can get you to 1000 MA from 600 in an hour by doing this tag meteor combo.

>>17002062
2000 is the max you can get before you need to spend it. The second number in parathesis under AP on the character sheet is the total amount of AP the pet or character has made during its lifetime. Like for my pet Akeno she has made 19,600 AP since the time I've begun raising her. Currently she has 0 AP to spend due to the fact that I've already spent it all on AP to bonus points from Leold. Maybe the wiki's 3000 is referring to that.

Also, pets not running out of attract from just talking is normal. They'll always love to talk with you unless they hate you or something.

Known ways to actually decrease pet attract are things like using them in the Ensemble special action or smacking them. Not 100% sure on others, though.

If you really want to solo power to you man, but pets make life so much easier. They grow at a much faster rate than you do, take hits for you, clear out areas for you and shower you with gifts. Items such as ores and herbed food are wasted on yourself, because pets get many times the benefit from them. I've had most of mine from the beginning --- now I'm around Lv 30, but my pets are more than ten levels higher and way tougher than my PC. I've kept about 5-7 levels ahead of my 4 pets, and we still wrecked thinks many times our levels while in our 20s. Beat Act 1 at about level 24 (pets lower) without any dedicated stat grinding.

Numbers are king it seems. The more party you have the more divided the enemies efforts are, the more damage the party attacks are doing, and that isn't even accounting for custom ai.

Barrier is generally good, especially for non-magic users, since it acts essentially as a second HP bar. As for others, can't really give a good advice.

>Lastly I want to teach a pet some skills in custom but it's not showing certain ones though I'm sure they should qualify, is there a list of all the abilities I can or can't teach them somewhere?
Can't help you on this one, either pet already has the skill or something else is in action here.
The full list though is on the wiki: http://elona.wikia.com/wiki/AP

>Not sure if I need to use AP for moves like Attribute or if I just need to grind stats much higher or not.
That depends on your playstyle, Attribute is very good for martial artists since it adds magic damage to your punches (notable: nether heals you a bit, chaos can apply up to 5 status effects, magic is less resisted than others, element can be changed with <Element Eyes>)

>>17015613
While this is true, it may lead to problems when you want to have all resists covered on every pet. Summon spirit for party time quests is now completely nerfed. Didn't see it in the patch notes but in 1.67 fix 2 it's nerfed at least. Picture on the left shows the points my character Kai got using spirits. Picture on the right is actually of me just using fascination dance on everyone. Got more points just using fascination dance on everyone at the party instead of killing everyone and replacing them with high level spirits.

Back to the slower way of farming hero cheese and magic fruit. Certainly not impossible to do just slower. Managed to get around 15,000 tickets just doing all the party time quests in North Tyris and South Tyris with fascination dance and the job boards seem to refresh in about every 3 days. Can always get hero cheese and magic fruit from little sister turn ins as well.

Definitely going to add extra time to getting my pets to where I want them to be but I'll manage.

Chara quality up is something to grab eventually as it is useful but for me it's rather low priority on things to get because of other things I prioritize working on before getting that. Such as speed upgrades and bonus points for skill ups.

Barrier and charm are the ones I get for my character and pets. Since I don't like running with low HP and heal myself when I can, I wouldn't get much use out of the other traits. If you don't mind staying at low life then those other traits might be useful to you. They can be pretty strong especially if you stack it with other buffs and special actions.

I kind of figured it was worth it, but if I can remove the brackets anyways I'm not too concerned, I'll make that the 3rd thing I get.
I meant the skill list for CUSTOM. Since we can't teach our pets certain moves with it. I have attribute unlocked for my PC and I want to teach a pet that, but I don't know if we're able to outside of spending AP. I'll just keep raising their stats to make sure, I'm sure the requirements can't be more than 10 times normal even if the normal is twice. Better safe than to waste AP. Didn't know Element Eyes also works on Attribute, I'll have to go grab that.

So one is always active, one is active as long as you have enough MP, the other two don't do anything unless your HP is low, and all 4 revolve around you taking hits in some form.
Going to have to agree with your choices as I don't make a habit of running around with lower life on purpose opting to be fully capped in HP.
I'm not particularly interested in a glass cannon build and it'd probably be better to just have enough base evasion and such to make sure you don't fall into less than 50% life to begin with.

Thanks for the info anons.

Well can't seem to get around grinding of some form. It's a big part of the game so yeah there's that. Bosses as far as I can tell have something about them that makes it harder to stick debuffs on them but it's possible. Just need to work on leveling said debuffs. Been using tons of debuffs on bosses and enemies for a very long time such as ones that slow them down or silence them if they heal and teleport.

Stealing does work on bosses. Picture shows me robbing a skeleton boss blind. Took his sword, helm, and armor. Was successful on my first try for the sword and armor but for the helm I needed two attempts. You need a high enough pickpocketing skill and after that blinding, putting the person to sleep, or doing the deed in darkness will help.

If you're not using special ammo and taking advantage of additional range attack for more attacks each turn you're only doing a fraction of your damage potential. As for pets, they're definitely nice to have but you certainly can solo the game if you need to. I have another picture of me stealing stuff from a powerful enemy in the void as well. So pickpocketing does work even later on.

In the void I can steal from enemies. It's easier with normal enemies as bosses can't be put to sleep but regular enemies can be. I used the special action where if you touch an enemy you can put them to sleep and proceeded to take the weapon of this juere swordsman. In the past I had fun stealing the hammers of the Atlas. They're really strong with their two hand skill and a decent hammer but forcing them to use their bare hands reduced their damage a bit.

No idea. if you're talking about the summon spirit thing I guess it was bound to happen. It was quite the effort to get to like lv 800 summon spirit in the first place and then to have a performance skill around 900 to 1000 to get the stars on their heads. But I guess the silver lining is that you don't need to grind for that anymore. Instead the grind just switched to doing many party time quests. If 8 party time quests can give 12k to 15k in tickets and the job board refreshes every 3 in game days I'm sure I can still get a decent amount of hero cheese and fruit.

Wouldn't be worth it. I had heard in patches past that Ano really wanted to halve the reward value of things summoned in. He first started with undead and I guess now he got around to the spirits. Each party has a maximum amount of people that can attend so you need to kill people to make room for the spirits. Problem is you're killing people for spirits that don't give as much points as the regular people now. So it's actually better to just perform or use fascination dance on the regular attendees. I prefer fascination dance as the animation is fast, works off of charisma which is very easy to raise with bulk investment, and I think in one of the patches Ano said you may get slightly more points from that than performing. I could be wrong on that but I've been using it nevertheless.

The quest itself will only give you one plat and music tickets. For tickets I can get around 1500 to 2000 each party time quest. Don't know if you need as high of performer or attribute levels as I have to get those numbers but from what I can tell, it's merely the audience and the number of named NPCs that show up that will determine your score. All that matters is that you're successful enough in your performer skill to get stars over their heads.

Is the pv/dv you get from armor essential?
When I made my mutant, I only gave him hand slots, and I am feeling a little bit squishy with 17 life.
Since I don't think you can really get more than 10 pv/dv on each weapon, and with only body slot I'm not sure how to do it.

I can get plenty of resistances easily because of the precious weapons. And chest slots don't have anything that I can't get elsewhere except pv/dv, where as more weapons always have more utility, if not for the damage, which is why I went for hand slots instead.

I have eight slots left which I'll use one for neck for the twin edge, at least one ring slot for aurora ring, maybe ring of steel dragon.
Leg for seven league boots, but this one too isn't really super important. Arm for Cestus of Meteors. Back for the Mighty Arms.
Head for the Sage's Helm, but that isn't that needed either, just an earlier source of see invisible, but I should be able to get that with the solar cane.

I'd just like some thoughts on what to do, I doubt too many people play mutants, but I figured trying one would be fun.

>> No.17020350

I think every character needs high dv or pv, even a fairy that can barely wear anything relies on defense from equipment. With a lot of hands you are presumably going into melee and thus getting hit a lot, which will lead to you getting wrecked fast unless you mitigate the damage. Maybe wear multiple shields/tonfa? Focus on defensive spells? I hear that claws and tonfa limit your attacks to 4, though. Another problem would be getting resists, you'd need to basically put resist sticks in your hands instead of actually strong weapons.

Shields are off-limits, since I think they make me train shield instead of dual wield, and considering my hit chance for some weapons is like -160% I need to level it.

Party time quests I guess are just one more thing to do from my usual challenge and panic quest farming for platinum. In one hour of game time I got a pretty good haul. Enough platinum to level up my spells from attending the magic schools, a bunch of wonder scrolls, enough herb seeds to fill at least another farm if I wish to, a spellbook of wish that I can pull 50 wishes out, and enough music tickets for 4 hero cheese or 4 magic fruit. That's a neat trick and makes sense to do given the recent changes. I normally keep my eyes on wonder scrolls, spellbooks of wish, potions of potential, descent potions(rare but I have seen them on my magic vendors from time to time), and gain material scrolls which I farm in bulk and read to craft gear.

Most of my gold I've gained through just picking up all the junk gear in dungeons and selling them in the pet run shops. When I craft things I usually only save a handful of items with the rest of the stuff I put in my shops too. Between the crafting and selling of junk armor I make a decent amount of gold. I have some magic seed farms which I use in hopes of getting rods of wishing. All other rods I put in my magic shop run by my pet. Sometimes I'll just buy out all the stuff from magic vendors and put them in my pet shops relying on trade ins for better stuff. Such as spellbook trade ins for hopes of a spellbook of wish.

So it seems for now I get most of my gold through treating my pet run shops as recycling centers. I may look into taking the junk from dungeons and applying those material scrolls to sell for markup in my pet run shops. Thanks for the heads up on that.

I bless the stack and then get around 200-400 levels depending on how many spellbooks of wish I have or wish stock gained from wonder scrolls. The wish goddess knows me by name because I'm constantly putting in orders for a shipment of descent potions.

I loaded an old character and had no idea, had to go through the pet army one by one. It would be nice if there was a line in the character screen that shows who your PC is married to.

Or maybe also a listing of your adopted imoutos, like expanding the ''designate pets as precious'' option with giving them little titles. Could have a <Family registry> book that lists them or something.

I used Karata as the base for Akeno. Just changed the gender using forbidden meat and changed the sprite. So Karata has cResEle. Other creatures that have the bitflag include Murder Cockroach, Gokiburi, Grass Dancer, Grass Killer, King Cockroach, and possibly Cubes.

Meteor's damage is fire based so having enough fire resist is ideal to mitigate its damage. Magic resist can work too as magic resist helps reduce all spell damage regardless of element however its main specialty is magic. Resists of the appropriate kind(Ex:fire resist for fire) do a better job resisting their respective element though. So with enough fire resist or magic resist any pet can survive the player's meteors. I have class 8 fire resist on my character and he can walk through his meteors fine so that's what I would need to aim for for my pets as well.

The problem with me is that I'm having problems keeping up with the resist needs of my 4 pets. A common problem that will emerge as parties get bigger. Crafting has allowed me to make decent armor with resists for my pets but there's resist holes that need to be filled with artifact fusion. The main bottle neck for taking advantage of artifact fusion for resists for me is gain attribute scrolls being needed. I've been able to get those scrolls through finding them in dungeons and through magic shop trade ins but my resist demands exceed supply. One of these days I'm going to need to set aside a bunch of wishes to just wish for those scrolls again.

My other pets have resist holes in their gear however due to Akeno's element resist bitflag and metal bit, I can be really lazy with her gear at the cost of having a harder time farming AP for her because of her INI score. All I need to do with her is just load her up with magic resist since that's the only hole in her resists she has. That's been pretty easy to plug and since she's near fire immune I can easily meteor around her without having to worry that it will kill her.

Not at all. Even if a silence spell lasted 5 turns I'd still use it just to keep a boss from healing itself. Considering spells can last up to hundreds of turns once they're leveled up even a reduction of 80 percent isn't something to care about later on. Duration isn't a problem. Getting it to stick is a problem but normally if you can get a high level spell to stick it lasts long enough to end the fight.

Depends on the situation. If the enemies heal spell is powerful enough that it negates the amount of damage you're doing then silence is definitely worth it. If your slow spell is powerful enough and lasts long enough you can make it so you take more turns than the boss and do more damage or heal yourself. Then there are enemies with specific resists and if you weaken or remove the resists entirely they become easier to deal with. Especially true again if the enemy can heal itself and you're just planning to overwhelm their healing or trying to kill them before they kill you.

So, something that people were requesting several times for Custom was additional map types for the randomly generated maps.

I finally got around to looking at the map generation code and figuring out how it works. I've implemented two additional types so far, one which is a Archimidean Spiral, and the other which is more like a maze based on recursive division. Not sure either one really makes a great map, to be honest.

So, anons, here are my questions for you:

1) Do you have any ideas for additional random map types? Details or examples of the generation would be helpful. Honestly I can't really come up with many ideas for new floor types.

2) Do you think configuration for the maps should be user editable (in a txt file)? There will be some randomness either way, but for example with the recursive division design, you could set the depth of recursion, min corridor/room size, min/max map size, etc. I've done all these right now while I'm testing them, but I'm not sure if I should keep all this open for players.

Thanks.

Image is an example of the Archimidean Spiral.

Thanks for your work Anna, and the spiral looks nice.

Not sure how one would implement it, but I thought it would be interesting to have maps that are just grids of similarly sized/shaped rooms separated by doors.

I thought it would be fun to try and peak into a room, slam the door if something you don't like is inside, then rush to another door.

Though I admit everyone that just rushes Dungeons would likely hare them or just destroy all the walls with houzana.

Spiral would be nice, especially in tower nefia.
I'd like to see floor layouts that look purposeful, ie a mess hall, manufactory, catacombs etc... This would require spawning furniture, and I don't know if that is possible. The available tiles I think is also tied to the dungeon type, at least I can't recall seeing a random one that had an earth and stone floor.

Not sure what level of customization a level configuration file would give. Would we be able to write own generation algorithms or only change parameters of existing ones?

Fascination dance is what I'm currently using at party time quests. You make slightly less gold using it but you gain a bit more tickets at party time quests. Currently farming tickets for hero cheese and magic fruit for my pets but tickets can also be used to supplement herb supplies and I got plenty of speed uppers by using tickets.

For some reason I read that as Yacatect saying that to me because my eyes were attracted to the more gold part. That would be funny if she actually said that considering she's the person always asking if you're making gold and when you load up the game she gets all fired up about you making gold.

Considering I now have Yacatect working as one of my shopkeepers, I look forward to the day where I'm the one who wakes her up smugly saying it's time to make some gold yet having her groan saying I've made enough and should just be content.

>>17031392
I wonder how giving the keys to the player so to speak in determining dungeon design plays into farming small medals, gold, and big daddies.

For the player wanting to game the system, I could see a player reducing the map to its smallest size and to one corridor to farm gold and to have an easier time shooting for stairs to hunt the boss for small medals. If the amount of enemies on a floor is dictated by map size, then a player would increase the size of the map to max for an increased chance of big daddies spawning.

Should the player have the power to do that?

>> No.17032698

>>17032372
>If the amount of enemies on a floor is dictated by map size

It's not, actually. There's another variable that controls both mob density and item density on the floor. Which is why in the above spiral you see no items on the floor; I have it set to 0 for testing so I don't have to deal with enemies.

Big Daddy spawn chance is also independent of normal enemy spawns, so even if map size influenced other enemy spawns, big daddy would be unaffected.

The rest is valid though, but I would end up adding a minimum that would overwrite the player's value if they put something smaller than that. Otherwise they could put something nonsensical like a 0x0 map (or even 1x1 or 3x3) which would cause a crash.

It may be worth adding some tighter controls on what a user can edit - though at the same time, people will also find ways to cheat if they want to, so should other users really be restricted because of that?

>>17032259
>I'd like to see floor layouts that look purposeful, ie a mess hall, manufactory, catacombs etc...
Hmm. It would be possible, but certainly more complicated. I'm also not great at designing good looking rooms in general. If you or someone else wants to put together a mockup sample of a room or floor like this, I can see about generating similar setups.

For customization... I guess it would be better if I gave specific examples for the types I've implemented (putting aside the obvious min/max map dimensions).

For spiral...
You can adjust the width of the spiral corridor, the angle(?) of the spiral itself (as in, making the spiral skewed more horizontal or more vertical - in the screenshot the spiral is even), the "tightness" of the spiral (space between each segment of the spiral), so on. This will have some randomness anyways to prevent getting the same map over and over, but you could play with it more if you wanted.

For the recursive division floors...
The primary two customizations are the recursion depth (how many times each segment will be split) and the minimum room/corridor size. It's a little hard to explain without pictures, but basically a lower recursion depth will likely leave larger rooms, with a high recursion depth leaving smaller corridors/rooms. Minimum room/corridor size is pretty self explanatory though I think.

Might want to look at what the wiki says about luck. It's not exactly a well understood attribute in how it works as reports from people have been mixed with some people saying it does play a role in x and y while others dismiss such claims. Having said that, I haven't actively gone out of my way to raise luck for my character and he's doing alright. Don't know if he'd actually do better by increasing his luck but it's very low on my priority list of stuff to raise.

Those happy apples cost quite a number of music tickets that I could be using for hero cheese which I understand better and know will help me out whereas luck is a bit dubious. I could use wishes for Kagami Mochi to raise luck but at this point in time I would rather use my wishes on gain attribute scrolls and descent potions.

You should be fine for the most part with just default luck. So no real number to aim for. If you do go the route of actively increasing your luck though let us know if you discover anything with it.

Is there a max cart upgrade now? I am at 200 weight and it says the next upgrade is 10 bronze coins but it won't happen even though I have 16 or is it just display bugged and needs 20 or something?

If you throw a molotov you might be able to burn the plant before the altar.

I tried to come up with floor plans that would encourage the player to explore the entire floor, but I guess magic mapping sorta makes that pointless.

I was thinking a k-d tree (maybe 3 levels?) could be used to draw the catacomb hallways so they'd not intersect with each other to give it a winding labyrinth-like feeling. Small puddles of shallow water add atmosphere and also make lightning and ice more useful and more dangerous.

For the other two I was thinking something more static. The manufactory is a large central room, possibly partitioned with wall segments into smaller sections where equipment it mass produced, with smaller random specialty forges and storerooms, with workers' barracks and stairwells on the ends.

The dining hall is, well, a big dining room full of tables and chairs, maybe even food, a kitchen with some low-mid grade cooking furniture (since that's easy to get with modest shop investment) and a storeroom. Maybe random smaller rooms attached. I guess the hall could be two smaller halls, partially divided by load-bearing walls (no doors, just 3-4 wide gaps).

My least favorite dungeon layout is the one that's nothing but a corridor with a few small rooms, pretty much requires Houzuhan spam just to move around.

Most dead-ends in this dungeon type are actually secret passages. With decent detection they are pretty easy to open.

It is rather strange, as that's pretty much the only random dungeon layout that uses secret passages.
Actually, I can't think of anything else in the game that uses them.

and I tried using a molotov on the altar. For those who are curious, it doesn't look like the plant is destructible with fire considering I let the fire spread to the entire rest of the area and everything else burned with the dead plant remaining intact. The only way I could get rid of it was nipping it after the altar itself had burned, so I guess it's staying there indefinitely.

In regards to combat spells that aren't pure magic, are they really worth it? I just got to thinking how you have to use nightmare or elemental scar to get any effect out of them on a lot of monsters, and from what I understand this proves even more true when you get to the crazy late game where everything has resistances. Applying this logic to boss monsters, this seems to apply even more to them, since you have to hex them and they gimp your hexes by a extreme margin, using 3-4 turns to even get a hex to stick while they pound away at you. When I think about turn efficiency, I'm starting to doubt the use of these spells. Spells with effects also scale their damage worse than pure magic spells, so that's icing on the cake. Can anyone give me a reason why I'm wrong here?

For the most part only lightning is really worthwhile to train. The wet status effect boosts lightning damage is a weird way, against things with low lightning resists it is just double damage like you expect but against very high lightning resist enemies you do far more damage then you would think. This is worth it to kill a few enemies who have massive resists to all elements including magic.

Not even fire is any good if it isn't meteor being cast. Most undead have a massive fire weakness but this is removed at the relatively low level of 100 and by 200ish you might as well just be using magic dart. Ice is even worse off as most things that are a "fire whatever" are usually not weak to ice at all.

Elements in general need to be looked at. With so many options nearly every enemy should have an elemental weakness, but there are so many superfluous elements that are all worthless for you to train. Mind, Chaos, Nether, Darkness, Sound, Nerve you might as well not even have these spells as pretty much nothing is weak to those attacks ever.

After looking at the numbers on the wiki for a bit, it seems I was wrong about the scaling. It looks like pure magic scales the worst, but you still have to worry about resistances if you were to try to use something like nerve or ice. This makes it kind of complicated. I wonder how it works out in the end. If you were to have lvl 2000 magic missile and 2000 nerve bolt I wonder what the numbers would look like.

1) Some of my current spell levels for my character. Notice that even though fireball is lower level than my magic storm it has better damage dice. Also Element Scar reports that it lasts 490 turns but due to the enhance spell enchants on my armor it lasts much longer.

2) Dungeon boss of a lv 400 or so dungeon. Resists are are all around superb but due to enemy type lightning and nether is a bit better. Note that magic resist on scaled enemies increase. Instead of having none this guy has normal.

3) Despite bosses being resistant to hexes I still use them and duration is not a problem once spells are leveled. My element scar still lasts 193 turns. Enough to cast 193 elemental spells so no need to try to stick another hex in this fight once applied.

4) Highlighted in blue in my magic storm damage. Highlighted in red is my fireball damage. Fireball does about 15k more damage than magic storm when element scar is applied. So the take away here is that elemental spells can do more damage than magic storm.

Now, what should we conclude if we don't land the hex on the first turn? Well, eventually the damage difference between an elemental spell and magic storm will make the elemental spell catch up to magic storm. For instance, missing the hex on the first turn but nailing it on the second will lead to my fireball equaling the damage of magic storm on turn 10 and from then on fireball does more damage than magic storm.

So, in prolonged fights, elemental spells may do more damage than magic storm but in shorter fights it's possible magic storm can finish the fight earlier.

to be cont.

5) Elemental spells are very powerful when used against enemies that are weak against it. Undead is normally weak against fire and here we have an ancient coffin in the void weak against fire.

6) How long my Element Scar normally lasts. So the coffin was already weak and I just made him even more weak.

7) Magic storm did about 57k to the coffin but my fireball did around 680k.

8) Elemental spells such as fire, cold, and lightning can have damage mods applied to them. For instance, an enemy that is wet is weaker against cold and lighting spells. In picture 8 I threw bottle of water at a mammoth. I did not use element scar but the damage between my magic storm and ice ball was still significant. My ice ball level, lv 771, is lower than magic storm, lv 848.. Magic storm did around 60k while my ice ball spell did around 90k damage. I did not have any gasoline on hand but that would be the item to increase fire damage. So all in all, I would not ignore elemental damage spells.

Another piece of advice: Water enhances cold damage even more than it does lightning. Elemental scar + wet + ice bolt + slow + rampage is how I kickes Meshera-chan's ass because I simply outdamaged her super regen every turn.
In fact I can deal the most damage out of anybody in my party even though I'm the healer and debuffer.
Actually, I think I'm going to teach my nymph to use water bolt and elemental scar and see what happens.

So far the only thing I see increase in number that I can measure easily is that it lasts longer.

I never understood putting arbitrary limits on customization options, especially when the basis of it is random people triggering OCDs by not playing the way they want them to.
