There was something truly magical about 70s/80s Japanese music, well music in general really, there's a ton of good stuff from back then from all over the world.
The second and third ones aren't j-pop, sorry, just a couple other old Japanese albums I like.

It was the time when synthesizers were implemented for the first time. Before, all music was just classic instruments or string based. The invention of electronic sound was used sparingly and creatively because people experimented with it to enhance their compositions, instead of fully relying on it. This made for a highly creative, playful and original musical creation. The human eye and ear has a fascinating ability to sense anything uncanny and artificial.

It's ironic though, because it was the beginning of what we see today. Mainstream hits being literally strung out of computer programs and artificially tuned voices.

It's super 80s shit, but I kinda like Show-Ya. There were really great for an all female metal band. I'd give anything for a torrent or DL of their stuff, because it is hard to get anything in decent quality these days.

Used to listen to this guy all the time over the radio way back in the '94 when I was working in Gifu as an ALT.
Was pretty cool because they played his music back in Hawaii as well when I left Japan
Funny thing, I didn't know his last name up until now and for some reason never bothered to look him up. Funny how it all turned out.

Well to be fair its a theme from a movie about Brits in WW2 japanese prison camps. So thats where the Christmas thing comes from. It's a good movie that I high recommend and Sakamoto not only did the score for the movie but also was an actor in it.
