I would also like to suggest making your own clothes for dolls. If you all would like, I can find the links to scans of doll patterns. Dollfie Dreams are very popular, so they are almost always featured in doll mooks.

If you don't have a Pinterest account, I recommend making one. You can find many issues of Dollybird/Dolly Dolly/etc. just by searching "doll book free copy" there.

You don't need a sewing machine to sew for dolls (I would actually recommend not using one at all because of the small pieces you'll be sewing), and you can easily get by using fabric remnants on clearance. Sewing for dolls is very cheap and very satisfying.

This is a heart apron pattern. You will likely need to resize it unless you're sewing for a 1/6 doll.

Fray check will stop your fabric from unraveling. I would say you can also use nail polish top coat, but that might react badly with a DD. It works for people, though!

I'm another unsuccesful tailor wannabe, but I discovered that since DDs have crazy proportions it would only work for something stretchy and big with enough space for their boobs (it's easier with MDDs but they have wide hips instead, so my spats attempt failed miserably).
You can try finding some software that adjusts basic patterns based on measurements, it's usually bundled with those fancy human pattern magazines but there are torrents too (I tried that for a tshirt and the scale was nice, fucked up severely on the actual sewing though).
The best bet is to find ready-made DD patterns in Dollybird and such, there was a blog post somewhere listing all issues with DD patterns and some scans can be found in google drive archive (it used to be in the OP of /toy/s BJD thread).

Fabric softener and water in a spray bottle I mostly use for combing/maintaining the wig. For styling I don't think it's really helpful, doesn't hold at all. I just bought wig wax and it's cheap and goes a super long way.

My Hotaru has a 25cm body currently like on the right, but the new 24cm is very cute, though very different, see center.

A couple of the doll people I follow on Instagram have that 24CM body! One person rebodied their Pure Neemo and another rebodied a head I couldn't identify. I think it was just an Obitsu head with a custom faceup, though.

Obitsu always has such horrible photos. I didn't actually want the body myself until I saw other photos of it. It's very pretty and very poseable.

The body is inexpensive, too, so I'd get it. The 25cm body is pretty, but it's very fashion body as opposed to the 24cm's more realistic look. I hope that made some sense. Worst case scenario, you decide you like the old look more and you either buy a new head or sell the body. Not a huge loss.

Did some more styling until I can find wig wax. Also finally bought a skirt/tights for her so now she's not going naked underneath. (though she's commando under the coat because otherwise it won't fit)

Those of you with both volks and choo girls, how do the bodies compare quality wise? Dollfiedreams always seem to have issues, DDS and early DDIIIs had weak shoulder joints and cracking issues, and 1st gen MDDs couldn't hold poses for shit. Any quality issues with Danny's dolls? Are the clothes interchangeable?

The main quality issue with Choosluts is their shitty sculpts. This is entirely subjective, but generally their heads look good from fewer angles than DD sculpts tend to, and the larger bust sizes look retarded because Choo is a degenerate. The "small" bust is plenty large, though.

I have a Smartdoll Cheetos as well as multiple DD dolls. Smartdoll bodies feels hard, almost brittle compared to DD bodies. The one exception is the bust which is pretty soft. Smartdoll knees only bend 90 degrees, they are lighter and have a mount point for a stand in the back. You can get them in more color variations than DD bodies, you have to be really lucky or persistent at this point to get a tan DD.

I'm assuming you're referring to the economies of scale where the more you manufacture of one item the costs are spread out over a larger quantity of units. More = cheaper, right?

Not quite. You also have to remember that there are components that still require manual labor. People need to paint faces, style wigs, and feed patterns through sewing machines. So in addition to machines popping out parts, you need skilled manpower to make the rest of the doll.

The problem with mixed manufacturing is there's a limit to how much the machines make before the parts requiring manpower can keep up. If you rush the manned tasks to keep up quality will suffer. If you expand the (skilled) manpower you begin negate the cost savings of scaling.

Volks has been faced with balancing quality over quantity and they chose quality to maintain the product's status as a luxury item. They've done mass orders before (Saber, Miku) and if the wait times were any indicator, it was that their resources were strained.

tl;dr they keep the numbers down to manage volume and pass the costs down to us.

For low numbers like for accessories they probably use a cheaper grade metal mold. It's more accurate and lasts longer than casting and molding but doesn't have to last as long as the bigger runs they use for things like common parts and internal frames.

They come with 50cm Obitsu bodies, which are a bit smaller than DD bodies. You'll usually have to shop/sew for them separately from your DD girls. Their newer doll bodies are called AZO2, but they're still 50cm Obitsus just with a different shell.

Actually, I guess I'm not sure how the AZO2 measurements compare to DD measurements. Maybe more of their clothing is cross-compatible now.
