And you can always find people who will buy it because superstitious folks are dime a dozen. It's not like Gensokyo is the only youkai paradise in the entire world, if you're an outsider you can just go to a remote village and do your local boogieman act there or start your own cargo cult on some small island.

It's really not symbiotic, the humans are on forced life support, and to say that the humans rely entirely on the youkai is pretty far fetched. Human society has always been burdened with natural catastrophes but they always overcome. The youkai are intentionally stifling them to not let them expand. Because there was a fucking lot of humans across the world so one village getting destroyed by a typhoon or something didn't matter since the entire species would survive. We know there are plenty of "lost civilizations" in history, but humans are so numerous that it doesn't mean global society is wiped out.

Gensokyo has one village. If Gensokyo's village is destroyed by an earthquake or something, that's it, it's done, Yukari would have to go farm humans from the outside again.

You underestimate Human Tenacity

Even if the Youkai vanished, Gensokyo would still survive as a barrier from the Outsider World if only to keep the fairies and extinct animals like the Japanese Wolf inside, but the Human Village would succumb to famine and disease without supernatural aid.

If for some reason the barrier fell anyway, the Human Village would be annexed because Japan really, really needs land to develop and won't take "no" for an answer, especially if they learn that Gensokyo is privy to hihiirokane which in essence functions as a clean limitless source of power.

Because in Gensokyo technological progress is currently seen as a gift from the gods, particularly Kanako. That's Kanako's major plan, to make technology and modernization seem like a holy gift. Kappa tech is so far out of the realm of possibility for the humans in the village that it makes sense for them to regard it as the supernatural. The Kappa are using the technology to increase faith in themselves and increase their own influence within Gensokyo. They're not too happy about it being seen as a gift from Kanako.

As for why Yukari hasn't stepped in, Yukari seems content to let all the different factions attempt to play chess with each other because they all are attempting to check each other so no one faction gets too powerful.

Humans and youkai can coexist if there was an attempt on both sides. Remove the specific names, and all you get are a group of people vs another group of people. It's not different from the conflicts of the current world. Humans distrust each other too and Youkai are capable of hating one another as well. I think people have the ability to compromise if they start acknowledging that everyone feels the same as they do.

If someone is capable of love, then I believe they are a person. Whether they are "human" or "youkai," I believe they are a person. If they desire to love and be loved, then they are a person. True monsters are those who have forsaken love, choosing not to understand anyone. They hurt others just to take. They hurt others just to destroy. Both humans and youkai are capable of such a thing. They are equal in both love and hate.

If both people surrender themselves to love, then there can be understanding. With understanding comes a willingness to apologize and forgive. And with forgiveness, the opportunity to accept one another arises. And once two people have accepted each other, then love will surely flourish.

There is no need for fear and misunderstanding.
