I used Waifux2 on this image to enlarge it and cropped out the result. It came out better than expected. I suppose I could try doing the same with the original sprites to make them a more manageable size, but that still leaves issues like imitating the artstyle to deal with. It sometimes uses words like "motherfucking" in completely inappropiate places and ends up sounding ridiculous. I think even the golden witch Beatrice uses it once. The word "fucking" is used way too often to emphasize things, even when it makes the line sound cringy.

The scene where Ange jumps from the skyscraper has no music because the game cuts to a credits screen beforehand and plays the entire song by itself.

The "Rokkenjima suspicion" is translated as the groan-worthy "Rokkenjimagate".

Battler's catchphrase has been translated in a really awkward way even though the old translation is already iconic.

These are the problems I noticed by watching around 10 videos by Narnith. I'm glad he's playing the old version of Chiru because Mangagamer's version isn't out yet.

Pachinko apologist here. I think the sprites are okay, or at least they're not as bad as everyone gives them crap for. Battler's skin tone looks weird, but it's actually closer to his original sprite's than the PS3 one was. The faces definitely leave much to be desired, but I think that's mostly due to them trying to replicate Ryukishi's iconic expressions, which I can appreciate even if they did fail pretty badly. All in all, I enjoyed seeing yet another artstyle's rendition of my beloved characters, even if I'd never actually choose to use them in the game.

Maybe Mangagamer is offering two different translations and all the new players are using the default one without realizing that it's bad. That could be it.

KnownNoMores version of Rosatrice is questionable in a couple ways, but I do think that those things can be improved upon to the point where it makes just as much sense from a narrative standpoint as it does from a logical one, and if anyone presented that kind of theory to me after reading the VN, and they understood and rejected Shkanontrice, I would not be mad at them.

If you only look at the VNs there are many solutions of varying closeness to the source material that could exist in parallel in the catbox of Rokkenjima. It's different if you consider the manga ofc.

Also, K1, Mion and Rena had their ages listed as XX, while Satoko's age was stated to be X in the article/report or whatever. A single digit. That means she's around 11 in 1983. Still a minor. That X is actually proof that she's a preteen loli, so it's obvious that he wasn't trying to dodge the censors.

I bet he just wanted to prevent a logic error. Saying that she was X years old at the time the article was written, rather than a specific age, makes it easier for him to avoid contradictions. In the end it doesn't really matter, though. He did it just in case.

This has always just seemed like mental gymnastics to me.

Since DID doesn't make sense what with the fact that Yasu is able to use different personalities to work toward a single goal, Shannon and Kanon exist not because they are separate personalities, but because they fulfill the role of Kanon and Shanon, and in the same way the fact that they perform their duties as servants is enough to classify them as such. Sure, on top of being servants, they are also Kinzos heir and the true master of Rokkenjima, but the new attribute doesn't override the old one.

Are Shannon and Kanon's discussions and their duel in EP6 just magic bullshit? I mean, the fact that they can even interact with each other is obviously magic bullshit. But I'm referring to their motivations and knowledge.

Since the very beginning of the episode, they keep talking about how the "winner" will be blessed with miracle, enjoy their relationship while it lasts and forget about the other. If Shannon wins, she will leave the island with George and completely forget about the whole idea of being a man. If Kanon wins, he will love Jessica and "treasure" Shannon (obviously he can't simply forget all the years he spent being a girl).

But what the fuck is the butterfly brooch that can make a miracle happen? If I remember correctly, it was a good luck charm that she used to gain confidence and start a relationship with George even though she was a lowly servant. But after learning about her past and developing the gender issues, she gave it to Kanon. And he broke it in a fit of anger because no amount of self confidence would make him feel like a man inside or restore his dick.

This is apparently the reason Shannon also needs the butterfly brooch in 1986. She used it to gain confidence and start dating George in the past. She thought she didn't need it anymore, now that she was in a relationship with him. But after all the shit that happened, she needs it again, and she needs a real miracle. Is this miracle supposed to be "George accepting the real Sayo"? Or is she somehow hoping she can trick George for all eternity?

Now that I think of it... Do all the scenes in EP2 where the butterfly brooch appears happen after Sayo solved the epitath? Or do they happen before that? Because that would change everything quite a bit. Does Shannon innocently start dating George so she can forget about Battler? Or is she giving herself the right to date a human even though she already knows the truth?

What I don't understand is why these characters want to win the duel, find love and hope for the "miracle" of their partners accepting the real Sayo/Yoshiya when they know that Beatrice will kill everyone that night.

I mean, is the narrative in EP6 just treating Shannon and Kanon as their own characters separate from Beatrice? Is that why they don't seem to be aware of the fact that the duel is pointless and the "miracle" will never have a chance of happening because they are all going to die?

I guess it makes sense that they are all treated as different characters, rather than a single person talking to themselves. Beatrice always wins in the end, and she plans to kill everyone and open the door to the "golden land". Shannon and Kanon can never defeat Beatrice, because Yasu is completely hopeless and doesn't believe in their miracles. But the narrative still needs to portray Shannon and Kanon as though they have hope and don't know about the crime.

I never got why Shannon and Kanon were hoping for the miracle of being loved despite their physical condition, or why they had a duel to decide which gender would win, because Beatrice would kill them all anyway. Why would a person who has lost all hope and is planning to end everything that night even bother deciding which gender they want to be, think about the future and hope to be accepted?

Then I finally got it. The narrative has always been portraying Shannon, Kanon and Beatrice as separate characters. Shannon and Kanon know that their relationships won't succeed without a miracle. And they know that one of them has to be sacrificed so the other can have a complete soul and be able to love, because furniture have incomplete souls. The real person behind them has simply abandoned all hope and doesn't believe a miracle could happen.

I don't know why I didn't realize this sooner. Pay attention to the fight scenes. On a first read you think that there is no rhyme or reason to them and Ryukishi is just fucking with you, (that's what I thought at least), but on a reread you realize that those scenes are much more important than you realized at first.
