If by break a combo you mean something like GGXX's burst, the only choice is doing that magic circuit blow by pressing A+B+C while getting it. Only works in blood heat if I recall right.

Otherwise it's just knowing when to guard and reading moves for openings. Just takes practice. Don't get discouraged by the pricks here, quite a few of us are willing to help others. At least, the few I saw were...

I mean just the run of the mill, getting your ass kicked in mid-air and being juggled around. A good player is easily able to kick me into the air, kick my ass a few times, throw me down, and run down and trip me + do it again without me really being able to stop it. I assume there's a way to actually block the attack (probably when I'm getting up from the ground) but I'm guessing my timing is off or I don't actually know what I'm supposed to do in that situation besides LOL 4444444444

I think my main problem is being unable to actually pull off a move when I want to. I'm using a PS2 controller and I can't actually dash without switching to the d-pad, and I can't do any combos without switching back to analog. So I've been gimpily swirling the analog stick around in the vague direction of the move I actually want to do, but failing and doing another move that is obviously ineffective and leaves me wide open for another beatdown. I can't use a lot of characters because I can't accurately do the 623 input correctly.

tl;dr I fail. It's pretty funny to watch the other player switch to random ass characters they obviously don't use as well as their main character, just to see how bad they have to play for me to actually beat them.

the trick to doing inputs with the dpad is to put your thumb directly in the middle, and roll it in the direction. The ps2's analog stick is HORRIBLE for fightan (my personal opinion on the best analog for fightan is original xbox, the smaller version. Followed by 360's. Original Xbox's is very responsive and isn't insanely loose like ps2's)

I myself am stuck with a ps2 controller for now, and it takes some getting used to the dpad. Just practice, you should get the hang of it.

Has the patching + netplay instructions.

I find the easiest way to get this in English is to mount the ISO, install in Japanese, patch, add netplay, and then English patch on top of all of that. If you use the English patcher first it makes its own arbitrarily named folder and you have to do a few extra steps for the 1.03 patch to find it.

Still, combos are kind of necessary for there to be good players. Combos reward players that are willing to spend the time discovering and practicing them.
