I'd love to have Aizu-Wakamatsu representation in the team, but it's never got the necessary amount of votes in the polls we've done. Next poll should happen before the Summer Cup, which will probably be in August, so keep an eye out for banners around then.

I love the way Japanese rail looks like through videos. This is my first time visiting /jp/ and I didn't realize there'd be a rail thread here.

I'd love to visit there someday. It would be great to work there, but it is unlikely that I would be able to find a job there as an American.

This is actually just down the line from our old Aizu-Wakamatsu station, but unfortunately the trains terminate a couple of stations before Aizu. I think it's a nice station, but like Bessho, it's very slow, with a train roughly every 30 minutes or so. It's a constant stream with decent quality, but no sound. It also gets very dark at nights. The trees alongside the tracks are apparently cherry, so it might be worthwhile dropping by during sakura season for the view, but I think Bessho is a better stream.

A sad fact is that most things outside of the Tokaido Corridor is in decline, and even then the country as a whole is seeing slight population decline in recent years.
My favourite part of Japan is the back-country, since it resembles the quaintness of where I grew up, and has lots of natural beauty. One day I'd just love to get into a train, and ride through the countryside or up north around Hokkaido (which alone is twice the size of the country I live in now). I can't count how many hours I've spent on Google Earth just plucking down the streetview in some random area out in the boonies, and just exploring around, amazed by the natural beauty of the mountains or the fields or the rivers.

Anyway, I don't definitely want to say the shutdown of the webcam is because of the decline in daily ridership, but if it is I worry about the future of the railways. How much longer until more and more lines start getting discontinued because no one rides them, or it's just impractical to keep them going? That'd be really sad.

If you just look at any video taken in Shibuya, Roppongi or even Shinjuku, basically near any major area you'll see a bunch of blacks or darker skinned in the background, along with whites every now and then. A permanent visa is harder than a lot of western countries but not impossible, it mostly involves staying for a long time on another visa (often a spouse visa) in the first place. Not many people want citizenship since the requirements are steeper and it's (in theory if not practice) exclusive.

Also Shibuya and Roppongi (and Akiba) have more foreigners comparatively, but they're not at all representative of the greater Tokyo metropolitan area, not to mention the rest of Japan.

I'm having such a hard time believing the stream has come to an end. How long have these threads been going on for again? I swear I remember seeing them in 2009 or early 2010, maybe earlier. My memory is bad now. There was something comforting in seeing the same station everyday though. It was another day as usual. Even if things weren't going so well elsewhere, Aizu was always here. Let's continue its legacy with new streams and making new fond memories to look back on.

Yeah, their average adult life is not very glamorous. I do not envy the salary life at all. What's even worse is if you're a temp or unstable part time worker with little to no training or education. I think Japan is one of the worst modern countries to be financially unstable in. Also, their future economic outlook is not making anything look better. I have just read a Japanese report that said some workers are demonstrating that the government shall raise the minimum wage to 1500 Yen per hour. Many people think that is unrealistically high. However a comment said that a 1500 Yen/hour job is high-paying, but if you multiply that by 8 hours a day and 20 days a month, 240k Yen/month seems pretty normal, and if you multiply it by 12, 2.88M Yen/year seems poorly low, and another commentor pointed out that such conceptual difference is because of overtime compensation and yearly bonus, which normal workers have already get accustomed to as part of their salary but part time workers does not enjoy. Other commemtors also pointed out that 1000 yen/hour might seems sufficient for a high school student but 1500 is about the minimal level that can support the life of an adult in society

Yeah it was organic as far as I'm aware.

Basically before the /jp/-/a/ split, old school /a/ used to have live webcam threads, nicodouga threads and of course 2hu threads. And from the webcam threads this Aizu camera was the most prominent and so when the other cameras died and after the 2 boards split, this Aizu cam eventually and organically got its own thread - and became dedicated over time with more and more regular posters. All the more reason its so sad this has ended. Literally /jp/ history with old school /a/ roots. Plus I think the fact that densha otakudom is the most "dangerous" and stereotypical had something to do with it. Pic related.

Stereotypes are bad anon. All otaku have their group of socially incompetent individuals with character traits resembling borderline autism.

The guy who organizes/runs the Tadami-sen viewing/drinking trips rides the line over 100 times a year, keeps handwritten notes of the trains, has massive printed books of all the train schedules in the prefecture but doesn't fit that stereotype at all.

I'm not really into trains THAT much, but I find smaller trains that go around the countryside to be very charming. The comfy feelings that I get from the cams is why I tune in from time to time primarily, but having some trains around adds a very special atmosphere. You almost start to wait for a train to arrive after some time. When it comes, there is an odd sense of excitement.

The latter for me, but I also have enjoyed picking up on the knowledge of the train experts. I've gained a lot of respect for the old machines as well. The conversations are interesting to follow even if I don't really understand. Fandom is the same no matter what the topic (Bakuon!! comes to mind) so just seeing people passionate about it adds to the whole experience in a way, like looking through a portal into another world and culture.
