Not that Anon but I'm starting to get into this.

First I'm going to go over the major contradictions I noticed in the first twilight.

Right off the bat we have both Natsuhi and Genji claiming that the body's were not misidentified, at least Shannon and Kanon's corpses weren't. We know that's not the case however, since the two of them share the same body.

Something else that bugged me ever since I read it over when it was first posted... Krauss and Rosa said that the siblings (Or every known living member of the family) were stationed in the same room until 9:00. However Rudolf tells a different story. He was with Kyrie all night.

I don't think that's a coincidence!

Looks to me like they discovered the gold at night.
Eva and the rest noticed the gold later on, meaning it was already discovered.
Rudolf and Kyrie faked their deaths, they were only seen from a distance. They're alive in the end, thus complying with all the rules OP set.

>> No.16763872

/RED/ Kyrie and Rudolf Ushiromiya are not culprits. Furthermore, they did not find the hidden gold.

>> No.16763877

>>16763840
Hm... I think there's one flaw in that logic. OP made a point of agreeing that something Natsuhi said was untrue, what with saying that none of the bodies were misidentified. Natsuhi herself might have something to do with this.

>> No.16763917

Hmmm...Nanjo is lying. He's an accomplice. Krauss and Natsuhi aren't dead. They appeared to be shot is all it says. Getting some blood down the window isn't hard at all either, one of them could've cut themselves and let the blood spill to make it look like someone got away.
Nanjo "confirmed" their deaths, then when Kyrie and Rudolf went to seal the rooms with duct tape, Krauss and Natsuhi attacked them.

>> No.16763936

>>16763917
An interesting theory... however, I would like to remind you of the definition of an accomplice in my game: they can help the culprits, but they must speak truth in purple. In order for Nanjo to lie, he would need to commit murder.

I still hold to my Krauss/Natsuhi theory. The only thing working against me is Nanjo, but if he did kill someone somewhere down the line the theory still holds true. Just need to narrow down who he killed.

Ah of course. Nanjo killed Genji. That's why Genji has much more blood on him. Nanjo used the washcloth to dip some of Genji's blood over his own throat, which he only cut slightly, not enough to kill himself. He then set the scene. This works with every rule.

The culprits are Krauss and Natsuhi, and Nanjo is an accomplice, who also commited murder, so is able to lie with the purple truth.

Has anyone here played Tragedy Looper? It's basically Umineko: The Board Game.

I'm working a custom re-theme of the game to use Umineko characters and locations, as well as an Umineko tragedy set. This what I'm testing so far. It's an intro set like the "First Steps" tragedy set that comes with the game, since I feel like there's already enough "advanced" content for the game. Somehow it ended up being a bit EP5 themed, since that's my favorite episode.

>all people care about is the truth, like goats really.
Honestly, that's true for a lot of gameboards as well. I read a lot of games where people really were only obsessed with making them as complex as possible in terms of who and how. People forget about the why, which is ironic since it's the most important part of a mystery. A reader can accept fantastical murder methods and complicated alibis, but give them a weak motive and they're going to be disappointed. That's why I hate "they were bribed" or "they did it for the gold" as motives in Umineko. It lets the writer be lazy and treat every character the same, since it can be applied across the board.

Agreed. One of the earlier game boards I made was all about a secret romance between Natsuhi and Gohda. But nobody gave a crap. They just wanted answers to the locked rooms. I kept saying "without love it cannot be seen".

That's interesting. Personally I hate Gohda as a character: he has zero characterization throughout the whole series, and also is the only person on the island with no connection to the Ushiromiya family at all (except Erika, but she has a purpose). I think Ryukishi could have left him out of the story and there wouldn't be a difference. Cool that you were able to give him a proper motive, especially when many just use him in stories because ((((no one would ever guess)))).

By one-off mysteries, do you mean a singular puzzle, like a lone locked room to solve? If you have one, I would be interested in reading it. If want to share one with me, that is.

I'm lost on the motive and exactly who the culprits are. So I'll be a goat and focus on how the murders were done for now. But please don't give me any big hints on the motive for now, though. I really want to solve it on my own.

This feels too obvious to be correct, but Rudolf and Kyrie might have faked their to deaths to escape the murders. Then you would just need one hidden culprit to survive, and one to kill Nanjo and Genji.
And to get around the one kill red truth, the culprit could have forced Nanjo to kill Genji, told him to wash their hands, then killed him. This also would explain why Nanjo is a culprit.
Rosa probably lied in purple in the first twilight. "no one here would kill a child unprovoked"
It is possible that Yasu started the first twilight by killing Jessica. Then Rosa could interrupt them and perform the other murders. The epitaph solver would then place Kinzo in the furnance and mutilate the corpses. Or maybe Rosa is the epitaph solver, and Gohda or Kumasawa betrayed Yasu and did the majority of the first twilight.

Also, what the hell? Krauss and everybody talked about the inheritance in the boiler room?

I'll get started with the red truths relevant to my theory now.
If Rosa kills a culprit in self defense, does that make her a culprit as well? Or maybe she was certain that an innocent person X was the murderer, and incorrectly killed them.
They say Kyrie and Rudolf are capable of overpowering a single culprit in a life or death fight. But it's perfectly possible that they ran into a culprit and didn't bother fighting. Maybe the culprit had some reason to not kill them, and told them to fake their deaths instead.
It's still possible that Nanjo killed Genji, started cleaning himself to get rid of evidence, then was murdered by Hideyoshi. He's the only one without an alibi or red truth proclaiming his innocence in the guest house.

Rosa was pushed out of the window in the second twilight and brutally hit her head on the ground. Gohda and Kumasawa were killed and staked by Yasu before the first twilight. The epitaph solver moved all the corpses there and staked Rosa's corpse so it would fit with the murder game.

The only ones left who could have moved are the servants who were still alive and connected to Yasu's plan, Nanjo and/or Genji. The only time they could have placed the bodies there was before the second twilight was discovered.

First twilight. Yasu placed Kinzo in the furnace and killed George, Jessica, and Maria. It's already known that he wouldn't kill Battler, so there are two more culprits here besides him. Rosa might have killed Yasu in self defense here. But she wouldn't have mutilated the corpses. Maybe the epitaph solver or the servants did. No clue who killed Battler yet, but it probably wasn't anyone that was helping Yasu with the murder game.

/RED/ Yasu did not place Kinzo in the furnace

/RED/ in this world Yasu would and could kill Battler. she is more focused on tormenting the adults than creating a "solvable" murder mystery.

/RED/ Rosa did not kill Yasu. In fact, Rosa did not kill because she thought her victim was a culprit. The person Rosa killed did not try to provoke or attack her in any way.

/RED/ There are 5 culprits in this game.

How do you like my red, little detective?

>> No.16774155

>>16774028
The last one makes things a lot easier! It's good to have a precise number.
So, Natsuhi, Yasu, Rosa, Nanjo, and the epitaph solver. You can knock the last one off and add a culprit X you assume Natsuhi solved the epitaph.
This would mean six kills by Yasu and four by the others with the one kill rule. But this doesn't add up right now, does it? There are only five survivors. This means either Nanjo must have committed suicide.
Nanjo has access to the study. It's very possible he placed Kinzo in the furnace. Genji, too. You don't have to be a culprit to move a corpse.
It is already known Rosa died during the second twilight. While Krauss was asleep he was shot and killed by Rosa. Natsuhi kills Rosa by pushing her out of the window. Then all that has to be done is to place the gun outside.
Yasu killed all of the cousins, only to get killed by Culprit X before getting to set up the twilight. Natsuhi found the corpses before anyone else, and set it up in a way that fits the murder game. The servants probably helped her with that.
Culprit X is probably Hideyoshi. Natsuhi is the hidden survivor.

>> No.16774178

>>16774155
You are SO close to the truth. I also typed up the whole truth of the game, so you'll get a little story as a reward. Now:

/RED/ as I said before, Natsuhi did not move the corpses

/RED/ Rosa did not murder Krauss intentionally

/RED/ Hideyoshi is not a culprit

Who murdered Kumasawa and Gohda, and why? The answer should be obvious once you know who killed them.

>> No.16774218

>>16774178
Then culprit X is Genji. He moved the corpses. Maybe with help with Nanjo.
Rosa does have bad trigger discipline. The gun could have gone off accidentally and shot through the wall, but that's a cheap answer. I don't really have a good idea here.
It's already known that Yasu killed them. Maybe they tried to run off with the money they were given? Or simply as part of the murder game.

>> No.16774232

>>16774218

Aw, think about the first twilight. Yasu died. do you really think she meant for that to happen? But of course, she was planning to have a first twilight... I don't want to just give this one to you.

/RED/ Your "culprit x" is in fact Genji.

Really, I wouldn't think too hard about Rosa murdering. think about what happened at the tea party of EP7, and why a similar situation could arise. Also, remember:

/RED/ No murder in this game was committed out of greed.

>> No.16774263

>>16774232
I think I get it. Obviously the cousins deaths were all intentionally done by Yasu and took place first. Yasu was probably going to kill Gohda or Kumasawa for the first twilight too. But the servants actually fought back, killing Yasu and losing Gohda and Kumasawa. Alternatively, the servants knew Natsuhi had solved the epitaph and wanted the game to end, but Yasu wanted for it to continue. Then the same fight broke out.

The last Twilight is easy now. Nanjo killed Genji, washed his hands, placed the items in the bowl outside, then killed himself with by holding a razorblade through the washcloth. You only have a few seconds to do anything with a cut throat, but that's enough time to put the washcloth in the sink.

Rosa knew Natsuhi solved the epitaph. She was going to her room to confront her about it. Krauss's death was an accident, so it doesn't count as being from greed. Natsuhi freaked out about Krauss being dead and killed Rosa.

Not sure what you mean by no tricks, but I'll give this a shot anyway. There's still a method for Nanjo. If your artery if cut, you can just keep it pinched to prevent bleeding and passing out. Nanjo cut only one side of his carotid arteries, kept it pinched through the washcloth, and placed the items outside. When he was done he quickly threw the washcloth into the sink and died.

It's perfectly rational for Rosa to think that Natsuhi would be a bad person after overhearing that. If Rosa takes aim to kill Natsuhi, but instead hits Krauss, is that an accident? Natsuhi found the bomb along with the gold. Genji and Nanjo teamed up with her and told her the truth sometime before the Second Twilight and after Yasu died. She was telling Krauss about the truth, bomb, and everything else.
Nanjo and Genji killed themselves as the last part of the fake murder gameboard. The whole point of which was to prevent suspicion from falling upon any Ushiromiya family members. It would be terrible if any of them were given an incorrect life sentence after escaping a bomb and murderer.

I still have no idea why Rudolf and Kyrie faked their deaths. Maybe something to do with getting away from the other survivors. Or some sort of plan to escape the bomb, if they did find it too.
Natsuhi was knocking on the door to tell Hideyoshi and Eva about the bomb.

If this is all wrong, just reveal it.

Hmm, you were a little off, but you did really well overall. Thanks for playing my game! I hope I wasn't too bad of a game master, this was my first time. Here's the truth:

On the night of the murders, Natsuhi was having a particularly awful headache, no doubt brought on by the bickering of the siblings over the inheritance. She wandered the mansion aimlessly, until she came upon the witch’s portrait. Looking at the epitaph, she realized hint x, and solved the epitaph. She then located and opened the VIP room with the mountain of gold.

Returning to the mansion, she looked for a servant she trusted to confide in, fearing the family's reaction to the news. She came across the dining room, and saw something truly horribly. Jessica, George, Battler, Maria, Kumasawa and Gohda were slumped over in chairs around the table, with have-drank tea cups in front of them. Shannon, Genji and Nanjo stood in the room. Shannon held a gun.

Shannon quickly pointed the gun at Natsuhi, and threatened to kill her. Suspecting this had something to do with the letter that the family had been read at dinner, Natsuhi revealed that she had solved the epitaph and found the gold. Shannon immediately dropped her gun and fell the the floor, in awe and anguish over this news. She realized, in that moment, that she had likely killed the cousins and servants she cared about so much mere moments after the gold was discovered. Natsuhi took this moment to steal away Shannon’s gun and bash her over the head with it, knocking Shannon out.

Horrified by the current state of affairs, Natsuhi threatens to tell the family about the murders and have everyone present arrested. Genji counters by saying that if she says anything about the murders, they will reveal the truth about kinzo, and find a way to implicate her in the murders as well. Genji lies to Natsuhi and says that she killed Shannon, further implicating her into the murders. He explains everything about the murder games, including the bomb which he has no idea how to shut off. He proposes that they follow through with the murders of the first two twilights (since they have the bodies) and then get the family to flee the mansion to Kuwadorian to avoid the bomb, which would destroy the evidence, under the guise of it being “safer”, since there would be no chance of her being implicated. Of course, it also meant that Yasu’s secret would be safe. She agrees, believing that they can blame the murders on someone like Kinzo, and so Genji hides Kumasawa and Gohda in the kitchen pantry, and then creates the murders of the first twilight by sawing up the bodies and putting Kinzo in the furnace as a decoy.

The next morning, the bodies are found the the group moves to the parlor to discuss their next action. Krauss and Natsuhi pretend to move to a guest room to avoid the sibling’s bickering, since she needs to inform him of the truth so the existence of Kuwadorian does not seem a surprise to him when Genji recommends they flee there after the second twilight. However, Rosa retrieves a rifle from Kinzo’s armory, and follows them, and then listens to them talk. She mistakes Natsuhi as confessing to the murders, and bursts into the room. She threatens both of them, and everyone starts yelling. Krauss moves in between Rosa and Natsuhi at a particularly tense moment, and Rosa accidentally fires the rifle. Krauss is killed, and Rosa drops the rifle in shock. Natsuhi, in a fit of insane rage, grabs Rosa and forces her out the window. Rosa falls to her death, splattering her head against the hard ground.

Genji, who attempted to follow Natsuhi but had to hide from Rosa, sees Rosa fall. He moves Rosa’s body to the Pantry and sets up the room as a twilight, unsure of what to do. He returns to the group to not arouse suspicion.

Meanwhile, Natsuhi deals with the scene of the second twilight. Sure that she will be pinned as the killer, she decides to fake her own death, coating herself in her husband’s blood and laying on the bed face down. She also threw Rosa’s gun outside the door and locked it, attempting to do as much as she could in a small time frame. Nanjo and Genji, unsure of the current plan, decide to not expose Natsuhi when they discover the body with the rest of the group.

After that, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th twilights are discovered. Natsuhi goes into hiding, since she’s not in her best mental state after committing murder. Kyrie and Rudolf purpose the plan to split up, sure that something is not right. Leaving the group, they reexamine all the rooms with corpses, and notice Natsuhi is missing. Sure that confronting her directly could result in drastic measures by both parties, they decide to fake both of their deaths in plain view to draw her out of hiding. They are sure that the others will be too scared to leave the guest house.

Natsuhi, horrified that Genji and Nanjo might have decided to continue the game, goes outside to investigate their corpses, and is restrained by Kyrie and Rudolf.

Nanjo and Genji, having seen Kyrie and Rudolf from the window, are horrified and sure that Natsuhi has gone completely insane and decided to kill everyone to cover up her own crimes. They also feel guilty for not coming clean earlier, but refuse to face Eva and Hideyoshi. They choose, instead of confessing their crimes, to commit suicide in a way that would look like a murder. Nanjo is trusted with the suicide, being a doctor, and decides to slit both of their throats. Nanjo wears gloves while doing so, and runs to burn the gloves in the fire. He keeps blood from getting everywhere (and himself from hemorrhaging) by putting the washcloth on his wound. He then places Genji’s master key and the razor outside the room to create the illusion of a murder. He locks the door from the inside and lays down in the bathroom.

Shortly after, Rudolf and Kyrie knock on the door of the guest house and Eva and Hideyoshi answer. They have Natsuhi with them. She explains the truth of the night, and is extremely distraught and unstable from the killings. She tells them to flee to Kuwadorian, as she has no idea how to turn the bomb off. She elects to stay at the mansion, as she feels responsible for killing Rosa and partially responsible for Nanjo and Genji’s deaths as well. The 4 adults escape to Kuwadorian and survive, and Natsuhi dies when the bomb explodes.

If I didn't answer everything, just ask, I can clarify. I wrote this while I was pretty tired, so I might not have said everything necessary.

Anyway, I'm going to bed. This has been a lot of fun!

Damn. I was going to post almost exactly that, before I changed it for being too silly.

I haven't participated in very many mysteries, but this was extremely good, with a nice difficulty to it. I got really engrossed into it really fast. Aside from two times, the fifteen-thirty minute periods between most of my posts was always me trying to come up with a theory or solution using the reds you gave me.
Time for criticism.
You do need to get better with your red truths, though. Even some of the purples regarding Rosa and the window made things too obvious. How quick you were to confirm people were and were not culprits in red and how theories were correct or incorrect are good examples.
And this is more of a personal thing, but you didn't try to attempt to trick or mislead me at all with the reds. I'm not sure about everyone else, but I feel like tricking the ones trying to solve it is a very important part of these things.
There were some good tricks with the purple, though. Like Kyrie and Rudolf's faked deaths feeling too obvious to really be fake, or the red herring saying that the injury on Rosa's head could have been done with a gun.

How much time did you spend coming up with it?

I see what you mean. going through the game with you, I saw a lot of places I could have been a bit more twisty, and I definitely think the purples were a little too easy in some places. I was going off bern's question for how to make a purple truth game, and honestly, her game was fairly straightforward once you understand the rules. I guess I was just really wanted to make it to be fair to the reader, and forgot how clever some people (like you) are. With Rudolf and Kyrie's deaths, i was kinda banking on the idea that no one would think a non culprit would fake their own death. The whole thing took me about 3 and a half hours to come up with and write out (1 and a half simmering on some ideas in bed at bight, and 2 actually writing it out the next morning), but honestly I had some of the ideas for it in my head already. Anyways, If I write another mystery at some point for these threads, I'll definitely focus more on trying to actually trick the reader, or at least have more red herrings, as well as being more detailed overall. I'm pleased by the result regardless.

This is true, I admit. I saw a mystery drama a few years ago about a group of friends meeting up in a villa in Spain and one of them suggested putting their cellphones in a safe box so they wouldn't get distracted and could just have a lads holiday. He was the only one who knew the combination to the safe.

He was then of course brutally murdered and the rest had no access to their cellphones.
So yes, it could be done if you're imaginative. The question is why you would go through that trouble if you want a setting without cellphones in the first place?

by the way, the first part of that song always reminds me of the intro to reunion and turnabout. I think it would make for a great background music for a prologue flash-forward to the moment of confrontation between detective and killer

>Funny, I always thought you had me figured out. Farewell, detective.

the tweest is that the detective shot the killer in self-defense, and you are investigation the crime he committed, only to be forced to shoot him in self-defense when you confront him. you're endlessly killing your past self after solving your own crime, stuck in an eternal causality loop.

The manga makes it clear that Battler found the wounded "Beatrice", saw through her disguise instantly and identified her as Shannon, after which she explained everything to him, and after he understood and forgave her, the scene plays out pretty much like in the VN.

Basically, she knew Battler loved her and would try his best to make her life happy, but she felt there was no way she could have or even deserved a happy future because of how fundamentally messed up she was, so she decided to die right there and then at her highest point of bliss.

>> No.16798145

I disagree. One somewhat major complain Higurashi has is that it's rather hard to tell who is saying what. VN, as a medium doesn't have '' ''XXXXX'', said Rena'' in its dialogue. It tends to use say the dialogue and associate it with a character sprite if it changes reaction face.
This flaw is very apparent in the first few chapters of Higurashi as Ryukishi is new at this. This was improved a lot in Umineko as Ryukishi added a lot more facial animation to the cast.

Another problem people have complained is that all the characters have the same 'voice'. This might simply be an issue with the english translation, as you could tell there was a difference in the french version. But regardless, when you add the voices, you can actually feel each character's personality through their line with their voices. This was improved a lot in Umineko as without even characters sprites, you can easily tell who is speaking.

Higurashi is better in every way by having the voices.

>Ryukishi07 himself has been talking to fans at 07th Expansion Party in Japan about the new title, offering little tidbits of info without giving too much away. Here's a rundown of some key points we were able to dig up from Twitter.

>The title gives too much away, so he wants to keep it a secret until just before it's released.
>The codename for the new When They Cry is 'The next ____'.
>The setting is not a closed circle but an open world.
>He is currently working on the feel of the world in order to develop the sub characters.
>Since it is a global story, foreign characters will likely appear.

The wording of this makes it sound like it's either going to take place in Japan again or at least most of the characters will be Japanese.

The open world part is also pretty interesting. It'd be pretty hard to make a mystery when the setting isn't a closed off area like Hinamizawa or Rokkenjima.

What does this mean? Is he referring to the setting of a rural village/remote island being dumped? He's going for a bigger world?

>Since it is a global story, foreign characters will likely appear.
Honestly not that excited by this. Sounds more RGD, less WTC. I don't mind foreign characters, but a global story? Just give me my snow lodge setting Ryu-chan.

I assumed what the tweets meant by that was that Ryukishi wasn't going for the time-loop story structure. Which kinda surprises me since that's pretty much a staple of a WTC title, but I guess once you've used that gimmick so much there's only so much you can do with it to keep it fresh, you know?

>> No.16801974

Shit, I really hope he keeps the loops. Otherwise it might as well just be a side project like RGD. I love WTC because of the time loops and suspense. If he gets rid of one of those, it's gonna be a vastly different experience.

Alright, here's a quick mystery since it's the weekend.

MYSTERY TIME

The siblings solve the epitaph and find the gold. In this kakera they finally all manage to work together and they split the gold evenly, they also didn't bring any of their children with them in this kakera. However, as they ship the gold bars out into a boat in the secret entrance (where Battler drowned in the original VN), they come across Yasu with a gun. She's intent on killing, feeling like everything went just a little bit too well and all her planning was for nothing. Krauss, Eva, Rudolf and Rosa were too quick for Yasu though and all four of them shot Yasu straight in the face and she stumbles down the stairs. She feebly tries to climb up the stone stairs that lead up to Kuwadorian but eventually stops, stone dead. All four Ushiromiya siblings walk up and confirm Yasu's death.

The siblings load as much gold as they can and disappear with the boat. After some business deals and corner cutting, they get a lot of money and split it up. After some weeks they decide to go back and get more of the gold, as it didn't all fit on the boat.
They put the boat back at the secret entrance but are horrified. Yasu is still lying dead on the stone stairs leading up to Kuwadorian. But somehow she's climbed five sets of stairs.
The siblings are sure of it. They wouldn't forget how the killed Yasu, they checked that she was dead, and knew where she was lying on the stairs when they left her. Yet somehow she's climbed five sets of stairs up to Kuwadorian, as if to go back to the gold and protect it from these murderous siblings.
Could Yasu's spirit really have brought her closer to the gold in order to protect it? How on earth did a dead body move five sets of stairs?

The fact that Satoko is 11 is just mindblowing! She's such a perfect girl, but she's actually a dumbass kid! She has so much pride and personality, but she's just a dumb preteen human! Pathetic! Lewd! Embarrassing! How can she live with herself?

Is Maria a canon sperg? The Higurashi kids and the Higanbana kids are just a couple years older than her, but they feel a lot more mature.

Honestly, Higurashi and Umineko were so fucking good that it's a miracle that a single person managed to write both.

I wish he would create something like that again, but it seems unlikely. I don't want him to fail and lose my respect. If the next WTC manages to live up to Higurashi and Umineko... Man, that would be fucking crazy.

But more than anything else, I want more Higanbana. Or something similar to it.

Maria reminds me of those eccentric geniuses you always hear about. She's way too smart and insightful for someone her age, yet at the same time can't seem to grasp social norms. I wouldn't be surprised if she's meant to have some form of mental disorder.

I love Higanbana. I don't love it as much as WTC, but there's something nostalgic about it... It captures the feeling of being a preteen kid perfectly. And the atmosphere is really fucking good, probably Ryukishi's best work in that sense. It's so heavy and oppressive. The art style fits perfectly with the dark setting. And the music is incredible once again.

It has a couple of god tier lolis too. You know who they are!

Don't get me wrong, but... Why are you even bothering with those ugly ass sprites instead of editing the original ones?

I don't know why, but I find Ryukishi's sprites (and only Ryukishi's) hot as fuck. Especially Jessica and Ange. It must be their facial expressions or something. It kills me to see all this wasted potential.

You don't seem to be adding pubes, though, so I'm not missing much. But still, what a waste.

There are a few reasons. For one thing, the lower resolution is troublesome to work with. For another, It feels less awkward lewding the pachinko sprites since I have less of an attachment to them. They also leave less to the imagination, making it easier to picture them nude. Last but not least, I'm not sure how well I'd be able to work with Ryukishi's artstyle. It's one thing to draw a generic female body, but intentionally trying to mimic something so stylized is more difficult than it seems.

I find them more attractive because they are the "real" appearances of the characters, while the updated portraits are just pretty redesigns.

Hell, I find Maria's original face more attractive for the same reason. She's not nearly as cute, but she's the real Maria for me. She even looks like an autistic kid, while the stylized Maria is slightly more generic.

It's like when you find a crappy hentai picture that mimics the original artstyle perfectly and find it hotter than a really sexy picture that makes the character look slightly different. The idea that the former could fit perfectly in the world of that anime/manga/VN makes it really hot. It feels "canon" somehow.

That must be the reason I find "that" scene in Higurashi Kira (the one where Rena is taking a bath and the audience can see her naked ass, while Rika and Satoko get to see her tits and hairy teenage pussy) more fappable than any doujinshi.

... Yeah. K1 would be proud of me.

>>16816304
I guess trying to get those sprites naked would make them look really disgusting. Satoko was hot because of the situation itself. She was running for her life and was forced to withstand the shame of being butt naked. But I doubt even Ryukishi himself could draw Jessica naked without her arms looking like gross human sausages.

The fact that we get to see Rena's butt crack in the anime is just mindblowing. She's such a serious and realistic character, but we get to see her embarrassing privates! She tries to act cute in front of everyone, but two of his friends (little girls!) saw her sexy naked body! Lewd! They'll always remember it everytime they see Rena!

The fact that we experienced her thoughts, emotions and personal problems in EP6 and got to know her as a friend is just mindblowing! She is like a friend, but we actually saw her ass! It was her canon ass, not just some hentai interpretation of it! The place she poops from! So pathetic and embarrassing! Rena should be ashamed of her human condition, ashamed of having an ass!

Why is it that showing a butt is ok while showing a pussy or even nipples is going too far? Are they aknowledging the fact that butts are not supposed to be sexually attractive? That they are just an embarrassing, pathetic, humiliating part of the human body? And yet, cute girls have them! Perfect, cute anime girls have butts! Lewd! The fact that anime girls can be humanized like that is simply mindblowing!

I get where you're coming from. Matching the original artstyle of a work definitely makes fanart more appealing. But the thing with Umineko is, it's characters have been drawn so many times by so many different artists that Ryukishi's sprites no longer feel like the only way to go. Even though I first played through the game using the original sprites, after several years of replaying with the PS3 sprites, reading each Episode's manga adaptation, playing the fighting game, and seeing the anime and pachinko adaptations, my image of an "official" artstyle has gradually become rather broad.

The way I see it, butts seem less sexually explicit because they're not something exclusive to either gender like genitals and breasts are. Censoring women's nipples is just a minimal way of censoring breasts.

I do see things like skinny Joji, skinny Ange and skinny Kinzo as the official designs, since they've been used everywhere. But I tend to prefer the original incarnation of a character over the others. Even when it comes to NES games, I imagine the characters based on their tiny, blocky sprites. I rarely imagine them or think of them as they look in official artwork.

I wonder if there's a relation between "Nomura" and Ikuko. They look similar and both of them are more powerful than the culprit of their respective stories. And Higurashi ends with "Nomura" reporting what happened to her superiors. It's feels really weird and out of place, as if she's more important to the overall Higurashi universe than it seems. We don't even know her real name. What if she's Featherine's "master" piece? The one she used to start the whole thing so she and Lambda could have their game?

I don't know, it feels as if the writer is bringing her up randomly at the very end for some reason.
