New paste, few corrections from the previous recent one:
http://pastebin.com/WGqBmfrw (embed)

This paste compiles information that was previously included in additional separate posts linked to OP. New section has also been added with all the train models seen at the station.

If there are corrections or adjustments to be made reply to OP.

In the future, there's a plan to transfer all the the info in the paste to a simple site so that it can be properly formatted and images/video can be added. The paste will be kept as well for those that prefer it and both will be updated.

The site does have like 18 cameras and a lot of them are very low quality, they might be thinking about getting rid of those older cameras.

I've had these threads open in a tab for something like two years now and it's been a constant source of comfy sights and sounds. I rarely posted, but checking out the great pictures and webms you guys post has been the most relaxing part of my daily routine.

When you think about it, isn't the whole idea of this little community built around watching this humble train station such an amazing and unique thing? I think that they'll really end all the streams of Fukushima no Mado Kara next month, so I wanted to make a video of these next few weeks of the train station and put it up somewhere as a memento just like the timelapses, but I can't find the proper software to do so.

ffmpeg -i mmsh://center3.ntt-fukushima.com/n-jraizu -c:v copy -c:a copy "jraizu.mkv"

Will record the stream as one continuous segment.

I record in 30 minute segments to make them easier to use and manage. 30 minutes is approximately 170MB so its just under the bar for most file locker sites.

@echo off
:loop
SET /A i = i + 1
ffmpeg -i mmsh://center3.ntt-fukushima.com/n-jraizu -c:v copy -c:a copy -t 1800 "jraizu-%i%.mkv"
TIMEOUT /T 2
goto :loop

There are the %date% and %time% variables that allows you to append the date and time to files but the variables behave differently depending on the user's setup. By default windows time isn't valid for filenames.

That's a windows batch file. Save it as <anything>.bat and run it.

I've been thinking, maybe the reason they're getting rid of the streams is that they rely on the silverlight plugin to work. Since silverlight is only supported in IE and Firefox now, it's becoming increasingly difficult to view them the "official" way. So maybe they figured the streams aren't worth keeping up if no one can view them? Is that likely?

I'm not sure if that's the case, but if it's anything financially related, then I imagine they could trash the other various cameras that I feel are not so much watched and keep the train station feed going. Fuck, it's really sad if they are gonna end it. I've been following this train station for a least 8 or 7 years and such has happened since then

I will really miss this place, no matter what happened to Fukushima the residents still live and use their train transportation to nearby areas. chances are their cost for running is flat rate so it doesn't really matter if the stream is up 12 or 24 hours a day once the infrastructure has been set up and paid for

What the stream shows is the two platforms of the Ban-etsu west line.
It's a reverse station for that line. The Western part of the line from Niitsu stops on the left platform, while the eastern part of the line for Koriyama stops on the right platform. (all of which forms the ban-etsu west line)

So after messing with streamlink for a while I figured out how to copy ustream streams with ffmpeg.

(In windows)
streamlink --stream-url <entire stream url> best
Will reveal the link to the playlist for the stream.

Then you can feed that url to ffmpeg

ffmpeg -i "<stream_url.m3u8?whatever&whatever&etc&group=iphone>" -c copy output.m3u8

It will copy the streams and make a playlist for them so they can be played or combined into one file.

Its the new latest JR East luxury cruise train that they have been trialing and set to come into full service in May this year! Which means another thing we are gonna miss!

5am. 12 hours to go, station is awake and already trains rolling in.

>>16789028
For me, a whole bunch of things:
Many stereotypes are true, Japanese are (generally) very orderly and tidy people, not a spot of litter, chewing gum or weed to be seen and I've saw no pushing and shoving in crowds.
The railwaymen do their job and act in a (mostly) professional way, often neatly dressed, politely bowing and getting on with their job.
Girls really do wear yukatas!
School children really do have long days, I often see them boarding trains or arriving at 6am!
Speaking of which, Japan does seem as safe as they say it is, no way would a single high-school girl be wandering by herself at 10pm where I live.
Japan is the land of the otaku, I've seen so many people take photos of the trains over the years, not just the special event trains like the steam train, but the humble commuter trains are popular as well. And while I haven't seen any cosplay characters walking down the platform, there have been a few mascots and characters on the trains.
Japan does not throw good stuff out. Ancient rust-buckets that people would complain about or outright avoid here are well used and even an attraction (see above). It seems Japan takes the "If it ain't broke" philosophy to heart.

A few things don't seem to be all that true, not from what I've seen in Aizu at least:
All Japanese salarymen working to 11pm is not entirely true. Yes, there are always many people, including school-children, who come in to the station late (10pm-ish) and I even see at least a dozen on the midnight train, but for the most part the biggest crowds, salarymen among them, seem to be between 4 and 6pm.
The Japanese people are not as publicly reserved as some would have you believe. I've often seen and heard naughty schoolboys mucking around, giggly schoolgirls and housewives gossiping loudly and excitedly, children and salarymen alike lively talking and laughing, especially during the weekends. But they are never raucous or crude, I've never seen rude people like bad drunks or people tossing cans onto the line, something that's a common sight at my local train and station.

Plus, there seems to be a button in a box at the side of the platform that conductors can push to play the departing music. I thought that was cool, I would be sooo tempted to Ding-Dong Dash.

I am studying abroad in Kawasakishi and I have to commute from Musahsi Kosugi eki into Shibuya each day. It's an entirely different vibe than riding the train to New York; people are just minding their own business, and the trains are new and clean. In New York there's a hostile atmosphere and everything feels very grimy because there's no incentive to keep things clean. Even though my Japanese is not very good - hence why I am studying here - I was able to figure things out in time to catch the trains because everything is straightforward.
The morning rush gets pretty packed, the most I have ever seen on a train, but even then I don't feel too constricted because everyone at least makes some small effort to make way for one another, and gives up seats for elderly people or women. Yesterday I also saw my first geisha, which was neat but I try not to stare at people.
Getting back was much less crowded, and the loudest the train got was a young couple talking to one another. Travel is pretty cheap, too; it takes 400 yen for me to travel there and back. Whereas it can take upwards of 70 dollars for me to ride a slow train into the city back home.
I am very impressed, and amused by the fanfare around the train system. The screens on the JR shinkansen that I took from the airport were advertising a train related romantic drama on their train TV channel.

Been looking through the other webcams for the first time in years. I've forgot how interesting the other webcams can be, even if most are randomly/weirdly placed. Just saw a cute girl try and stop her dog from jumping all over some random guy. I thought those cliches only happened in jdramas?!

It would be nice, if we do continue these threads, to make them a sort of "window on Japan" webcam thread. I regret not spending more time on the other cams now. It would have been interesting to see the castle or the parks filled with people during the weekends and national holidays.

The best we have is http://live.ueda.ne.jp/, with a couple more links of Shibuya and the like from YT. The problem is, the station here is much slower and we can't really see much of the platform. But on the other hand, we are able to see a bit of the surrounding environment and the quality is better.

I think that, if we are continuing these threads, it should perhaps evolve into a more general web-cam thread. That way, we can search for a few more GOOD streams to keep the thread lively. For example, imagine
http://live.ueda.ne.jp/kitamuki.html
or
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyYiV8rxeiA

The patter of the rain in Bessyo is quite soothing, I've been listening to the rain while staring at the colorful Shibuya stream in a daze until I heard the train again.

It seems to be about 15/20 minutes between trains at peak time. Not too bad. I'm happy with this being the successor of Aizu. Pity the departing "music" gives me a heart-attack every time though.

I found another train stream, but I think it's a bit too distant to be worth much. Can't tell if that is a Shinkansen at the platform though, might be worth it for that...

Don't want to blow my anonymity, but I've been here for about a year as of last week. You might be able to deduct who I am based on a certain institution in Aizu.

As for tourism, I've stayed in two different onsen resorts, one in Higashiyama, the other in Ashinomaki. Full-blown Japanese-style inns. I recommend at least one night. (maybe only one, because, they usually start at $140/person/night, plus booze)

Haven't had time to stop everywhere, but if you have access to a car or don't mind trekking it a bit, there's Ouchijuku in Minamiaizu. I've also been to Iimoriyama. Haven't actually been in Tsuruga-jo yet, but I've been on the grounds, and there's a prefectural museum next door. There's also plenty of shops and relics in the city center, especially around Nanukmachi. Enough to do here for about a two night stay.

The train station will still be the main focus I think, but we need a couple more streams just to keep the thread interesting, especially at night when the station camera is pitch black.

My suggestions are the other cameras on the same streaming site as the new station, there's one of a japanese grandpa cooking mochi or something, and if you want another train stream, the only other one I can see is
