Enjoying and deriving pleasure from your own art is seen as sinful and narcissist. You're supposed to self flagellate, overcriticize your own work and only appreciate what others create.

But on the other side, you have western game developers. People that don't even play the games they create. Actors that never watch the movies they star in. Musicians that never listen to their own music. They work is created by committee and with focus groups. It's soulless.

Instead, if you make something to please yourself, chances are that other like you will also find it pleasurable.

I wasn't always like this. After I finished a drawing I just buried it in a folder and moved onto the next one. But I realized that the morally correct thing to do was to eat my own cooking.

It was a very painful experience. Being forced to admire my own art as if I was looking at someone's else. Not because it was bad artistically, but because I saw that all the decisions that I took were approval from others. To get likes. How is that different from being a scummy marketer?

Therefore, forcing yourself to consume (and fap) to your own work is the most noble thing you can do.
