I just ordered a vita game from Japan and they put a hand-written thank you letter in the package and sent me some hand-made origami and said it was a present. I feel very flattered. Is this some sort of ruse? Has this happened to any of you?

>> No.16613914

Nah that's happened to me a couple of times. You should leave them positive feedback, if it's an option.

i remember reading a manga where the characters ordered fruits from the countryside, and the package came with photos of an old farmer next to a field "i worked hard to grow these tasty fruits, please enjoy them"

i guess some adopt the same practice for ebay

others i got were more normal, a geek with red glasses, a man with slightly anime hair, a middle-aged woman

i threw them away because it felt awkward then, maybe i should have kept them

Why? If anything it pulled at my heartstrings since the note and doodle were cuter than what I've received before, but I've ordered from other sites before (free samples and bought items) as well as from people and they've mostly always had something extra it.
Most free samples I've ordered have mostly just had a printed thank you note, a picture of their mascot or a wallet sized picture of an anime girl leaning forward grinning doing a peace sign. I give more value to something done by hand, though.

From what I remember Japanese companies are really flattered when when foreigners buy their shit online because they know you probably paid a shit ton for shipping and the like.

to mark the package as gift? (no wait mine were all declared as merchandise)
to convert us into repeat customers, by adding a contrived human factor?
to have a practical use for old candy stock, instead of just throwing them away?
that all the notes are mass produced?
that the photos are not of the sellers themselves?
