Is there really any way for Akiha and Shiki to live happily together for the rest of their lives? Let's say it's possible to kill SHIKI much more earlier in the story and avoid him making contact with Akiha. Any chance?

Since it's obvious CIel picks him up. here's what happens:

Using CHurh usual restoration stuff (she has the best healing available ingame), Shiki gets a new lifeforce instead of getting 1/4 or half.

Akiha is less burdened, Shiki hasn't used his eyes too much (unlike near side).

They can live more than a couple of years (not many decades or anything but still).

So secretly, Akiha True end is the best end (with both maids around too)

Actually, when Shiki kills SHIKI, he gets his life force back that SHIKI stole, meaning Akiha wouldn't need to share hers anymore.

But Shiki will still only live for at most a decade because of having died before and the stress on his body of it.

Akiha always needs to share her life-force with Shiki, because he's living on her life. This is how it happened:

-SHIKI kills Shiki.
-Akiha brings Shiki back to life using 1/2 of her life-force.
-SHIKI fuses his life with Shiki's, causing them to share that 1/2.

Shiki is literally a dead man walking. He can be sustained by mana transfer with Hisui or Kohaku, but Akiha, his source of life-force, can't.
In a case of Akiha's death, like Hisui True, his synchronizing with Hisui probably isn't buying much time.

Bad ends all 'round.

When you go Nanaya on Akiha and take her head, your life force returns with her death, and Shiki can live, even though Kohaku died, too.

Shiki bangs Kohaku everyday and gets energy in return, extending his life. For that reason, Akiha does not need to spend her energy on him and can focus on stopping her blood impulses, gaining the ability of remaining human indefinitely. Kohaku recovered her true smile and is truly happy for the first time in 12 years. Hisui is... well, Hisui.

I always figured that the reason Shiki ended up surviving in the true ending was because of something similar to what happened in Ciel's route. ie Roa/Shiki dies, spirit is transferred over to other Shiki. Then when he "stabbed himself" he was actually stabbing Roa's point of death.

There's mistake in transition, here. Two bad endings show that Shiki can kill Akiha and still live, so he's not "dependent" on her being alive to live. Further, no matter what, Shiki, like Shirou, has another decade of life left to go at best before he cashes his chips in.

And in most ends of Tsukihime, Kohaku's subplot isn't resolved (Hisui and Kohaku's routes being the only two resolved ones). As of the other routes, Kohaku would still be feeding Akiha, which means she'll be growing more inhuman every year. One year, she'll snap, and then it'll be the end of the Tohno line.

Of course, Akiha has the proper control (aka, can cut him off.

If she doesn't, Shiki is the only one who receives it.
