/jp/ from the 2008 to 2013 period was EXTREMELY harsh in judging posters and content. "Get out of /jp/" was common to see in near-every thread.
It has mellowed out a bit since.

It hasn't, it seems it has because mods and the continuous huge horde of retards keep flowing this place giving less space to the actual userbase. When there's 50 generals that came from other boards in the catalog it's hard to see the old /jp/.

Most posts were very mean spirited, yes.

The catalog pretty much ruined /jp/ though. Now we don't have to see stupid threads stay on the first page and we're all kinda cordoned off in little areas of /jp/ related to things we like. It's more like a forum now... which is totally gay.

I don't get it. Is this a comic by /v/ to make /v/ feel good about itself? Because I see awoo and other similar stuff way more often in other places than /jp/.

Also what this >>16440475 geek said. There have been plenty of -tans of /jp/ and other boards before. Why would they insist to push this batch of new -tans on every board is beyond me.

turns out that a board where people only have high-quality (or not so high-quality) on-topic discussion is actually sort of boring

It's not the general's fault. It's more like /jp/. was made because /a/ was angry about anything that wasn't anime or manga and /v/ was mad about Japanese games, so a ghetto for them to go into was made. /jp/ had fun and then all the other boards started wanting to come to /jp/ and see what they big deal was. They began appropriating /jp/ memes and spreading them around and then coming and trying to act buddy-buddy with the people they exiled and wondering why /jp/ hated everyone else. /jp/ also strangely attracted all the oldfags on the site, who are probably the ones responsible for wanting /jp/ to be 2D/random and "old /b/".

/jp/s primary problem is /vg/'s existence, taking most of the users away and the only ones coming back having been tainted by the way they act there. Another problem is /a/ and /v/ stopped being angry about the things they used to be angry about in my first paragraph and want to discuss /jp/ topics now. Both are still incapable of actually discussing a topic without flamewars and shitposting though. Since it's filled with the people who used to hate it, it seems less hostile towards them.
