I'm positive everyone learns whatever Japanese Gensokyo uses automatically upon entry. Touhous come from all over the world and throughout time and space, yet they all communicate perfectly fine. There's gotta be something going on there.

Are the Moriyas "good" or decent enough to join as a faction? Like, out of all of them, are they the least likely to dick you over?

Suwako and Kanako are chiefly concerned with gathering faith for themselves, but do so by trying to improve the lives of their followers. A lot of it doesn't work out, but the effort is there, which counts for a lot. You'll probably get smaller benefits too. They're kinda schemers, but aren't going to screw you over unless they've got very good reason.
Sanae kinda does her own thing.

Kanako was overly ambitious, but learned to chill as of late (see Hermit 19).
Suwako acts a bit creepy sometimes and could propably blackmail people with her curse gods, but she also seems to not bother with it and just chill as well.
Sanae's primary goal is to gather faith for the goddesses, but that doesn't prevent her from resolving incidents and helping Reimu on a daily basis (most of Hermit).

Overall, the Moriya Trio have made good friends out of the tengu and kappa and they haven't done anything dangerous from SA onward. They are also pretty pleasant on personal basis, so it would propably be a good idea to get closer to them.

That's actually not true, fellow Sanaefag.

In UFO, ReimuA and SanaeB are the best shots in the game, but for different reasons. ReimuA has the easiest time going through the game without bombs as well as being the best at capturing patterns (also the simplest to use and get used to), while SanaeB has the strongest bomb in the game and has the best stage performance. It helps she has shotgun potential for heavy damage. She's the most used for scoring, too.

As for LoLK, Sanae's tied with Reisen for having the simplest clears and she has the highest scoring potential overall. As for Reimu, she's again the best at dealing with spells and getting through the game without bombs. If you want to learn the game's patterns, then she's the best shot you'd want to use.

Though I suppose in terms of simply 1ccing, then you're right. Just not to a huge extent.

I would agree, since the 2hus all go to the Lunar Capital in LoLK, and even though the Lunarians speak literal moonspeak, communication was fine. Same with the Eientei gang fleeing to Earth and being 100% OK. Unless the Lunarians somehow developed Japanese completely parallel to Earth Japanese, the only explanation is that Gensokyo/The Lunar Capital has magical translation properties.

I reckon Sanae checks on the branch shrine fairly regularly. Plus, they *are* working on a cable car directly to the main shrine.

Also, you wouldn't stand a chance in hell to make it to tengu without powers. The mountain gods would propably drive you away or tell to wait for the shrine maiden. And the tengu seem to be more interested in keeping the intruders away from their turf rather than outright mauling them. The kappa on the other hand cannot be accounted for, considering how their occupation as a cute engineering nerds kinda contrasts with their original brutal legends.
