NEWLY COMPILED PASTE:
http://pastebin.com/RtPVkRe0

This paste compiles information that was previously included in additional separate posts linked to OP. New section has also been added with all the train models seen at the station.

If there are corrections or adjustments to be made reply to OP.

In the future, there's a plan to transfer all the the info in the paste to a simple site so that it can be properly formatted and images/video can be added. The paste will be kept as well for those that prefer it and both will be updated.

No. Aizuwakamatsu is the end of the line (at least where the camera is, further left is the Tadami line). If a train misses the platform by 200m here, if brakes too late, then it'll smash into the station and be a disaster.

Yeah some of the Youtube link cameras changes links regularly.

To see all Japanese live cameras at the present use this:

Will add what you posted to the next pastebin to clarify what to do if someone stumbles on a dead link

The dynamic nature of live links is something that I currently don't have a solution for, especially if it's a pastebin we're working with

I suppose the best practice would still be to post the most recent link of interest in the thread. Maintaining it in a centralized pastebin would take a good amount of dedication.

We can just include links to the directory of live cams that are static in the pastebin (much like the solution you mentioned) and leave the sharing of dynamic links of specific cams to the thread

Tadami Line is a very scenic line running out of Aizuwakamatsu.
A group of people organize and hold drinking parties on the train about once a month, usually around the second Saturday of the month.
Last time I went was during Golden Week last year. I met the mayor of Kaneyama (that is as far as the train goes due to a bridge being out past there).

It's about a four hour round trip and much sake is drunk.

I still recommend using

ffmpeg.exe -y -i mmsh://center3.ntt-fukushima.com/n-jraizu -c:v copy -c:a copy output.mkv

though. It's faster and you can tweak the encoding settings whenever.

Because otherwise you'd have to re-encode the thing instead of just downloading. The stream is in mkv so you're pretty much copying the stream with the command, if you were putting it in a .mp4 or anything else you'd need to re-encode both the video and audio so on top of downloading the file, you'd also be encoding it at the same time.

Btw the problem with the pastebin is not about that as it does say that you have to encode in webm for 4chan, and it does show how to download without encoding it and does say you have to convert them to webm anyway to post it on 4chan.

The problem is that it says "c:v vp8" multiple times when it should be "c:v libvpx"

This has started happening ever since the stream went up again after days of downtime recently.

Here is a pseudo fix (not sure of tech explanation for it) that has reduced chopiness for me (on a GNU/Linux system worked perfectly fine before)

instead of using the .asf link with your streaming program try:

mmsh://center3.ntt-fukushima.com/n-jraizu

is mmsh different from asf (I know they're both proprietary microsoft)? Is there any other version of this stream in an open format? Is there a way to reencode on the fly with a stream? Maybe this will fix choppiness? I don't know much about multimedia

Here's an interesting topic:

-What are some of the weirdest things (rarest events) you saw at the station? (whether you managed to capture it doesn't really matter)
For me:
-a wild animal walking at night, perfectly balanced on one of the rails (raccoon possibly)
-a girl that sat on the edge of the platform with her legs dangling for a brief period of time

-What rare event are you looking forward to seeing or what are you surprised you haven't seen yet?

For me, I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone fall or bump into other people in a conspicuous manner yet.

I also have never seen the front door of the rail car opened.

Please share /jp/!

I didn't see it myself but I think 2ch or Futaba captured a guy jumping into the snow, it was around 2010. I'll do a search when I get home to see if I can find the screenshots.

Well put. I had this romance towards trains when I was little but died when the trains I caught on a regular basis were the trains to school and work in the intercity train network.

The JR system, Shinkansen, the sleepers luxury and of course this station has reinvigorated my love, passion and romance for trains. Although I do wonder how much of that has to do with me being a weeb.

The Tadami Line is truly wonderful. If you ever visit Aizuwakamatsu I would suggest going on it.

The guy I went with a couple weeks ago rode the line like 140 times in the last year, and it only goes about twice a day.

I do like Japan's service attitude as well. In most western countries every line would be assessed for worth and closed if not making money, in Japan they pretty much keep them open as long as someone is using them. I remember one story about a line that was kept open for one schoolgirl who took it every day to school and back, and once she graduated it closed down.

>> No.16484907

>>16484823
>a line that was kept open for one schoolgirl
It was a bit of a misleading story, though the reality of it is still cute enough. The line continues to operate, it's only the station that the schoolgirl used that was kept open just for her. Since her graduation the trains on the line simply skip past that station, because literally no one uses it anymore (and the trip to either the next or the previous station isn't actually that bad for anyone needing to use the line less frequently).

I don't remember the original article, but googling lends plenty of related articles. The line in question is the single track Sekihoku Main Line in the rural northern Hokkaido (which explains the low passenger amounts), and the station that the schoolgirl used was the Kyu-Shirataki station.

http://www.businessinsider.com/japans-most-unusual-train-station-2016-1

The story was originally widely misreported along the lines of what >>16484823 said. Even in Japan it was at first thought that the existence of the line itself depended on the schoolgirl (and it is a bit of a shabby backwoods line, so no big wonder), and the Kyu-Shirataki station was misidentified as the Kami-Shirataki station (which exists on the same line and was also shut down around the same time, but didn't have a regular schoolgirl passenger of its own). Corrections to the story arrived after interest in it had mostly died down.

It's a cute place to look around in Google Maps. Since Google's captured images around the area date back to 2014, the Kyu-Shirataki station is still present there. If you went there in person today, you wouldn't find anything at all except for the single track railway; all the station infrastructure was demolished after the station shut down in early 2016.
