Gelbooru has become jewish and stuffs annoying adds into your face. They want 3x the amount of money newgrounds wants for running their website. Newgrounds hosts videogames and movies and has 10x the userbase and only wants $4000 a month, gelbooru(jewbooru) wants $15,000 a month even though the site is way less bandwidth intensive.

Although nhentai has recently been popping up DMM ads that I'm not fully sure how to block yet, which is sad because I like their layout and reader.

I use Pixiv because it's objectively better in every possible way than the boorus which scrape it.

Are the tags worse? Sure. Sometimes you'll find a picture for a fetish hidden away under just a series tag, instead of any of the common search terms.

But everything else is miles better. Want to read a set from an artist, in the right fucking order? You can just use the arrow keys. Want to read the title of the piece, or the fucking description? Can't do that on a booru. EOPs might ask "Why?", but not only does the description often contain the "story" for the work, you can find the odd downloadable extra, there's an うごイラ guy I like who often uploads simplified previews to Pixiv, then has a 20 second movie with sound you can download in the description.

The only reader site I use is ex, because it has a nice browsing interface and is 90% pirated material. Boorus are all easily accessible stuff, but in "one place" as if that's convenient. I only follow 30 or 40 artists regularly, and the majority of them put everything on Pixiv. A few use Twitter too, and a couple have their own blogs. It's not hard to keep track.

Sure, I'll give you that, it would work alright as a backup. If they actually bothered spending the 2 cents on bandwidth it'd cost to scrape the names and descriptions.

Maybe if you're using some third-party extension. While it does have shortcuts at least, you've got all that space wasted on every single page with the menu at the top, and pages don't even pre-load, even Pixiv loads the next page in advance for you by default.

There's no quality control, you could be reading total garbage. And you've got to mouse over every little box, it's not a very comfortable way to read.

Really, the only reason anyone uses boorus is because they lay things out in easy to understand EOP terms, and it's not like you guys have a choice unless you know how to copy and paste from Google. Even with that said, loading up 50 images from a booru is less titillating than a couple of doujins off the panda, I can't picture anyone using them as anything more than an occasional distraction.

By default, Pixiv just sets the image to your vertical resolution, no scrolling required for sets. If it happens to be a one-off, or a weird shape, you can just click the little expand button to see the original resolution.

Why would I ever use Danbooru over Gelbooru?
As far as I can tell Danbooru uploads faaaar less than Gelbooru (Even disregarding the occasional gelbooru duplicate), has a bunch of restrictions you have to pay to get rid of, and as far as I can tell doesn't really offer much more other than pools.

Meanwhile people seem to hate Gelbooru just because they don't know that adblockers exist.

Danbooru is all well and good but some of the pools are weird and of questionable utility, just adding clunk to the site's backend.

While that's easy to ignore, it's hard to get past the two-tag limitation. I occasionally search for triple tags and it's been enough of an issue that I've switched to using Gelbooru primarily. If that means getting the one WatchMyGirlfriend dot com ad every fap session, it's a very light price to be paying to be able to use more tags.

Danbooru users shit on Gelbooru and it's really retarded when they do. Child posts are an improvement, but they don't warrant this extreme point-blank elitism that comes up every time the this discussion comes up. I use both sites and both are perfectly fine, grow up and deal with it.

Because guess what, we don't live in a perfect world where everyone can have everything they want. Compromises have to be made, sometimes for understandable reasons, though it's mostly just stupid bullshit instead.
If anything, I would advise one to use a bit of all three sites, to varying degrees. That's my stance on the unending argument that seems to be the subject of this thread, anyway.

The only reason to use gelbooru is when performing searches due to no tag limitations , or if you're looking for stuff by western artists or maybe lewds.

I know for a fact that there's bots ferrying stuff from between both boorus so they're pretty much the same, though BBB danbooru's higher post count gives it an unparalleled advantage

Every once in a while I see someone somewhere link to sankaku and I am reminded that somehow there are people out there who actually prefer it. I don't understand these people, and I'm actually not even sure at this point that I can call them people.

You must have not used it for a particular stretch of time. For a while they would run webm ads under each picture. I have an adblock rule from 2016-08-04 for "gelbooru.com/b.webm", as well as some other stuff. I don't know if they're there now (and they've given up changing the classes) or if they've stopped - I stopped using Gel entirely once they pulled that.

They also had some stunt where they put most of the site navigation elements into the same class as ads so that adblockers would hide all site navigation (and beneath them they put a smarmy "support the site!" message, of course). They rolled that one back rather quickly, or else adblockers updated their stuff.

Having more images in an image database is never a bad thing if the images are properly tagged. You can just use search terms to hide the tags you don't like and then, happy browsing. Having to download browser extensions just to see the full gamut of content a booru should have on by default is just plain weird and unnecessary.

Yeah, I use pixiv every once in a while too. I'd honestly use it more if it wasn't for having to scroll down an album to load the images, which is super annoying. Nijie does this much better than pixiv and I'm glad it's garnering some support.

I'd still encourage people to use whatever the hell imageboards they want, even sankaku or e621. Sankaku has more decensored images and that nice "Users also looked at these images" thing which leads you into intense fap trains, and e621 is furry heaven if that's your thing, so do whatever your willy beckons you to. Gelbooru has JAV webms which is nice every once in a while, and ironically Danbooru feels like the more restricted one at the end of the spectrum.
