I think I'd cry. Well, maybe not, but I'd feel sad for a while. Then I'd scour the internets for the rest of you guys to see if someone set up a secret area of /jp/ for us to share.

First I'd try /a/, since that's where we came from originally except I don't watch much anime nor care for discussing anime at all these days. I'd try to carry on with the /jp/ discussions there until I realize that it's futile with all the bullshit there. After that, I'd just probably pursue my other hobbies and lurk other boards like /ck/ or /po/ or something. If 4chan died, I'd just be pissed because I have nowhere to go anymore.

/jp/ is the last good board on 4chan and the only reason I come here anymore. I probably would browse some of the less popular chans every know and then, trying to find something that resembles what 4chan used to be.

There is another /a/, over at rschan ( http://img.rschan.net/a/ ). /rs/chan itself is pretty... useless. All 3D and mostly porn, but they do have an /a/ board. Since there's nobody that actually uses it, it could get used for anything you want. I'm a mod and could get any board you guys would want, with any rules, so if you want another /touhou/ or another /l/ or something, it's possible.

I'd go back to /v/. I never went to /a/, I just kinda skipped from /v/ to here.

That might have been true for the first month it existed. Not so much anymore. Change that to:

Don't get me wrong, not everything is shit. /tg/ and /jp/ are mediocre, only because they require a knowledge of a specific subject to know half of what's going on.

If /jp/ did die, the eventual flood back into /a/ might give enough momentum to drive away the /a/ - Random crowd. After a period of about two weeks, people would get tired of the endless threads complaining about how /a/ + /jp/ != old /a/. Most people drift away to specialized, smaller boards catering to some of their preferred topics, some remain back and adapt into the next iteration of /a/.
Touhou and VN threads remain sporadically, but get quickly pruned by 5 GET threads and random crap. There are nightly threads crying for the old /jp/ and how great it was. They get saged.

I would cut 4chan out of my life forever. The only other board I can stand even a little bit is /tg/, and I'm out of my depth there. And there's no way I'd ever go to some shithole like pooshlmer. I don't even really like Touhou anyway. I'd just take the time to catch up on reading and pro StarCraft matches and shit like that, unless someone let me in on the next place to be.

Yeah sorry to the anon that rschan banned. I checked with the admin, and he said there was a bug in the system that auto-banned anyone that turned javascript off (he's got a very complex security system set up there, if you try to spoof the posting code, you're permanently banned), so he's going to correct that code later tonight, and add more moderator functions if people actually are going to start using the boards.

My guess is that it was a slippery slope. Someone tries a random thread, and it lives on. Following the example, more users try more threads that have nothing to do with the board. As the threads remain successful and notable, users start to think this is nominal and completely acceptable.
Fast forward a couple months, and you have a shit to quality ratio beyond the acceptable measures. There are still good threads, but they are just so rare...
As for what attracts the obnoxious posters, my guess is that as 4chan becomes more popular, people that already have interests in anime and manga leap into /a/ when they get bored of /b/. Bringing what they learned there with them. But it's too easy to shift blame into newcomers, truth is that we're all to blame. We endured geass sundays and the weekly shonen jump threads with barely any resistance. It's no wonder people think they are acceptable.
And tripfags. It pains me to say it, but the tripfags are what drove me away. And I'm well aware of the irony.
