why are starlight dancehall's normal and hyper charts so much harder than other (RECENT/CURRENT charts, with proper difficulty ratings) at their same level? the normal chart is rated 6 but it's got the density, 16ths, and chords of a 7 or some 8s (in the breeze sph, blaze it up sph for example)

and the hyper chart is really hard for a 9

like it's expected that you get bullshit ratings when you're playing something from 9th style or whatever but they've mostly cleaned up their act recently and i'm surprised this song slipped through the cracks the way it did

What are various techniques for handling BPM changes in IIDX? I'm familiar with using floating hi speed and adjusting it a notch after the bpm change to snap the GN back to what it was set at. I've also seen videos where the song begins at a slow BPM, so the player has a really high WN, then the BPM doubles and the player somehow toggles the lane cover off to transition to the higher BPM without missing a note. I'm not sure exactly how this works.

As far as I know, SDVX offset is purely visual (not sure about IIDX), so probably not.

Just use whatever gets you a balanced amount of earlies/lates and possibly adjust hi-speed for fine tuning.

Just curious, am I the only one who does not like Pop'n's music lineup very much? The game itself seems solid, but most of the songs just pale in comparison to, say, IIDX or SDVX.

Which, to be fair, both seem to have fairly high quality songs. But overall Pop'n's song quality just seems to be kind of... low, IMO. They kind of sound like the kind of songs perhaps directed at a more female audience, to be frank.

IIDX has been out much longer probably plays a pretty significant role.

If you can play some of the hardest stuff IIDX has to offer then reading SDVX probably wouldn't be too difficult, more a matter of learning how to do lazers right and the proper hand movements. SDVX does seem like it has a higher volume of higher-ish BPM songs though, I will say that. Density, however, seems lower. Which is not really a bad thing, it's a good idea to start smaller and slowly ramp it up as the game progresses. Even if you're a Kaiden or something, you'd probably still need time to learn.

Well, I wanted a smaller one so it was between the FPS and PortableDX, went with the latter since it looked nicer but now that I'm actually playing it, some features in the Dao firmware would be nice to have. I can't find a good setup for the effect buttons that gives me all possible options (best I have is VEFX as a double-tap on the start button which means I can't use floating hi-speed) and I have to remember to hold down a button whenever I plug it in for it to use controller mode instead of keyboard. Being able to switch 1P/2P quickly seemed cool too but how often am I even going to use that?

Modern DDR song list is 90% filler and even the very theme of the game and its UI is so tryhard these days. It has been ever since SuperNOVA.

Compare with the older mixes and it's practically a different game developed by a different company. I'm hype for the steps towards eAmusement in the USA and fixed timing, but DDR A is not worth waiting in a line that's four people deep at all hours of the day.

It's not really a habit yet but I've noticed it happening every now and then.

I think it's due to my muscle memory of the fps tt. When I turn away from me I have to kind of move my hand to the left since I can't push it further away due to the tt being so small.

It's definitely a fault in my technique rather than the controller but if I had got the fp7 I don't think I would have started to do it at all.
