Toradora! anime is great. Worth checking out if you have nothing else to do tonight.

And with that, I bid you all adieu. Toradora marathon time.

Also, /a/.

I read the manga and it was kinda interesting. I tried to read the light novel and couldn't get into it, though I suspect that was because I read the manga first. (I had the same problem with Zero no Tsukaima, only backwards. I couldn't get into the manga after reading the light novel.).

How does it compare, Jones? Assuming you've read any of the light novel/manga.

I've read neither. Probably will pick up the manga once I'm up to speed, though. The anime is pretty entertaining.

It's cheap entertainment.

>>1612202
Don't expect an adaptation of the manga, but more of an amalgamation of the novel and manga version. Plus, far more Minori and Ami screen time which pretty much saves this version. Otherwise, it's the animation that fails to convey more action than static black and white drawings.
It's not bad, but it's not the peak of animation. Don't expect much out of it and you'll be happy.

This show is good, but ends up looking mediocre compared to all the other great stuff out this season. I'm watching 10 shows this season and half of them are top tier. One Outs, After Story, Kannagi, Tytania, and the new season of Nodame Cantabile are all really great.

Since you seem fairly knowledgeable about all this, one more quick question:

As I said before, I had a hard time getting into the light novel after reading the manga. However, I also thought the manga for Zero no Tsukaima was very.. watered down compared to the light novel, and I heard the anime for it was about 10 times worse in that respect.

I can't help but wonder, is Toradora the same? They're rather different types of stories so I'm not sure if it could be comparable.. But anyways, to sum up my question in a way that makes sense:

The light novel for Toradora, better or comparable to the manga? I don't think I gave it enough of a chance before, and I'm not sure if I should go back to it.

I have greatly enjoyed ToraDora so far, and hope that it will continue to be good.

Kannagi is okay, not really great. I'll keep watching it, sure, but I think you guys hype it too much. And Zange's the slut, not Nagi, lol.

One Outs? Haha, as if.

Michiko to Hatchin looks promising from what I've read, maybe it's next.

novel > manga > anime for some
manga > novel > anime if you ask me.
Point is, erase your short term memory, forget anything you saw in the manga, and watch. We raged plenty for the first few episodes, with whole chapters being compressed into a single rushed episode and animation not raising to the occasion for a few select scenes. But it's an adaptation, not following it precisely. The rushed episode was done to introduce Ami earlier and focus on Minori as well. It works well, and I would have been happier if I hadn't read the manga before.
That said, the manga has far better comedy. But it's so damn slow...

My recommendation would be, watch it, try not to rage at how they mangled the streetlight scene.

This. It really is that bad.

A great anime would be Tytania, what with it originally being a novel by Yoshiki Tanaka (LotGH) and it also having the same director as LotGH. The Toradora anime cannot be called great; it makes stuff like Zero no Tsukaima and Shakugan no Shana look brilliant.

Even stuff like the Vampire Knight second season has a better production staff and is probably more thrilling than Toradora.

It seems you judge animu based on namedropping alone. Tytania is pretty shitty compared to LoGH so far, seeing as it's missing the politics and battles that made the original good. There's only been one fucking battle so far, the characters are thoroughly unlikable, and there's been almost no effort to explain any of the politics yet. Not to mention that the animation itself is pretty mediocre, and would probably lose if you compared it to Tora Dora on production value alone. Sure Tora Dora is a generic high school drama by J.C. staff, but at least it doesn't make itself out to be any more than that.
