What is your earliest Touhou memory?

For me it's watching the tsurupettan video for the first time 7 years ago.

>What is your earliest Touhou memory?
People shitting up ye old /a/ with obnoxious Cirno "baka/9" memes back in 2005 (or 2006). When moot created /jp/ I was happy that /a/ would be free of Touhou. At the time, I kept arguing that Touhou did not belong on /a/ since it didn't have an official anime. Not only that, but certain namefags like AoRF used to do Touhou hijacks. 4chan didn't have captcha back then so anybody with a spam script could make an entire thread their bitch. The behavior of Touhou fans really left me with a bad first impression of the series.

Cirno finally grew on me, and I started to like Touhou. Also, I doubt I would have become a fan of Touhou if not for IOSYS' music videos. I miss old /a/. I even miss the namefags AoRF, Cirno, Anonymous of Gensokyo, Hong Meiling, Anon of Columbia, krade, and Zunbar. I wonder if those guys are still alive and I wonder if they still go to 4chan.

>> No.16034968

My first memory was when I was reading about memes (back in 2006 or so) and coming across a video titled "Night of Nights". I listened to the song, liked it, and a few years later I found a Youtuber who does black MiDis of Touhou songs. I really took some affection to Bad Apple!!, and eventually Cirno's Perfect Math Class. Eventually, this summer, I decided to download Touhou games. I started off from HRtP (didn't browse /jp/, that came a few months later), got my arse kicked, and remembered that Touhou was a bullet hell game (which I had minimal experience playing before), so I wondered why I was playing something similar to Atari Breakout. I decided to play the other games (in order) from the PC-98 era, wondering when some characters would show up, and how. I was fucking stupid, as I got a Game Over on Stage 2 of SoEW, mainly because I didn't know what to do against the youkai that was advancing towards me, since I hugged the bottom of the screen. Heck, I couldn't even pass the second stage of SoEW Normal with continues, I didn't even reach the boss.
Then I play PoDD and am confused why there's a massive cast I can choose. I also didn't know how to play the vs. danmaku games, so I died at Stage 1.
LLS and MS are a blur to me. I remember choosing Marisa in TH04 (can't remember the names either), and reaching Stage 3. I was pumped from what I heard from the remixes, but was slightly disappointed.
In TH05 I remember picking Mima, and not reaching Alice. (I didn't have the fonts for the PC-98 games, so I had no grasp of the plot.)
I think I played EoSD for a while, and when I reached Cirno's battle, I remembered Perfect Math Class, and was surprised at the similarities.

Some time goes on, I don't know. I reach PoFV one way or another, and I thought they didn't have the PoDD controls. I was wrong. I'm pretty sure I picked Marisa, and I might've learned what focusing was, I'm not sure.
I beat the first five stages easily, not too hard, and then I reach Sakuya's stage. (Whether I reached her or not in EoSD, I can't remember.) I heard Flowering Night, and that might've been the thing that did it for me, or it might've been sooner.

All I know is, I started as a pleb, then slowly descended into the fray of the community.

Barring an ill-fated attempt at HRtP the first game I really got into and beat was PoFV, which I loved because it was easy and had Aya in it. Of corse when I tried the regular games they ripped me a new asshole.

I actually first got into Touhou only a few months ago.

Although I remember reading about Touhou a few years back in the Guinness Book of World Records but soon forgot about it. I had a huge stick up my ass at that point. I am not sure what my problem was, but I denounced everything as unrealistic and could only enjoy the most dry of things. I read the entirety of the 1982 World Book Encyclopedia for "fun." The only video games I would play were stuff along the lines of Gary Grisby's War in the East, along with KSP and Minecraft (because autism). I was not taking it easy.

I actually only started coming to 4chan shortly after my 18th birthday. I went to /pol/ because of stuff like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_LwfcjtFUU.. There I encountered the Momiji spam and researched it. I followed a natural progression from there.

It may be surprising that I didn't encounter Touhou before then, but I really only used the internet for research and reddit (which is a testament to reddit's insular effect) before this summer. When I was first exposed to the internet in 7th grade, I used it mainly for stuff like looking up blueprints for World War One era battleships and airgun mechanisms. Now I mainly get into retarded arguments.

Anyways, ya'll should watch out; I heard that there might be some newfags on your board.

So an anti Semitic white nationalist /pol/ meme video that was published in April of 2016 is what brought you here?

I don't even remember when /pol/ was created. And I guess I stopped being active on 4chan while /pol/ became popular. It looks like an extreme version of /b/.

>/pol/ is the biggest board on this site
Its post rate is bigger than /b/? I didn't think that was possible.

>>16043346
>I check /b/ a few times a year
Back in the old days on /jp/, a comment like that would get you a lot of "get the fuck out" responses. Then again, /jp/ seems to have changed a lot. With the exception of the idolfans, people used to hate 3D women on this board. But now I see that /jp/ has daily JAV threads. The old /jp/ would hate modern /jp/.

The JAV threads are a fucking tumor on this board and wholly unnecessary since they also have threads on /gif/, /hc/ and half the /t/ catalog. However janny wants them here and we can't do much else about it. But that doesn't mean the rest of the board enjoys seeing them here.

What the hell just happened here:
http://archived.moe/jp/thread/16034447/

What's with the mass deletion of post janitor? There's borderline /s/ [>>16038295], /h/ [>>16039986], and /e/ [>>16035075] being posted and you're deleting mildly off-topic responses to a thread that welcomes off-topic responses. Janitor, are you feeling okay?

Got McRolled like 7-8 years ago, took me hours to find the original music, after that I found flandre, the rest of the touhou universe and started playing the games.

I saw a picture of Alice somewhere on /b/, in like maybe 2008. I thought she was pretty cute so after finding out where she came from I looked up some Touhou gameplay videos and the first result was the extra stage from IN.

Mokou's theme immediately drew me in and I got hooked on Touhou music after that.

No, that's not how it works. Jan-jan is just neurotically deleting posts he doesn't like, as usual. It can't be helped.

And now because I pointed out the janitor's awkward behavior, I will probably be banned soon. When I tried to post I got this message:
>Error: You are temporarily blocked from posting for violating /jp/ 1 - Off-Topic, Otaku Culture Only. This block will expire in 14 minutes. [more info]

And when I click on [more info] it sends me to this message:
>Users are temporarily blocked from posting when there is a pending ban request placed on their IP. This block lasts 15 minutes from the time a janitor submits a ban request, and is removed immediately if the request is denied by a moderator.
This janitor just submitted a ban request for me for pointing out his awkward behavior. This is so odd. I'm not officially banned yet, but I've been muted for 14 minutes. I will report this janitor's awkward behavior to Hiro. It's not like I did anything wrong. I was just asking what was going on with the mass deletion. If you check the archive, he deleted some post that were on topic. Dear rookie janitor, if you keep acting like this you're only motivating me more to report your behavior.

This is what I posted:

Petitioning the janitor on the board itself (shouldn't be, but) is against the rules.

If you have a comment to make, use the feedback form, or /qa/, or contact one of the mods on #4chan and ask politely about the problem you are having.

>> No.16044001 [DELETED]

That said, it launched a big derail, so I would hardly be surprised if you're just told to fuck off by the mods, in which case you have no recourse.

You could still try though.

>>16043996
Fuck off, /jp/ has been this way for years and nobody cares, especially the mods, who probably encourage the janitors to act like this. The 3D generals that have nothing to do with /jp/ have thread numbers in the hundreds and are consistently the majority of page 1. They want /jp/ to be this way and nothing you can do will help.

I was talking to the people complaining about the deletions in this particular thread (which I commented on before actually visiting the archive for this thread).

If it's the usual /jp/ thread complaints, I doubt you can achieve anything about them by complaining here or anywhere else.

This makes me sad. The meido used to protect us from the ban hammer. I remember how he would go out of his way to remove banworthy post before the mods got a chance to see it. The new turbo-snitch janitors are like IRL cops. They just want to kiss up to their bosses and have high arrest numbers (or in their case, high ban referral numbers). I wonder if the culture has changed and they now have an incentive to report us to mods. I will never know what motivated our beloved meido to protect us the way he did, but I will never forget his bravery and kindness for standing up to the mods. This new janitor will never have fan art or love.

Okay, so explain why he deleted this response:
http://archived.moe/jp/thread/16034447/#q16040300

OP is asking us how we discovered Touhou, and one anon happened to discover it via /pol/. Did he delete his post because he mentioned /pol/?

>The current janitor is so new he probably never heard that motto before.
This new janitor is out of control. We need to stop him. We will all probably get ban referrals just for writing this. Not only is the new janitor bad at his job but he's censoring the public outrage. He can't silence the ghost board. If he bans you continue talking there.

>> No.16044115 [DELETED]

This janitor isn't as bad as the previous ones, so more harm then good could come from reporting him.

The janitor might live to see another day. But if complaints like this keep piling up, eventually the staff will be forced to revoke his janitor privileges. Hopefully he learns from this incident and gets better at his job.

Best not to report the janitor, he's doing an alright job so far. So withdraw the complaint.
