Some are lucky enough to be taken by someone and are currently keep in some obscure otaku's home. I have seen some photos of some SM costumes in settings that are definitely not an amusement park, mall or some social area.

OH, I'm an old schooler. And I'm also aware of Yuri Tsukino and her Kanakig masks. Those were among the first ones Kanakig did. He was good but they weren't 100% as same as the stageshow. If he didn't retire, he could have possibly have reached the 100%.

It really is a shame that Yuri died. He was the one who really brought the western kig community together around the turn of the millenium. After his unfortunate death, many tried to be the "next Yuri" and be the public face of Western kigs but many became self-centered. I wonder what would have happened had Yuri not died so suddenly.

To top everything off, his family tossed all his masks and stuff to the garbage. Including the Venus kig costume of a friend of his named Mina that he was holding on for her. That really sucked.

I never knew Yuri iRL but he trusted me enough to have done some special videos for me. Nothing, porn-related though. And besides, I swore to him that they will never be placed online. Call it a promise from beyond the grave.

Okay so, I ended up buying this unfinished mask on etsy expecting it to be crap, but I'm actually pretty satisfied with what I got. There are so many horror stories of people buying things on etsy and just getting garbage, and that's what I geared myself up for, but this seems like a decent base to me. It's not perfect, there are plenty of rough spots that I'm going to have to sand and prime myself, but in all fairness I didn't buy this expecting a finished mask ready to wear out of the box, I bought it expecting a project. What I really like is that it actually is fiberglass and resin like a real kig, not clay or paper mache or whatever other bullshit some western kiggers try to pass off.

There are some ridges on the top and back of the head that I actually contacted the maker about before I bought it, and he says that he builds these using a papercraft model as a base, and the polygons of the model show a little. It's not super noticeable and I didn't care since that part of the mask would be covered by hair anyway, but if that's a dealbreaker for others now you know. I'm just going to smooth it out a bit more myself anyway. The size is not bad, I was a little worried since it's a one size only model, but it fits my big fat American head perfectly and just slips on like a helmet. Clearly this was made with western buyers in mind and isn't a tiny doll head like some masks turn out. It's about 8 1/2 give or take from ear to ear, or where the ears go rather.

All in all, I'm not disappointed. It actually looks a bit better than the listing photos, which seems weird to me. You'd think you'd want to lead with you best foot forward on something like this. Like I said, it's not perfect, and I'm sure it's not the same quality as a Nukopan or whatever, but for a buck fifty I was expecting paper mache garbage and instead got a decent base that I'm confident I can turn into a decent kig. All I need now is to stop being fat and make some time to work on it and I hope to turn it into a kig of Onsa from Bakuon.

Seems that way, though those BJD masks don't look too good for established anime guys. Like this Ciel kig apparently cosplayed by another girl, for example. The face lacks animeish quality. Doesn't fit well, in my op.
