Bored and alone on a Saturday night? Let's play some Seihou /jp/.

Download: https://www.sendspace.com/file/3nbimx
Wiki: https://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Shuusou_Gyoku

The music is in MIDI, and it was meant to be heard on a SC-88Pro. You can listen to it here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzdQcm51guT8_7wBWFgEZia3FcGqeEqbx

This one is an interesting change of pace from Touhou, the bullets are a fair bit faster. People rarely talk about this game but I think it's pretty decent.

aka the series where ZUN's favorite characters grow wings to show their superiority over the seihou cast

This .zip contains a virus, OP.
Next time, find Seihou without a virus.
Thanks.

Also, use a website that's reputable, like dropbox, instead of that file host.

I got it to work by changing bit depth to 16 and setting compatibility to XP.

I too got it to work by switching it to 16 bit, after playing around. Works without XP compatibility, but I'll try that too.

I normally don't use Windows anyways. There's nothing left there that's actually good. Only nostalgia and twisted memories.
There's no point in trying to play closed-source games.

Download D3D windower, add Seihou and chek the "Use background priority" option, also uncheck the "DirectX 8-9" option. You'll still get minor slowdown at the very star of stage dialogues for some reason.

>>16008580
This problem was carried sincce windows 8.

>> No.16010322

Haha, I can't get the game to not be upside down. I tried all the compatibility settings
Then I tried to play anyway because how hard could it be to play upside down, right? But the textures were a complete mess and it was slow as hell

At least the menu music is nice

Seihou is the opposite of Touhou. Maybe that applies to other areas of the game too besides the name.

The name Seihou always bothered the hell out of me. Touhou is named as such because it's a game that draws heavily from eastern myth and religion. Seihou is named Seihou because... Touhou is popular? Because ZUN worked on it? I can tell you one thing, though, giant mechs/ships and flying robot maids are eastern as fuck concepts, there's no real reason for Seihou to have the name that it does.

>> No.16017019

How the fuck does this run so slowly? Do I need to play it on a PII for it to run at a reasonable speed?

>> No.16018321

Most Seihou 1 issues are fixed by using a windowing software.

>> No.16018347

>>16011185
Seihou came along before Touhou was really popular. It came around during the gap between EoSD and MS.

It's named after Touhou because it was made by ZUN's group of college buddies that also made games, and they wanted to make a sister series to Touhou.

The concept of flying robot maid isn't exactly supposed to be western. It's supposed to be the opposite of Touhou, which means Eastern. What's the opposite of Eastern? Western. What's the opposite of a Japanese human shrine maiden? A European styled maid that is also a robot.

While a flying maid robot isn't exactly a Western concept, it's still the opposite of Touhou.

>> No.16019655

>>16018347
My problem with that is that it results in a game that's only western in the most superficial way possible. It's western as a Japanese person sees western, which is ironically still very eastern.

>> No.16019764

>>16019655
To be fair, nobody knows what the future will look like, east or west. It had to be new and futuristic to be the opposite of Touhou's old and traditional style. Like I said, it's not necessarily our perception of the west, it's just the opposite of ZUN's perception of the east (which wasn't nearly as deeply rooted in tradition back in the PC98 days).

>> No.16019774

>>16019764
That would be fine and all if Touhou didn't already have heavy Sci-fi themes in PC98, especially in PoDD.

>> No.16019792

>>16019774
You kinda got me cornered on PoDD, I can't really argue that. But besides Rika, where's the other sci-fi stuff?

>> No.16019813

>>16019792
It's mostly just PoDD and SoEW.
I mean, I don't really hate Seihou or anything, I think they're good games for the most part, I'm just not a huge fan of the name.

>> No.16019821

>>16019813
The thing is, people wouldn't associate it with Touhou besides Yuuka in 2 and Reimu + Marisa in 1 without the name.

>> No.16019974

>>16019821
Why does it need to be associated with Touhou, though?
Aside from a few cameo appearances, the game series doesn't really share much in common with Touhou. It certainly isn't a shared world, there's too much contradiction between the two series.

>> No.16020067

>>16019974
It's Touhou's sister series. It's not supposed to really be intertwined, they're just supposed to be related.

It's called Seihou because:

-Something destroyed the environment. That was clearly america.
-The characters except for maybe Mei and Mai all look like european or american people.
