See it's like, with comics and stuff back in the day the origin was kind of important and usually at least one storyline would have to be dedicated to the origin story, even if it was something simple like "bit by a radioactive spider"

The X-Men were created so if Marvel had an idea for a hero or villain but didn't want to bother writing an origin story to explain their powers they could just say "I was born with them lol" and it'd be all good
