Jihad was the OP song though. I liked Dive 1's Paradigm Shift so much more (especially the vocals kicking in at the same time the battle starts), and was kind of let down that Dive 2's final boss didn't get an unique battle theme.

I would not even mind if it were on ps4 and or vita at least but to have a ps3 exclusive toheart2 girl hurts. Almost as bad a Nonchan having a route in Koichoco's psp version. I liked Utawarerumono's console version, as well as White Album on the vita, but having console exclusive content is pretty extreme. On the other hand it worked, I would have never purchased Koichoco or ToHeart2 if not for the exclusive content I was missing out on. Of course I pirated the 18+ versions to not miss out on the h-scenes as well. So their strategy is working.

One thing I found helped was skipping scenes for girls whose route I was not doing, even in the common route. It can leave weird gaps and does not work with plotge but it helps with moe/romance games.

Wait, before you decide, hear me out.

Himawari is no standard VN, no mere collection of light fun, sex, drama and romance. It's one of the most beautiful works of literature I've ever read. You want to appreciate it in its fullest, to give yourself the ultimate experience. Because it's one of those VNs you will rue for the rest of your life the fact you can never read it for the first time again.

Now, it's true I felt the change to the sex scene was very poorly done. But the remake is better in many other ways. The most important one is the addition of voice acting, something which adds immense depth to the dialogue and the raw emotion behind the girls. In particular, Ginga and Aries's voice actors stand out, giving special life and spark to their characters. But in addition, the new art is clearly superior, as you can see in my comparison posts in the last thread, and the new music is (mostly) an improvement.

It's these additional features that are what makes VNs so superior to classic novels, and you are doing yourself a disservice by reading the inferior version. CTRL through the original to see what you are missing out on, sure, but I would not recommend reading it in place of the remake.

I agree, visual novels tend to have a lot of fluff dialog that does not add to the story in anyway other than to add read time and it can get tedious, I really could not care less about where or whats MC is going to eat for lunch or his discussion with the lunch lady and how her day was.

The worst part is when you skip a scene that seemed like filler and later fell like you missed something because in that filler something was dropped.

This exactly. I've been trying out LNs recently and this lack of fluff (in that vein) is genuinely refreshing. It seems to me that searching for good VNs is basically just searching for VNs that don't indulge in constant fluff writing.

Not sure why you care about some eceleb but o.k.

Most LN are by design written in such a way as to be able to continue forever like some manga are. Which is the root of most of their problems. They are by design less a literary effort and more of a commercial enterprise, as such they pander to the lowest common denominator. You will see the great LN seldom pass 10 novels and don't touch much on typical anime tropes while shit like SAO goes on until sales die off with harems and self insert mcs.

I don't care about Steinsgate, but if you wanna play it now, you should play the Steam version, as it simply features the highest resolution artwork. (on pc at least) Regardless of which language.
That is, provided it's not a buggy mess for everyone, but I'd assume there are ways around or it's a hardware thing.. as weird as it sounds. I don't know how this can happen, as it even has the Steam cloud supported. Normally if your local save gets busted, that should be a backup. Sounds weird.

Stop being sensitive and consider what I meant by my advice.

Once you manage to learn Japanese to some acceptable level, you won't be bothered by your setup missing some lines. At this point you're clearly not there yet to read KGNE or anything similar, as evidenced by your usage of romaji or actually that whole setup at all.

What you should do is train your vocabulary and reading speed with something easier and later come back to harder works.

And of course fuck off to DJT, but others already told you that.

True, but imagine how frustrating it must be to look up words in every sentence. And consider how super long KGNE Latest Edition is. It would be much better to read some web novel on Narou instead. I only played the remake so I can only chime in from that position. Sex in Himawari has plot related stuff associated with it, but they still very clearly imply that the characters had sex off-screen in the all ages version, meaning they didn't remove sex from the story altogether.

Island is the same despite it being all-ages from the get go. The characters all but say that they had sex. In a way it feels more daring than many eroge, since eroge usually opt for the "everyone is actually over 18 years old" excuse or censor specific words whereas both Himawari and Island tell the characters' actual ages. They even joke about the "everyone in this game is over 18 years old" excuse.

Well, finished Eternal Kingdom. The story's generic as fuck: MC finds sword of plot advancement, MC finds out that he's the descendant of the previous hero that will defeat the villainous witch, she finds out and attack the village, which makes the MC go around the land to unite the other races to fight the witch just like his predecessor, fix the sword of plot advancement with the orbs that the other races has, and pick one of the girls to fuck while at it. The gameplay also the typical hack-and-slash with rpg elements, but it's there's no depth or strategy in it, other than equipping the strongest equipments that you have found along the way and spam jump+special and conserve health items on the map to fight bosses.

Overall, it's okay, but it's not like I expect much from it.

After you finish the game you can choose whose epilogue you get as long as you had their flag set. Just have to know who are possible for each route, Parshe, Byak, Rufee and Chronos+Yosaku+Saph are on Magic-route. Ashley, Kei, Ekidona+hakase+chuunibot are on Meka-route.
Difficulty is based on the difficulty level and berserk levels you put. Perosnaly I did first run on normal and switched to hard around route split, and then did the other route on very hard and one more run on chaos. And it felt about right.

By the way, are the magic and machien routes distinct enough plot-wise?

>> No.15979085

>>15978858
Yes after the route split the events start to go quite different directions and how the whole incident is solved, so both routes should be done. The routes also focus differently on heroines with Parshe being the main lead on magic-route and Chronos as most prominent support heroine, while meka-route is Ashley as main lead (you actually need to do her invidual events to access the route too as her backstory is heavily tied to to plot of the route) and Ekidona as support heroine. Should also be noted that you both Ekidona and Chronos are route locked characters too, also when doing their respective routes you really should do their invidual scenes as they are important to events and makes me wonder why the fuck those events weren't obligatory events for those routes. Ofcourse after doing both routes you can use both Ekidona and Chronos at sametime too on NG+.
Personaly I liked the meka-route quite bit more than the magic-route.

How's the gameplay to story ratio in this one?
Also how much does the story interfere with the gameplay? I'm not fond of long cutscenes in dungeons. If I'm playing, I'm playing and don't want to get interrupted too much by shit that makes me forget where I am, where I wanna go and so on. I often just hold ctrl when that happens too much or when it seems even just slightly irrelevant... which is obviously not necessarily the best thing if the story is actually existing. They can just dump that crap in the extra-menu. I know some are super against that stuff, but I do feel ero is holding back the story of quite a few eroge. Just for silly things like "heroine quota" and "lewd quota". I'd rather have the lewds make some more sense even if that means it'd be less present in the routes (or mainstory). Having the ero available a bit more "on demand" is also not such a bad thing.
Like this they could first think about the story and then about the ero. As it is I'm pretty sure a lot of eroge planning starts from heroine designs and ero plans, with the rest being secondary. Even for works that aren't nukige. Which leads to something like Hapymaher, which actually is pretty solid, but has 3 "normal" routes and a mini-route which really didn't need to exist and are even written so that not reading them is absolutely not a problem. They aren't super short or anything, but they just recycle stuff you have mostly seen in the common route already, add some more slice of life and the ero and call it a day. It's unfortunate.

I know some really don't like the ero being mostly in the extra-menu, but I feel that there's not a lot of negative stuff about it. You can still write some kind of setting around them. I don't think people mind a few minutes of "how did it come to this" when they want an ero-scene. And those who want a bit more to their porn still get it. And tons of eroge do actually unlock extra ero in the extra-menu already anyway. It's just one more step they'd need to go. Well, maybe one day. Flops like Chrono Clock will hinder that for a while, even though that one flopped for somewhat different reasons. (not enough actual ero, the overall scenario being not very popular..)

What I find conflicting about this is that nevertheless games with good stories can make bank, for example if you look at the top of EGS rankings the top games are stuff like Fate Stay Night, Oretsuba, etc games that sold on story not ero. So while ero may be first and foremost plot can still move copies. Yet, clearly, ero is what the industry is geared towards.

>> No.15982350

>>15982325
I don't think that's really the case, otherwise they wouldn't differentiate between nukige and normal eroge themselves. Ero is obviously important for non-nukige too, but for a recent example even a game like Hanahime Absolute that sells itself on cute girls got a rather poor reception despite the same liked artist being on board and the H-scenes were par for the course.

I mean, there's an extremely easy answer as to why that is: It's easier to do. My implication, which remains true for both native and foreign languages, is that if the word is so rare you don't haven't seen it or memorized it after several years of engagement, it's probably not something worth throwing into an anki deck to grind into your head. The flow of new words will NEVER stop, and worse yet, most of the new words will not be all that useful. This is all just a realistic talking, I understand and - forgive the rudeness - there can be a certain "autistic" desire to grind all words despite their relevance, if that's an urge you have and wish to satisfy, all the more power to you.

After finishing Aqua After, I kind of feel like I wish I'd just stopped after the original Himawari ending. The last thing you read in a VN is important because it's the memory you have left in your mind when you finish it, and the original ending was perfect for that. Absolutely fantastic way to end off. These extra stories are nice and all, but they really don't have the same level of impact.

I'm not really complaining, of course, the stuff is made for the people who read it when it comes out and I didn't have to go and read all this bonus stuff. Maybe next time I'll make sure to take a break and read some other stuff in-between to simulate the timelapse in release dates.

That's a "problem" for everyone, including natives reading their own languages. I know many people who had incorrect understandings of words because they simply never looked them up - the most common example I can think of is the difference between "jail" and "prison" is often lost to those who only hear about them on the news. One I've xperienced personally is the definition of "ambivalent" - I see it ALL the time as being "disinterested, not caring" even by fairly intelligent people ( http://smbc-comics.com/index.php?db=comics&id=1677 ) but in reality it means the exact opposite - "having mixed feelings, unsure, conflicted". Vocabulary acquisition for an advanced user of a language is almost entirely passive and that breeds errors.

The industry never learns though. 'Never pull a surprise nasty twists on childhood friend heroine routes' should be a number 1 rule on every romance slice of life VN ever since this happened, especially if said childhood friend is the main heroine of the game. Their route will be bland, but at least it won't start shitstorm from the people.

It's because all his titles are all-ages, popular in the EOP community, and also unvoiced. For me Higurashi and Higanbana were decent and interesting works by him. Umineko had a unique concept with how he works with meta and the definition of mystery, too bad it becomes a clusterfuck by the end. Although his writing can get stale at times as he tends to repeat himself a lot he writes likable enough characters and comes across as pretty heartfelt.

Like you said he doesn't deserve all the hate, personally I think Tonokawa Yuuto is the worst out of the three in Trianthology. We have to remember that Ryuukishi is still a doujin writer, and he isn't nearly as bad as some "professional" eroge writers.

There is a weird circle jerk around hating R07 for no reason other than his work is popular, not saying there are no reasons to hate his style of writing but most people can't articulate what they have issues with because they honestly don't know how to analyze writing and could not tell good writing from bad writing from their own ass, especially VN readers.

One issue is that he hold very eastern ideas of writing, thing like endless cycles, death not meaning death, repeating dialogue, repeating themes, even repeating scenes are very much eastern concepts that most westerns find distasteful. Especially repeating dialogue and cyclical arguments that do not end.

Another thing is he has a lot of good ideas and executes them poorly, also he is a horrible finisher, he does not know how to end a story. A good example is Lucia's route in rewrite, lots of great themes, lot's of great lines, great mood and a real sense of mystery when investigating "Haruka Asahi" but once the confession in the church scene happens and the story starts to end everything goes down hill, from the dialogue to how erratic and unreasonable the character's actions become. Koutaro's and Lucia's dialogue becomes particularly unbearable and Lucia/koutarou/shizuru/chihaya action's were soo badly written the last 30 minutes of Lucia's route I had wished all the characters would have just died in a nuclear explosion.

However at the exact same time, I had hated Lucia, as she was my least favorite character until I read her route and finnaly understood her. She also had the most amount of foreshadowing and her common route scenes all had lots of things that would become meaningful later on. It felt really planned out and a second read of Lucia's route reveals lots that you may have over looked.

R07's writing is pretty entertaining for the most part, his work does suffer from dialogue sounding to "anime" like and characters responding in overly dramatized ways and no sane human being would possibly act that way, but he gets more hate than her deserved.

All just my opinion of course.

I think because of the meta shenanigans and magic bullshit and the whole hullabaloo about the ending people often forget that the 'real' scenes with the Ushiromiya family being their wonderful abusive fucked up selves are really well done, they do the family drama well even if those particular scenes often drag.

The backstabbing, the sibling rivalries, the habits ingrained from years of shit-talking and shit-taking, that was all surprisingly realistic in a good way. They felt like genuine characters, which was so odd to find in a story so fucking far removed from 'realism'.

which makes you feel it all the more when things devolve into shit like death-flag goat-kun or Kinzo's BEATORIIIIIIIIICHE or any of the billion other memorably insane/stupid/wacky moments.

People in the vn scene don't understand nuance, they only know good or bad, kusoge or kamige. It's a sad state, but why write out a well thought out argument or synopses when most people wont read or respond to it. You are much more likely to get attention or a response buy simply saying "it's shit" or "this kamige will change your life".

Also, the visual novels scene also tends to be a huge hug box for these ecelebs and dissenting opinion, no matter who slight, nuanced or well argued, are met with hostility as questions to ones sexuality and mental capacity. Just look at this thread, there are a lot of well thought out nuanced posts that don't get responses, but say something in an absolute tone and you get all the (you)'s

>People in the vn scene don't understand nuance, they only know good or bad
How about the whole internet is like that? There's a lot of hot heads here.

People are much more likely to call something they expected to be good but turned out to be bad "shit," whereas things that they have no or maybe a passing interest in they will just push aside as "boring."

A work that you were hyped for turning out to be bad will leave a stronger negative impression than some random game you happen to try one day out of boredom, or at least that's how a lot of people see it. The fact that earlier parts were good and had potential only makes the disappointment worse.

That's how I imagined it looking at Umineko's reception anyways, haven't played it myself.

Anyone know where I can find a Japanese version of Yume Miru Kusuri? The only torrents I could find were English and Chinese. The one that I think is the Japanese version is dead.

Is there a VN where a guy finds out his mother is a prostitute and pays for her?

Is the boatlights not a heroine?

>> No.15994166

Care to give a source for that other than vndb? I don't see Takaya's gender listed anywhere, and the name Aya screams female.

He doesn't exactly make a secret of it. He frequently refers to himself as an おじさん on Twitter and such. Takaya Aya is just a silly pen name.

Okay then. There are way too many tweets on Takaya's page for a non-follower to notice. Still weird for that pen name though.

I mean, he basically invented, or at least popularized, the 男の娘 genre in eroge. Seems appropriate enough to me.

Nevermind found one. One of the Chinese torrents had both versions.
