Fairie height doesn't seem like that much of an issue- even though the games aren't a good indicator of size there are clearly larger ones (Like the four winged ones) and smaller ones.

Also I am pretty sure Tewi is using group terminology because it's less awkward rather then contradicting SSIB, IN and the magazine simultaneously. Her exact age is a mystery and it depends if she was lying in SSIB or not, but it seems to be quite old.

Cannons don't seem to be very useful in danmaku but I am sure grapeshot would make quick work of most stages if you had the ammunition

I think fairy height is just misinterpreted by authors, like how some of them have drawn two Lilys even though there's only one. You can't have other artists without them injecting fanon. Officially it does say fairies are the height of a small child and less, down to palm sized, and only rare exceptions are outside that range.
