Touko's philosophical crap is a large part of the reason why the first movie sucked.

Shiki is simply the most moe, with Fujino a close second. Azaka we haven't really seen so it's not a fair comparison, and for all Touko's nice character design, I tend to agree with >>1575338 on the Nasu bullshit and the cancer sticks.

Although she's not my personal favourite, that's something I like from the novels, since you get a better development for the main characters. And, it isn't as if side characters aren't well developed. For example, I think Fujino's story got properly developed on chapter 3; there was no need to drag her story.

It disappoints me that stories like Tsukihime or Fate/stay night - which in my opinion had good potential - weren't as good as they could have been because of the route system. Additionally, Nasu couldn't make the stories darker because VNs are supposed to be romantic (I think he said so himself, as an explanation on why Fate/Zero could be more violent, in comparison to F/sn).
