Taihou gets taiha'd at first airstrike node, sent her back figuring I had enough left over to kill CA Hime (was wrecking her in day battle before second shelling). WRONG. Support shelling scratches a destroyer, carrier planes scratch Wo and BB Hime, ABKM and KTKM both target the same scratched destroyer (at least they killed it) and then aimbot CA and BB Hime take Shokaku and Zuikaku to taiha on second shelling. Hundreds of people serve on them, spend days, weeks or months there 24/7. Ships are like a second home to many sailors and they all work together toward same goal for a long time. It's similar to what tank or plane crews feel but deeper and on much bigger scale.
Ships operate in the ocean. Every day it's just the ship and the body of water around. Furthermore, when ships sinks, you most likely go down with it because you can't survive for long in the water unless some other vessel rescues you. I think it's only natural people develop strong feeling toward them.
As for preservation, nothing comes close when you want to show your power from old days. Ships are huge, majestic, breathtaking.

Are you putting your cut in ships on the top of your fleet order? I was running Prinz (TCI, searchlight) Abukuma (minisub, TCI), Yukikaze (TCI), Choukai (DA, night plane + flare), Hatsuzuki (AACI), and KTKM (minisub, TCI).

On my last few runs I was getting past it with minimal damage surprisingly often, it was the air nodes after which tended snipe someone to red, usually when AACI failed to proc.

Is Akizuki really that rare on E4H I node? I want to farm some 10cmFD for my DDs but Poi says it's a 0.5% drop rate which is rather abysmal.

To be fair, BattleInfo in Gakada KCV can't handle airstrike nodes so if you were to get taiha'd in one you wouldn't know until that little window of time while your fleet moves between nodes and you select a formation, as opposed to it being up in your face from the beginning of the battle.
