If you are talking about the western market then even if they were doing things right it, sadly, wouldn't magically increase sales by a huge amount. People need to come back to reality and realise that VNs are still a niche market and the only runaway successes (as in Nekopara volume of sales) were because of a mix of first time exposure on steam, making them novelty at the time, and getting meme status by being picked up by big streamers and such.
That doesn't mean you can't have a sucess (see eden* as an example), it just means you shouldn't expect every thing released be it good quality or not to have runaway sale amounts.

Witch Hunt worked on Umineko, while I believe they're contracting whoever they can for Higurashi. The slow releases are definitely killing the sales but the situations are quite different since Umineko has a dedicated fan-TL group working on it, the very same group that translated the games originally and had an overall fast pace at working on them.

Higurashi is worked on by like, whoever. I think all 3 of the currently released episodes have different translators.

On the bright side, Kai likely doesn't require a complete retranslation so maybe those will get released quicker.

- They need better marketing.

- They also need to experiment more with different kinds of VNs.

- Stop with stealth releases.

- Better release dates, they need to pay attention not to release their VNs too close to other big games or games that target the same audience since most VN fans are also gamers.

- Steam was a mistake, instead of focusing on Steam they should focus on improving their own stores.

- Translating more HRPGs, HRPGs have a big community so it would increase the traffic for their sites. They dont have to go for the big well know ones, even just doing cheep RPG maker shit would help too.

- For MG:
- Releasing Higurashi in chapters instead of releasing the whole question arc together and then the whole answer arc together.
- Relesing Umineko before Higurashi is finished.
- For Liar-soft steampunk series starting with Gahkthun instead of the first one, for a game series you should always start with the first one unless its something like Final Fantasy where most games happen in different worlds.

- JAST is too slow, they need to hire more competent people.

- Sekai is doing everything wrong so no need to specify anything.

VNs don't need to be rated so hopefully all-ages games will never be touched, but that is obviously not the case because it seems like Grisaia has censorship even beyond what the All-Ages JP version had. Please explain what type of marketing. Getting some sites to talk about your upcoming releases, releases and eventually reviews isn't exactly cheap. Also, that type of marketing for a specific VN isn't the only one available o spread the word. If you look at this thread, many people talk well of MG because they not only are against censorship but they put a visible effort to localize a VN with the respect it deserves. Simply getting this sort of reputation is marketing (although I recognize that very few people follow VNTLS).

In my opinion these are the right things to do:

- Cross marketing. If there is an hentai/anime based on your VN, then strike a deal that their hentai/anime should advertise the game, and let your game advertise the movie. Potentially also involve discounts for buying one or the other.

- Picking the right titles. If you want a nudity free all-ages, PICK ONE. It is suicide to pick games that don't fit your plan and then butcher them until they resemble what you wanted. Whoever suggested popular adult games would magically become popular all-ages need to be shot.

- Equal pricing. You don't sell it for 10 dollar on Steam, 20 dollar on your own store and 50 dollars in the drug alley. Don't abuse customers, give them all equal prices. This means all-ages and adult games that share the same content. (if they share almost nothing, go ahead and set different prices)

- Crowdfunding could be a great tool for niche games. If the entire compay thinks a certain niche genre would sell terribly bad, throw up a indiegogo and see if the expected low interest is still willing to invest enough money to make it happen. (For example dickgirl VNs)

- Keep in mind that Steam = all-ages console, is a very limited view on Steam potential. It is better to see it as a PC game distribution system that can get us any PC game with any content. (As long as the heavy stuff comes in a patch)
