To the point where I feel like it's immoral to play any more games with such a setting. Generally the Empire is the recommended place to start if you are intending to play most of the series as it's where The series starts to get good. Gaia and Hypno are the best games in the series though. Also Ragnarock is only proper sequel type VB but that isn't out yet.

More like the first two VBs aren't even war games but training SLGs so they are quite different from future games. And you probably would enjoy them more if you play them later to see the "roots" of series (it was the case with me) and they are still very VB in mood. Desire was their first atempt to do something different but was kinda broken and looking for its own style and then came Empire that prety much fixed the broken things in Desire. And then every instalment kept improving things in gameplay department atleast.

But anyway, at first you get new units prety fast it slows down later on. And Empire is still prety mild when it comes to ammount of units and skills and other things to consider. You'll get hang of it along the way. And the gameplay starts to get more time taking and thinking later on in higher difficulties, although can't remember how much of it was in Empire as it's been long time since I played it.
It's the later VBs that things start to get really.... autistc

Moe and that extra route done. Thus all routes of Akatsuki no Goei done. This route is pretty forgettable if you ask me. Also a bit weird towards the end, but whatever.

All in all this was enjoyable, although I enjoyed my first three routes way more than the last ones. Also Reika ends up being my third favorite heroine of eroge I read this year. Pretty good stuff. (her route was unfortunately a mixed back) Tae is also worth mentioning, as her route was just really well done if you ask me. Her CG also seem the.. fluffiest? Kinda hard to describe, but they have a certain charm. Maybe I'm just into blondes too.

Don't hurry too much and take it easy, you get what interest you most first and take your time with things. And try to figure out things first with the things you have.
And don't worry that isn't all of the units of Hypno, there's something like 350+ units in it. But you can't really hire them all at the same time, have to choose a bit. And it's not like I remember the names of all those, even less than half. I mostly remember the "purpose" of units and what they are good at from the potrait. And as the games keeps adding more units each game the knowledge builds up bit by bit as the units "purpose" doesn't change much between the games although they get bit more balanced. So by the time Hypno becomes excel porn addiction it makes quite bit sense to you and aren't lost. This is also one of the reasons people tell people start the series with Empire, if you start from Hpyno it can be quite overwhelming. Although you don't start to play the games for proper untill the harder difficulties when you really start to have to thinking about your unit compositions and all. And there is just one right way to do things so you can find your own way just expirimenting what the many options it gives you, it's one of the things where the enjoyment in the series comes to me.

Funny, but I think one of the biggest issues of eroge is that they get dragged out. Writers get payed by moji or some crap, and games need to be "longer and longer" in general I feel.. or else it's hard to explain why eroge generally get longer and longer these days.

The stuff I read recently had mostly more problems with things getting dragged out too much rather than rushing. One eroge that actually had quite a bit of a problem with length was actually only like 5 hours long. And had 4 routes. And even then there were parts that dragged or just didn't even need to exist. Though not nearly as much as with some full length eroge.


So yeah, I like my "not that long" eroge.

Yeah, the side routes in Leyline 1 and 2 are pretty much an afterthought and you'll only enjoy them if you really, really like the specific heroines and even then it's a stretch. The main plot gets shoved away completely, followed by very fast lead up to confession and fucking, then the game ends without any credits.

Luckily clearing them isn't required for the main ending and Ushio's epilogues, and since there's no plot revelations in side routes you won't miss anything by skipping them altogether. The devs probably realized this themselves as the third game has the bonus stuff / non-canon heroine routes after the main story.

Just finished chapter 1 and it seems to be a quite fine moege. Some weaknesses that kinda come with the genre, but overall enjoyable. (i.e. I find it weird that you get random fanservice like you get in shounen ecchi manga in in an eroge. I think the idea is that it's easy to manage and not be unduly influenced by lust in this state, if you're always looking for sex and looking to be turned on you will be.
As for romance, well, thinking of sex as the ultimate romantic pay off is likely just you fooling yourself. Held hands, a kiss, mutual love and understanding, that's all more "payoff" for romance than watching them fuck. Sex can be nice spice for a romantic story but it's not the pay-off at all.
Not to mention, not like all-ages game even with romance have value only in the romance. You could want to read an all-ages game because the author is good, or the jokes are funny, or the story interesting, and so on.
