I guess you could say the Lunar Capital is a "traded liberty for security" situation. By avoiding all impurity, they live forever but lose the ability to care about things.

Before they came to Earth, Eirin and Reisen were basically high-functioning sociopaths, and Doremy says that all moon rabbits are like that.
Every other Lunarian character we've seen has been "tainted by Earth" to some degree, softening this behaviour (Kaguya spent years on Earth, Sagume is part-amanojaku or something, and the Watatsukis say that other Lunarians don't trust them because they can sense their earthiness). The average Lunarian is presumably worse than that.

The Lunar Capital is more of a stand-in for China than America though. Japan traditionally saw itself as a "street-smart" nation who could borrow China's vast knowledge and use it better than they did, which is more or less Yukari's modus operandi (both the Great Hakurei Barrier and the spellcard rules are implied to be based on Lunarian stuff). The Outside World is closer to an America stand-in.

The Outside World is just our world though. Gensokyo avoided Japan's Westernization by sealing itself off, but it's all a big joke about how Japan itself was sealed off from the world and seen as a land of mystery.

Sagume did nothing wrong. She defended her people shitty though they are, she outsmarted Junko by requesting Eirin's/earthlings' help, executed her plan of getting Eirin's attention without ever alerting the rabbits (i.e. low-rank citizens) to the real danger, only engaged the heroines in a test battle (notice how Sagume is the only one who breaks the duel off before her clothes get damaged), isn't above changing her plans when help is offered by those who should by rights be beneath her, and ultimately succeeds in defending the Capital without a large-scale panic or long-lasting damage of any sort.

Sagume is a clever character and a good mother to her people.

Why would you want to do that? Of course you wouldn't believe me, but they're trying to preserve the Earth's integrity. Have you ever heard about Project A119, about how US wanted to detonate a nuclear bomb on the Moon? Watatsuki sisters prevented this from happening as the nuclear bomb could have shifted the Moon's orbit, and caused it to shift away from Earth. This would be devastating not just for Moon but also Earth.
If anything, you should thank them for preventing this catastrophe from occurring. To kill your entire population just for a 'show of force', out of selfish capitalistic whim? Do you really want that?
