Eva and Hideyoshi specifically went off to their room without anyone following or guiding them. Since it was apparently so far away that even Genji thought he needed a buddy to go there, it doesn't make sense that this room as assigned to Eva and that they showed her it earlier.

Also, Eva presumably wanted to leave on her own so the servants wouldn't be sure which room she'd take. Given that she has to suspect the servants, it'd be insane for her to obediently go into her assigned room. There servants could easily find out which room they were in from the sound of the TV, or by knocking.

It's not major and is mentioned very vaguely in passing when Lambda mentions that she had a game against Bern in the past, and the manga is a bit more explicit in explaining that Takano was Lambda's piece.

Therefore, Bernkastel is the crystalization of all of Rika's negative memories. Since Takano was Lambdadelta's piece, Lambda tortured Bernkastel out of Rika.

While I got less bothered by the new sprites as it went on, Maria, Bern, Lambda and the Stakes really bugged me to the end. That said, I really liked the expressions Beato and Eva-Beato had. I think I still prefer the PS3 sprites in general, but whatever. Maybe the PS3 sprites and voices will be modded in later.

All in all, the new translation really is worth it. Makes me excited to replay Chiru when it comes out.

Once you've got a nude piece you can add whatever clothes you like on top of it. Or you can put the nude underneath their original sprite and erase any parts you'd like to strip off. Either way, when you start by making them totally naked it makes later pieces much easier.

No, it's not you. The artist clearly didn't know where her hips were and just added the knees anywhere. He tried to correct the angle of Ryukishi's original sprite and made it worse.
If you mentally try to pinpoint Bernkastel's hips and relate it to her knees, she has insanely long legs.
If you end up removing her clothes, it'll look extremely deformed unless you correct the mistake yourself.

I actually tried that before, but her legs kept throwing me off.

But I think I figured out how to interpret the magic stuff; It's all fake. I can base this off the author making sure he used Red text with the earlier flashback 1967 scene. He specifically said this one existed. Why would he place this one scene beyond doubt if he wanted all those magic scenes to be believed? He wouldn't. Hence all the magic Battler is seeing is fake.

Now, as for who done it; So far, we have two suspects, the Doctor Nanjo and Kinzo himself. All the servants are dead in separate rooms, but all the adults and the kids have alibi's. So it had to have been one of them, and it also had to have been one of the 18, seeing as there are only 18 people left on the island (confirmed by red). As much as I hate to say it, the anime did provide a good model. It just didn't do it right. The meta scenes freezes everything in static, witches vanishing, etc.

What the hell is up with chapter 3. I'm in parts both confused as to what happened and mad at the shit I do get.

SO Beatrice was not in fact a good witch, Virgilia was just a puppet the whole time and it was all a ruse to get Battler to admit that witches exist. This is what I got from that ending

But this still leaves out several important pieces of information. Was Child-Eva ever really the Endless witch? I'm guessing so because she could use the Red, other witches came in for her coronation. But if it was all a ruse, why did Beato need to use the Red against her? That and in the after party (for some reason the witches tea party and the after party are reversed for some reason?) the blonde witch threatens Beatrice, saying that she loaned her power to make the Ruse work, and she was pissed that it didn't. So was it real after all?

That and what exactly does the author want me to do with the Red? Because Eva-Beatrice using the red like that basically confirmed that witches have to exist. You can't logically solve that puzzle if you take into account that the Red is fact. So should I doubt the red?

And my GOD what is going on with Beatrice. I played the part 4 intro after doing 3, and she seems actually concerned for Battler. Yet she absolutely fucked him over last game- mercilessly. Because it was a ruse- Maria and Rose dying about 100 torturous deaths really was just Beato keeping up with the ruse. So plainly she shouldn't care what Battler thinks, because he'll always consider her a monster and also not real. Yet she seems actually concerned. She I just disregard fucking ALL the magical stuff? But that's about three quarters of the game. And I now can't trust the Red, because the red either has to be false or Eva-Beatrice using it never happened, but then I need to select what parts did and did not happen? My personal input is in the middle of all this discussion (gonna number my shit too):

1- Like the other anon implied, they are all main characters very important to the story, they were just not really that much developed compared to the other, and this is also why you didn't care that much about them (side characters being people like the family of Kumasawa or Nanjo that only appeared once or twice during the whole story, for investigative purposes).

I personally loved Hideyoshi's cool uncle character, and his extraordinary quotes and moments during episode 3 (both regarding Eva).

Not too much into Gohda other for the memes tho -and Nanjo did have some essential backstory compared to these two imo-

2-Like you well said, Umineko can be many genres, but it's undeniable the main one is Mystery, and so, the literary analysis should count around that mostly.

3- Saying what you said kinda implies the story is pointless for anyone in the world that wasn't there with the characters (both meta-wise and not), and, while this was a very clever plot point in EP8, I don't think it should be paired with the relevance of each character in the story and their overall development as a whole.

4- I think just like you about Ryukishi spending time in something extra during the time before the comiket, but at the same time, I see no problem on him doing some little stories for his fans sake.
Actually, I found that to be really nice. Since the stories are quite short, besides being well-thought, I think he also don't think of them as waste of energy, and more likely as "funny shorties" or something.

Okonogi is a special side character, so, I'm sure he will be given more attention in no time.

Btw, Erika is one of the said 4 protagonists/detectives by Ryukishi himself , in Umineko, so I really wouldn't said that she is a side one, besides appearing in less than half of the episodes.

And talking about that, Willard is listed as a main character by Ryukishi just because of him being a detective for Episode 7, so, I guess this whole MC-SC in Umineko really depends, and that we "shouldn't think too much about, it will only get us a headache", just like Natsuhi's.

People waiting for the mystery to be 100% explained by the end of the book even when all the answers can be found through a second reading of the story might be one of the things that Ryukishi was sad about, when he personally treated this work as a game between him and his readers.

So as it turns out, the arc.nsa file in the Steam version of Umineko has CGs! You can even toggle them on if you mess with settings in the text files, but it doesn't seem to be 100% implemented.

There's even Episode 5-8 and endgame ones too.
