Will I support R07 in any way if I buy this steam release?

I already read the VN 3 times and the manga once, so this purchase would just be to support R07.

On a side note, did they use the original BGM/SFX? I think the Higu release had removed ones.

This is probably the last thing we're going to see about Umineko in a while, so I think it's worth the price (and it's very cheap too) Also, for the oldfags, the expressions of the characters in the new art is very faithful to the old one. Like, I don't mind you or anyone torrenting the VN. I myself do that everytime with my movies and anime. But, if you really love Ryukishi and want his works to get more space and attention in the west, you really should buy at least a copy for yourself.

I'm gifting Umineko to some of my friends because he deserves that money (even if most part will go to Manga Gamer, since they are localizing it, it doesn't change the fact Ryukishi will be thankful and more than glad to present us more visual novels, just like Manga Gamer and other translation groups will be glad to work in more translations of his works for us.

In short, if you want to make everyone in this circle happy and have a bigger chance of getting the community big enough for them to translate his future works, give them some money for it.

That's how the industry works...

And that's how we teach the damn modest Ryukishi (that is too much of a nice guy) that money actually matters, and not just people reading an enjoying his works all over the world no mattering how they acquire them in first place).

How do you feel about Moogy-denka's sentiments about Umineko?

https://www.reddit.com/r/visualnovels/comments/4pov9s/list_23_vns_you_have_decided_against_reading_and/d4ndixi

>Hi, I read the entirety of Umineko as it came out and I feel like I'm being generous when I give it a 4/10. It's a convoluted mess that reads like it was written by a 12 year old. The Japanese fanbase refuses to so much as give Ryuukishi the time of the day nowadays for good reason.

...

>I don't know how the western fanbase continues to put up with Ryuukishi, and I honestly feel that it's damaging to the community as a whole to continue to obsess this much over a single work so long after the fact. The amount of Umineko discussion is one of the reasons people who read untranslated eroge feel so disconnected from the broader western fanbase, and it's not hard to see how stifling this level of obsession can be if you take a step back. This applies to other games as well (Fate and Majikoi, for example) and I suppose to a degree it comes part and parcel with the reality that you guys are exposed to such a tiny slice of what's out there, but when the game in question is something as obviously and majorly flawed as Umineko, I can't help but feel a sense of unease, I guess you could say.

...

>Honestly, I shouldn't have even posted in here. The way I approach the medium as a whole and what I look for out of eroge/VNs are simply too far removed from the western fanbase's to have any sort of meaningful discourse with people using translations, and I accept that. But at the same time, as someone who helped build the community as it is today, I guess I'm unable to fully suppress my irritation at the way it hasn't developed into the ideal I imagined for it over the years.

>> No.15517915

wait, that makes no sense.
First of all: "Upon bankruptcy, a firm will be required to sell all of its assets and pay off all debts. The usual order of debt repayment, in terms of the lender, will be the government, financial institutions, other creditors (i.e. suppliers and utility companies), bondholders, preferred shareholders and, finally, common shareholders."

As you can imagine, if you sell your assets you won't be able to continue your work so firm closes down.

Also: "A bankrupt company's assets are transferred to its creditors. This includes intangible assets such as trademarks, copyrights, and other intellectual property."

So you are saying they went bankrupt, but didn't sell their all assets (like the right to the voices) and somehow become able to continue existing? Then it wouldn't be called a bankruptcy (since they could pay off their debts)

>> No.15519906

EP1 ST. All crimes are supposed to be solvable to the reader by the time they're discovered and Battler inspects them and all that. Witch Hunt used "storehouse" to refer to that garden shed thing exclusively, which is wrong.

They're both a thing. There's a scene in EP 2 where Kanon compares himself to a duck and gets into an argument with Jessica about it, and then there's the turtle meme the EP 2 mangaka created, since Kanon and the Japanese word for turtle both start with 'ka'. Not many were that negative about it in the last thread either. Overall those are pretty nice as well (personally, I don't like some of the aspects chosen, like the little tooth thing in Lambda being too noticeable, orsome facial expressions being kinda lacky).

Main thing though is certainly Krauss. He is undeniably ugly in his sprite. Like he just came from the moon and suffered a lack of oxygen before returning to earth.

I've never really heard anything like it to be honest, but it's definitely some genre of electronic music. Some of the songs use techno as well, some even use a choir. And then there's all the other kinds of songs in Umineko like Far or Towering Cloud in Summer which I have no idea how to categorize.

I had this theory a long while ago that witches didn't exist and that the reason that Lambda looked like Miyo while acting like Satoko was because of Tohya's broken memories. He used Rika to create Bernkastel but mixed the blond lolis to create Lambda. The basis of this theory was that Battler referenced having read Higurashi in ep 1.
It was a nice theory but it didn't fit with witches existing in Higurashi or Lambda existing before the events of Higurashi to grant Miyo wish. Not to mention that ep 1-2 were stories written by Beatrice and were fictional and not from Battler's viewpoint.

That's when I came to a new realization; Lambda was faking it. Throughout the entire story, Lambda can never be taken seriously unless she acts seriously and drops her facade. She drops that facade in the tea party ep 2 when she tells Beatrice to play more seriously and in ep 4 when she convinces Ange to not play seriously. My theory is that Lambda acts like an airhead because she wants to be closer to Bernkastel. She wants to act like Bernkastel's best friend in a weird sadistic love sort of way.
Just look at it from Bernkastel's point of view. Lambda is the person responsible for the collective negative Rika memories of 100 years of suffering that encompasses her, and she's pretending to be her best friend.
That's having your worst enemy pretending to joke around with the corpse of your best friend to get you to lighten up. It's so fucked up in a way that would only make sense to a witch.

Yes, we know. You always post the same. You don't need write a book of theories to understand that they don't really love each other for real (their relationship is based on control). Maybe they honestly think they are actually in love, people are dumb after all and we don't live with a mirror attached to our forehead to see ourselves being dumb, but it's not true love. They just want to OWN their partner, to posses them and throw it away later. Possessive relationships are condemned to destroy themselves, and that's exactly the kind of game they love the most. The Worst:

The 6th was the weakest, but still very well written (specially the stuff about the logic error and the whole frigde brilliance behind it), and the 8th, besides having some shonen battle galore was surprisingly well executed (probably a callback to Higurashi, but way better made and with a coherent context).

>Also, 4 and 7 were espectacular (these are my favorites instead), not sure what you disliked on those either (maybe the pacing for the 4th).

4 felt overly long, and the pacing was indeed terrible. I did not enjoy the Ange bits at all, and those are a big part of the novel.
7 also felt very long. I did not mind Will and Leon but the entire Clair story really dragged on and bored me. EP7's tea party however is my favourite part of the entire series, so much is forgiven.

I guess we all have different tastes, and there's nothing wrong with that. I still don't really see what's wrong with EP6 though. Your quote only says "it was the weakest, yet I loved all of these parts", basically. I don't understand why it's the least favourite episode by such a vast majority.

People got so upset in that period of time. I remember that one guy creating an 8 hours long video explaining a theory where Rosa was Beatrice and shit, and the funniest thing was him trying to avoid the clear as water implications on Episode 6 about Skannontrice.

But overall, people on futaba solved the whole whodunnit thing during episode 3 (together with the epitaph), so, the theory backlash was waaaaay bigger in here, since most people couldn't even decipher the epitaph before the answer outside Japan anyway, imagine get all those hints that only got updated now with the new translation..

Like, it was the weakest because the other episodes were even better (overall narrative, presentation, twists and character interactions/developments felt fresher in the other episodes), not because it was bad

Or at least that's what I intended to say. But again, this is kinda my opinion about it, I don't really hate any part of Umineko in the least.

I'm still upset that Gohda, Nanjo and Hideyoshi all didn't get a battle scene. Although I read a great Nanjo fight scene a few threads ago.
Is there anyone else I'm missing? Did Kumasawa get one? Does the one where she turns into Virgilia count?

"I can't lose in the kitchen!"
One of my favourite lines by Ryu-chan from one of the side-stories where characters come up to Battler and ask if they can have a cool fight scene in his upcoming game. I'd have loved for Gohda to be able to shout this at an attacker, fighting them in his own domain, the kitchen.

The explanation in the original VN, as well as the manga and the anime, is that Battler was drunk, which makes him an unreliable narrator. Erika mentions in Episode 5 that she doesn't drink because she would lose her detective authority if she got drunk

I found 7 to be the least enjoyable overall.

>The most popular characters all get replaced by some random Marry Sue who solves the game after speed reading it.

>The first third of the episode is literally just Will and Lion walking around talking to random people to get exposition via boring flashbacks in an attempt to spoonfeed the answers to the reader.

The Tea Party was great, but the rest of Requiem is just plain boring.

We should blame our own community incompetence for a "direct answer" episode like that.

Funny enough, even then, people still thought Umineko wasn't properly answered somehow (prob speedreading/no re-read at all), which is hilarious.
