We had a thread of MMOs and I suddenly realized something very strange that I can't understand.

Why can't /jp/ have MMO(rpg) threads that don't devolve into advertisement of /vg/ groups and/or drama in general?
Is the only way to avoid this achieved by joining japanese servers of said games?

>>15477428
/jp/ doesn't have enough people in it is why.

Face it, /vg/ ran off with most of the traditional /jp/ topics a long time ago.

>> No.15477467

I can't imagine there are a lot of people that are willing to play an MMO on a japanese server. Not so much because of the language barrier but because of the latency issues. No one wants to play a timesink game with 300ms at all times.

You also generally need people to make MMOs successful so obviously people will suggest joining some stupid /vg/ guild over having a 4 man /jp/ guild.

Drama is created since most MMOs currently available in english are shit and the people who play them will defend them to the death because they spent 2000 hours in it already. Try shit talking tree of savior and see what happens.

Also MMOs are kind of shitty now.

It's a spiraling event of issues by itself, /vg/ makes threads to get more people into their MMO, /jp/ starts to avoid MMO topics and it just goes on a endless loop for that and suddenly the only threads related to online games are either phone card games or people from other boards coming in to advertise.

>>15477467
Not meaning to be an undelightful fellow here, but where does one have to live to get 300ms to japan and not to US/EU?

I'd love to play an MMO with /jp/ but the fact is that there's not many people on /jp/ or /jp/sies playing MMO.

Sadly all the other board have way shittier community, so playing MMO's with /vg/ or /a/ is a big no.

I played TERA on US servers on 250 ping for about a year. I got angry and stopped playing one day when I got fed up with trying to enjoy the game but being at an inherent disadvantage to other players. It feels like I'll never be good at any online games.

I'd love to play some non-MMO games with /jp/, but we're ultimately limited by the rules of /jp/. 99.99% of Japanese games are on /vr/, /vg/, and /v/ leaving us with very little to play. I wish I had a chance to play Terraria with /jp/, but I do acknowledge that it's not /jp/ material.

Well I remember getting 300ms on something from Japan, so Canada I guess. Although it seems highly technical, it's just a vague number I used. Would you be satisfied if I changed it to 200ms?

My point is there's a pretty big difference from 40ms and 200+ms latency and some people aren't willing to go through that.

>>15477505
I'm impressed you managed to stick it out for so long. I could understand in a point and click cookie cutter MMO but for a game where you actually have to move around and such it must have taken some getting used to. I guess you got the experience the game from a BR point of view though.

The issue here is that nobody goes for it, /jp/ lacks any team leaders these days.

In fact, everything MMO related lacks team spirit these days.

I guess making a minecraft thread here would be deleted immediately though.

I got bored and tried playing Minecraft single player again recently. It's fun, but it feels like the end game is extremely easy to reach once you find a single mineshaft or ravine and get a couple of diamonds.

If you dressed it enough /jp/ things you might be able to get away with it. Back in the day I think somebody had an entire copy of Gensokyo on their sever.

But back then /jp/ had no rules, though, so it's very much a "might".

I would do it but I don't like any of the current MMOs.

I've always been the best /jp/ team leader because I'm helpful and selfless and want everyone to have a good time.

That's a difficult question. All the recent years have kind of melded into each other.

Current probably means made in the last 1-5 years. But who knows really.

Let's just play something, from maplestory to tera, I don't even care about what game it is at this point.

Maybe /jp/ could organize an effort for a Touhou mod for something like Minecraft or Terraria or something else. Could be fun.

That guy who wanted /jp/ to play Wizardry with him bugged the mods to push other MMORPGs off /jp/ and into /vg/, so all the people who wanted to play MMORPGs were forced to assimilate into /vg/. There's no base of /jp/ MMORPG players anymore. Also this is one of /v/'s favorite places to shitpost, so any thread about games is tempting them to come and be retards.

Well it works for DoTA, so /jp/-style mods of games are probably okay.

Speaking of, Mabinogi might be getting a Fate/Stay Night event soon in the NA version, if any /jp/sie want's to log into their old accounts.

I remember back in the days when /jp/ played a different MMO each month. Fun times playing the world of tanks beta. But it's not really something you can replicate today. Things are much more accessible nowadays and many things are now almost mainstream. The barely known game that is actually really good doesn't really happen anymore, if something is good it will become popular. Next to that in the old days you could post whatever you wanted here and the janitor was happy about any threads that isn't trash, shitposting and dicks waiting to be deleted.
Mostly people just wanted to play with people from /jp/, but with rules being enforced there isn't really a good way to do this anymore. Finding a new game each month (cause lets face it they mostly are not very good) that fits the bill of not being translated, being otaku and so on seems impossible.

Even back during tanks there was drama.

All guild/clan/team discussion should just be banned. It never leads to good things.

>>15477838
It doesn't have to not be translated. MMO threads did occasionally live, but any one that got full of typical /vg/ stuff and people talking about Tera got deleted.

I don't really understand why RO's been a particularly large exception though. there's even an RO thread still up.

In any case, this thread is more or less a meta thread and not even a thread about a game. I don't really expect it to last long.

I thoroughly enjoyed old maplestory and mabinogi with /jp/

A shame we managed to bring along enough awful people to get both games IP restricted though.
