how do japanese feel about their names? names that are literally common words like yuki, hajime, saki, etc.
for westerners its like naming someone "tree" or "snow". don't they find it weird to be named after common words that you hear everyday?

A lot of western names are taken from latin or hebrew and they usually have a meaning as well. And although most of us don't speak either of those languages I still feel like it's not that much of a difference from Japanese.

I wonder how the majority of western people feel about having the same last name after the color of shit.

>> No.15424724

It's not like our names don't have meanings, it's just that they're in mostly dead languages.

Are you actually allowed to give your child a Japanese name if you're in Europe or America? I mean, I have a hebrew name according to my mother but could you just go and tell them that I want my daughter to be named Reimu?

Theres no naming restrictions in the US, but there have been cases of courts stepping in and saying "no" and not issuing birth certificates if you try to name your kid Shitballs McGee or something incredibly dumb.

Why would you name your nonexistent daughter after that bitch?

Your parents will reveal themselves as massive weaboos but there's nothing strictly saying you can't name a non-Japanese child a Japanese name. (I've never seen it myself.)

Actually now that I think about it, wasn't there this one /jp/sie that named his daughter after a 2hu, maybe? Or was that just my imagination. I swear it's real.

I think some parents choose these names because the kanjis are cool.

Western names usually don't derive from common words but are rather adjectives like winner, rich, kind, etc. or from social roles like priest, prince, and so on, or from the name of a god

For fucks sake this is photoshopped.
I knew I should have saved the proof because I didn't think people would keep spouting this same dumb shit for years.
