It's more likely that whatever library 4chan uses for handling image uploads recognizes APNG but hasn't added support yet, so it returns an error, rather than just working with it...

APNG is fucking retarded anyway.

It's Mozilla's poorly designed bastard child and it's huge. 3 MB wouldn't get you far, even if you used paletted mode with just 256 colors.

tl;dr: Don't be a faggot, use GIF. APNG is for Firefox's interface, that it actually renders on web pages is just an artifact.

4chan most likely uses either GD2 or imagemagick, I don't think imagemagick supports APNG, not sure about GD2

Apparently 4chan doesn't use code in http://foone.org/apng/identify_apng.php, contrary to what Eksopl said -- I made APNG that is not detected by this code, but 4chan still doesn't accept it.

Did anyone save image from http://archive.easymodo.net/jp/cgi-board.pl/thread/865616 ? Pretty please?
