What? I think of the term ‘palette’ as meaning a collection of colors, I don't know what you mean by separating it into regions of space.

Sorry, I meant applying colors in certain regions when converting from one palette to another.

I could manually fill and desaturate, but that would take a while.

>> No.15329898

>>15329856
Oh, I think I know what you mean. What I would do is create a layer underneath the image, fill it with the target color, then turn the original color to transparency in the original image. That should correctly handle the edges, where the original color is partially blended. If there are few colors, that should work.

(Apologies if that's not what you mean. If you're talking about complicated things like sRGB <-> Adobe, I have no idea.)

>FTP servers don't have any downsides compared to sadpanda
If FTP servers still function like they do in the 90s:

1. They have less means of resistance against DMCA threats
2. They are usually hosted by companies or ISPs which accept DMCA claims
3. Because of points 1 and 2, the servers must generally either be password-protected, or have some means of obfuscation to direct access, limiting the ease of access, stability, and total collection of its archives
4. They often do not have fallback solutions, while Sad Panda does (H@H for DDOS/bandwidth, and hitomi.la among others for archivers)
5. They do not have tagging systems without an abstracted HTTP interface.

These ALL apply to any FTP server I have used, including one of my favorites, Madokami. I would also know, since I run a pomf instance and share limited access for an FTP share.

FTP is only better if you are dealing with copyright-unencumbered content, you are hosting out of China or a similar state, or Sad Panda is simply not an option.

Basically, I prefer something where someone does not have to know someone, or be "in the know", to access the content and have it lorded over them, and there are two websites which pull that off very well for /jp/ content: Danbooru (and Gelbooru), and Sad Panda.

The solution to the first thing you mentioned would be to increase the number of homes with FTP servers. If half the world population has FTP servers with some sort of content on them, more servers will have the content you're looking for.
The solution to the second would probably be some descriptive text files.

>>15336507
>Can you give actual technical reasons why the FTP protocol is worse than some shitty website?
Sure

First off, HTTP servers, due to their inherent nature of serving large number of multiples of pages to a large of clients, are convenient for a system where you navigate on a page-by-page linear basis, such as a doujinshi reader. FTP was constructed with a few clients in mind, and for sending non-interactive files in general. Unless you are SPECIFICALLY trying to get a permanent backup of all the image files on your own system, which is what I believe you would find to be ideal, HTTP is much better for processing multiple, individual requests for specific images (Even better if you use Nginx instead of Apache). Further more, E-hentai re-encodes the images to a (usually) smaller jpeg file (unless its a GIF or APNG), which for most users, is convenient, as it reduces time to view the qualitative information found in each image. Like the fappable bits.

Beyond this, Hentai@Home takes the stress of the E-hentai servers, and makes DDOSing the site nearly impossible, since anyone from anywhere can take the responsibility for completing your image request. Also, Cloudflare and similar services have made DDOSing much more difficult for HTTP. FTP is laughably easy to DDOS unless you are sitting right at the helm of the console, doing the rate-limiting and network filtering on your own part (if there is an equivalent to CloudFlare for FTP, please correct me).

>>15336526
>The solution to the first thing you mentioned would be to increase the number of homes with FTP servers.
Most ISPs explicitly forbid home servers, and most people can't be damned to learn how to do it, or maintain the server and protect against hijacking, DCMAs (yeah, the law does matter when its in your ISP's contract), and such. Second, that doesn't solve the problem of having a centralized database from which to access (while e-hentai has centralized access *and* decentralized hosting).

>The solution to the second would probably be some descriptive text files.
How do you process and filter those files without some of PHP/JS utility?
grep?
CTRL+F?

If I want to find a doujinshi which contains:
>Touhou
>Chen
>NOT Reimu
>NON-H
>English

How do you make that more easily indexed in a text file, than with an actual tagging system? Description is not the problem, its the parse-ability which makes tagging so heavenly.

If you think laws matter, you're welcome to overthrow the government. It would be good for freedom and society anyways.

I think I see what you mean. I don't consider backups to be ideal, but I do consider downloading a .tar of all the images to be ideal, rather than viewing them one by one in a browser. Then you can view all the images locally in your choice of image viewer.
I think a good pf configuration would be helpful, but unfortunately I am not that advanced yet. I am still working on my FTP server. I'm going to reinstall my OS, OpenBSD, so I can experiment with it more.

ISPs forbidding things is the same problem as "do laws matter"
If capitalists are forbidding things, capitalism must be overthrown. If the state is forbidding things, the state must be overthrown. Simple as that: users and providers shouldn't need to be taking evasive action at every moment of their lives.
Centralisation is a bad thing.

I don't have the solution for how to make tags work, yet. I just know that the web is not the beginning and end of file distribution. The web works in some circumstances, but I feel it works well in far fewer circumstances than people believe.

While I don't disagree with your ideological points, its just my habit to take pragmatic routes within the current system than to rub against it.

At the core of my view: people who have more wealth and social, and political power than myself may or may not have a stake in the property which is being hosted, and could very well make my current existence more miserable without ever seeing me, considering me, or suffering any tangible cost on their part. As long as you can skirt by under their radar, or find someway to collectivize culpability beyond the feasibility of litigation, I am quite content with assisting and piggybacking on that.

The law is not just, but it does have unequal applicability over the majority. Avoid triggering it in the first place, and the consequences will also (for the time) be avoided.

>I think a good pf configuration would be helpful, but unfortunately I am not that advanced yet. I am still working on my FTP server. I'm going to reinstall my OS, OpenBSD, so I can experiment with it more.

Nice choice. pf is miles better than iptables for sane rule-making. But if you are ever stuck on Linux, do yourself a favor and use ufw to make bulletproof iptables configs from which to tune. Personal tip.

I think pragmatism is okay to an extent. I know we'll always need TCP since packet loss will always exist somewhere in the solar system. Stuff like that. But when other people, i.e. the people in power, get in the way of using simpler or better technologies, that's ridiculous. The only problems people should experience are those unavoidable ones caused by living in this universe.

I understand that. I know it too well since certain aspects vital to who I am as a person are made pretty tough to live with by the state. I just some day want to make it so that people can spend less effort on evading the powerful, and more effort on doing things they enjoy. It's just a waste of man-hours, as it is today.

I've actually never studied or used GNU/Linux much, only FreeBSD and OpenBSD, but if I do, I'll try to remember this point. Does it have any weird dependencies, since it seems as though mostly only Debian/Ubuntu use it?
