How much better/worse is Army dog/2BB/3DD for E-5? 4DD/2CAV just won't stop choking on dicks at the preboss, despite route support. I don't think I'll be doing E-6 on hard anymore.

Just shot down all Re's bombers in the pre-boss node of 5-5. I didn't even realize that was possible. Getting that kind of roll for planes shot down is like winning the lottery but that made me realize how interesting it would be if you could fly land based fighter squadrons in 5-5. You should be able to disable almost all enemy planes on that map. 5-5 would become a complete joke which in contrast would probably mean even more enemy power creep in future maps. I'm already imagining maps where pre-boss nodes have AS (not AS+) requirements not in the hundreds but in thousands. Scary

First squadron gets 2 greens with weaker bombers. Second squadron gets 1 green with stronger bombers.

Since your problem is with the preboss you can send 1 of the second squadron's strikes to the preboss (and the other to the boss). Or you can go 4 bombers and send both strikes to the preboss, if you're that desperate.

Then use aerial support for route, with the 4 CVs with the highest plane counts (I used Kaga + Taihou + farmed cranes kai). Give them your best blues (or reds if you don't have enough blues). And fix your boss support to 2 BB 2 CV while you're at it.

As for your 4 DD 2 CAV placement I can't say much since your setup looks viable, but I stuffed 1 CAV on top for a strong first strike at night and one in the last slot as an anchor. But that one's up to you, really.
