Why is ZUN's art so bad?

Because nobody plays touhou for the art.

At least he's good at everything else.

With the passage of time I ended up loving it.
I guess it's the same process that applies when you visit sadpanda and see all those weird ass fetish tags and before you realize it you're suddenly fapping to them every day.

Honestly I find his style really endearing, and kind of nostalgic. Simpler times.

Nostalgia seems to be a common theme with him. Maybe its somewhat intentional?

I find it endearing. Sakuya's EoSD art is actually pretty cute.

ZUN's art is unique. Not bad.

It's not bad anymore. Especially in LoLK he's finally found out how to draw.
His Marisa looks perfect!

Make that 'extremely'. If you read his afterwords and interviews and so on, he brings it up a lot.

It's an act. He's actually able to ape 90s manga style quite nicely, and has shown his ability to draw on paper and pencil well: he's just not good at digital. Pad messes with your perspective.

There's this one image of Marisa from the PC-98 games that shows what I mean, but I can't seem to find it...

Zun is the smug master, his art is good

>> No.15291362

It's an immediately recognizable and kind of trippy style of art. Better than generic, manufactured moeshit. It's weirdness fits the occult themes and quirky tone of the game.

I know what you are talking about. I've seen some ZUN pencil drawings and thought to myself, "Why doesn't the in-game art look like this?".

This is not tracing though. It's not an obscure fact he references a truckload of old manga (even Yukari is a reference to some gap girl). But that's not tracing.

ZUN's art is excellent, the heck are you talking about. If it wasn't for his artistic mind, Touhou wouldn't exist

ZUN purposefully doesn't draw professionally.
That and, he can't draw straight lines, so he said.
If he drew his stuff like generic anime/art, it just won't be Touhou anymore, it'd be just another generic game. His style is unique, it stands out.

>Don't you find such things adorable?
Well, at least I do, ZUN.

>ZUN purposefully doesn't draw professionally.
>That and, he can't draw straight lines, so he said.
These two statements don't match up and they're right next to each other.

ZUN doesn't draw "professionally" simply because he's simply not skilled enough for it and he can't bothered to learn, either.

This reminds me, Keine is one of the few characters that actually trips me up in ZUN's drawing. ZUN draws a lot of little girls but he made Keine in IN look way younger than she is supposed to be. I didn't know she was a full-grown adult and teacher until much, much later when I was exposed to more Touhou stuff. Comparatively, even though Eirin seems pretty short, you can tell she is older.

Meiling in EoSD is pretty child-like too I guess.
