To change the direction of the discussion, how about listing some moege/charage that have 5+ H scenes per route and every H scene adds to the story / is meaningful and heartwarming character development and relationship development that couldn't better be done by the couple struggling through something together or having sweet conversations or just doing stuff together in general.

Because I still thoroughly enjoy moege, even some of the stuff this thread shits on, but even I think H scenes are just bloated excessive porn that takes away time and resources from other parts of the VN 90% of the time. The only VNs where I liked each H scene as part of the story were ones that didn't have any more than 2-3 H scenes depending on the length.

Surely if the VNs he reads are like that despite having more than just 2-3 H scenes, he shouldn't have any issues listing a bunch off. Maybe 4+ per route would've been a better number to set? Either way, trying to justify an excessive amount of H scenes as anything but pandering porn is silly in my opinion.

The idea of sex scenes being "a profound expression of love" is something that is immediately laughable simply by thinking of the last h-scenes you've read. In my case, I think back to Seine from Lovely Cation 2 and recall two distinct H-scenes: One, where you fuck her in a barn and make her say "moo" like a cow. Two, where you pour milk in between her huge breasts and then drink it. It's hard to take the idea of sex scenes being "profound expressions of love" when the majority of games fetishize them so much. At some very soon point in any game with more than 1 or 2 scenes, sex become an act of pleasure for both the characters and the reader.

I think "profound expression of love" might be an exaggeration in most cases, but I agree with that anon's core sentiment. Even if I don't fap to most H-scenes I still like them to be there, especially since I was introduced to this medium through shitty romance / harem anime where there's nothing but cockteasing, hardly even kissing or anything showing off that the characters are in a relationship.

If I may bring up LxC2 like you did, I think Hime's route's deflowering and first blowjob scenes are the cutest fucking I've encountered in eroge, though like other routes hers also has plenty of fetishized stuff as well. I can think of at least two scenes off the top of my head from different games where it was pretty obvious you weren't supposed to have your dick out; the girl was hurting too bad and they had to stop and no one got off. I'm surprised by how much I like Luna's character.

When I was just starting the game out I got a lot of people telling me it got boring with fashion talk after the prologue, but that only lasted 5 minutes before the characters were introduced, and so far it's funny and interesting.

Jokes aside, I feel like a lot of people reading it are mislead by the prologue, and are then disappointed or confused when the rest of the VN rolls around.
It's written by a different author from the rest of the novel, in a different tone, and it doesn't match the plot or the mood or the whole thing.

The prologue is way too heavy-handed for what is essentially a light-hearted comedy about a trap becoming a good waifu, with 'serious' bits sprinkled in to give routes more weight.
It just gives unrealistic expectations to people wanting serious plot, and it feels too heavy to people wanting light hearted trap antics. I have no idea who they thought they were pleasing with that Lés Miserables prologue.

Why does Baldr Force have so bloody annoying gameplay? I cleared Sky on hard, but Force is a pain even on normal.
It's not even the controls, I got used to those and it was a nice surprise that they were actually fairly fluid and didn't feel that dated. What's annoying is that literally every single boss enemy can either continuously levitate like the bloody Dominion miko in Sky, making them unhittable by melee, or has bonus armor on all of their attacks that makes them glance off your hits even if you hit them first.
I stopped bothering trying to combo bosses at all, since they either literally fly/walk out of my combo and counterattack for a full HP bar, or just glance them off and start attacking in the middle of them. Missile spam is the only reliable way.

Chaos;Child does explain a bit on what happens previously, but for a more detailed perspective you have to play the game. From what I see only "Sakura no Mori † Dreamers" is really worth mentioning. Moonstone doing something different. Seems to pair horror with chuuni, dunno if I really needed the latter though. Still, there's not much horror without typical "girls get raped by monsters", so this might do. Also always interesting to see companies going a little away from what's expected of them. Will put this on my backlog.

Then there's "Tarareba", which seems in theory like a fun scenario (go back to school 'cause of regrets) but the writers don't make me want do play this. Two out of three(?) heroines seem uninteresting too. Will try this maybe if I hear good stuff.

Finally "Natsuiro Kokoro Log". Probably the moege of this month. Setting (Virtual Reality with different designs in the VR part) could be used for cool stuff, but most likely won't be. (i.e. Protag will remain a dude with no choice for a female avatar, the girls remain all girls and so on) 4 writers here, so probably not too short. Will most likely try like a route or two of this. I loved Hanasaki way more than Sonabawitch. The first one had a genuine comedy and extremely comfy atmosphere, the latter had the same feeling but the comedy wasn't as good and the game had a lot of dull moments and dragged too long. Sanoba is quite fine from my own personal experience. A few things that seem stupid and later on some annoying stuff in the narration, but I'm mostly fine with what I got. Though to this point I only played Meguru.

That said, Meguru's route is both fucked up and awesome at the same time. It makes all sense, the flow is nice, it doesn't put characters on a bus for no reasons or forgets about the plot or whatever. It's actually pretty fun. Just one thing was really really REALLY weird. It's a minor spoiler I suppose though it has nothing to do with any plot: Meguru of common and her route feel almost like two different characters,even though the "change" makes sense story wise. The writer probably changed. I also started to like another heroine way more thanks to Meguru's route, one I didn't care about before.

I REALLY recommend Seisai no Resonance. It's certainly chuuni, but it uses that to forge the relationships with those being clearly in the center.

That said the eroge has weaknesses. But I found the true route stellar. The other route I played wasn't so hot in the end.
Note that it has sorta gameplay and I can't recommend to play the true route first as that has the most battles and probably the hardest. (if you clear any real route, you can skip battles. Important. The last boss I fought in my route was pretty hard.. on easy mode. 5sec stun if you get hit. ) However outside of the gameplay component you can read the true-route whenever. (the game doesn't care)

I thought about it before, but isn't there a market for the "conversion" of old books, plays and poems into the "VN" format? In my time, I suffered through some awful writing in eroge, and yet I carried on for the presentation of a work can be quite motivating in itself, and we all know how long something like the ML trilogy can be. Many people spend much of their time on computers or similar devices anyway, meaning they would be more willing to start a "book" if it were designed like any other program. Also, governments all over still uphold the pretense of maintaining culture, so they too would have some interest in creating enthusiasm for the old works in this way. Obviously some works are more suited for a conversion than others, but I really do think there is merit to the idea, at least it would motivate me to go through my other backlog.

Actually, was such a conversion already made (and I'm not thinking of a re-imagining)?

For Mahiro, I believe that she has been suppressing her desires, and always places more importance on others. Her route involves her becoming more open as to what she wants. However, it's not at the level of being a jerk. She just becomes less selfless, that's it.

I guess it depends on how you look at it. To me, the side endings were just alternate side stories, not intended to be complete satisfying conclusions in their own right, and nicely tied up the character development of their heroine. While the true route was glorious, bringing in all the growth of the other heroines while still highlighting Tia's bravery and hope, and the ending a shining beacon of her sacrifice and love.

Does she remember the all ages version's events? Just checked the original game and her lines are different in this scene, its interesting. Well Erika is always talking some ungraspable mysterious stuff so it may be just one of those though.

And done with Harumade Kururu. Overall a meh moege. The sci-fi part was just too much "infodump" and never really used to be taken seriously. It was also flawed. Some concepts were nice, but it was full of holes. I can't help but feel that the author didn't quite catch what "dimensions" are. And then the completely unscientific ending even further disqualifies this from being taking seriously. Also I never understood how the device that connects the brain to the fourth dimension could ever break through getting killed. Should be repaired like everything else as well. Heck, it doesn't even really work when the MC tries it by killing himself. If you wanna do sci-fi, that's kinda inexcusable..

So what's left is a moege with shitty h-scenes at terrible places, bad romance and some pretty bad and forced drama at times. It's not all bad, especially some of the comedy works pretty well, and there's A LOT of comedy, but overall.. nah.

With dimensions I meant it more in the sense that he never really defined things and as such it just feels weird. He says the first three dimensions get erased. If we consider that as coordinates, then it doesn't matter if the fourth one remains, as that'd just be a switch between "normal" and "not normal", while the other coordinates would be still important. As in, where is the memory in the "not normal" field. In fact, the way he built it up, it felt more like memories are 1d, with a second layer added. Basically like if you have 2 hdd in your pc. First you need the adress (first dimension), then "which hdd" (second dimension).

Well, it's weird. Another problem is also that Fuyune was supposed to be awake and able to watch videos and whatnot during the "backward swinging". That should be totally impossible as well. No matter how you define the dimensions.

But anyway, I agree that the characters are mostly fun, although I also think that most of them suffer during their own arcs. For example Harumi is super awesome.. but in her arc I just don't feel it. Sole exception is probably Fuyune, who however in exchange suffers once her arc was over.

I'm playing Natsuiro Kokoro Log. It's a rather pleasant and comfortable read up until where they introduce the girls in the in the virtual reality game their club advisor is working on. As soon as the girls step into the game most of them completely change personalities. Kuon (the red-haired girl) suddenly changes from a sharp-tongued yet diligent girl into a 100% deredere shy moeblob. Kisara (black hair) suddenly changes from cool reasonable upperclassman to calling the MC master and acting like a maid. The worst offender so far is Kotone (blue hair). She's a normally shy reversed girl but her in-game avatar appears to be complete slut, apparently she happens to be the idol of the VR world. I wasn't a fan of her to begin with but I imagine this is a bait and switch for people who like the shy type. This is just too much for me. You start off with characters who aren't deep in the slightest but still are reasonable written. Yet in the game they're complete archetypes who've fallen for MC right away, what the fuck. They even press their breasts against MC as soon as they meet his in-game character. Even if right now they think MC is just an AI they completely overdid it. Their real and in-game personalities are too jarring. I really hope it gets better.
