>Open Kans:
- Don't open your hand for a kan, except if it's dora and even then only do it when it's likely that you will open your hand anyway and noone else appears to be close to tenpai
-If your hand is already open only call open kan when you are close to tenpai, or you REALLY need the additional points
- Obviously don't call open kan when you could make use of the 3 tiles in your hand for a sequence + a pair as in 78889
>Closed Kans:
- Closed kans should be called late if possible, don't call closed kan as long as you have isolated tiles. Only call closed kan when you have only tiles in your hand that you want to keep.
-Don't call closed kan if you suspect that someone else is closer to finishing their hand than you, excpet if you REALLY need the additional points
- Like with open kans beware of situations where you could make other use of the tiles as in 678888 for example. If you have 68888 on your hand don't call kan.
- If you are in betaori and have only dangerous tiles you can declare closed kan to draw a new tile and hope that it's a safe one, but consider that you give your opponent additional dora chances this way.
>Late Kans:
- If the the 4th tile would be a safe discard it's often better to just discard it instead of calling the kan, if you suspect someone might be in tenpai, except if you're in tenapi yourself, then go for rinshan kaihou
- Remember the possibility of chankan, so don't just carelessly call open kan with a dangerous tile against riichi

Tenhou has few motivations for rigging and actually has some functional evidence that the wall is pre-determined, as mentioned in >>15055030

MJ-NET does not release wall data in replays, which is very suspect. If you've played MJ-NET for a while you've probably noticed that it feels very different than tenhou in terms of draws, winning streaks, average hand value, and so on. I also suspect that the reason they push tonpussen so hard is that it's easier to manipulate the outcome of since it's so short. A lot of japanese reviews I've read tend to echo this sentiment.

6s is quite a bit safer than 4s because three 8s are visible.

>> No.15067628

>>15067595
It doesn't mean much, in my opinion.

Having 1s in the discard pond only means they can't a 14s ryanmen wait. They can easily have 47s ryanmen wait instead, however. I've seen too many hands where someone discards a 6p or something after seeing the guy who declared riichi discard a 3p only for the wait to be 69p. If you don't have any safe tiles I guess it's marginally safer than blind discards.

>> No.15067669

>>15067623
I didn't even see the 6p, since I just assumed there would be no suji, as it would makes things too easy. 3p is best then.

I would still discard 4s over 6s otherwise, though. for 56 ryanmen wait 2 6 and 1 5 is visible and for a 78 ryanmen wait it's 3 8s and 2 7s. 2 tiles difference.
On the other hand you have a chance to get in tenpai with 12 tiles. and since you have tanayo you can even call them. I wouldn't throw that away for a measly 2 til difference between the 4 and the 6.

The hand is 2-shanten and by discarding 3m you give up 8(!) tiles to get into isshanten. By discarding 5p or 2m you give up two tiles, and by discarding 6m you give up 0 tiles. Which one do you pick?

Which one would Urabe (from Akagi) choose?

>> No.15073694

9p seems like a good choice since it's safe towards A and it would be a hell wait for Shimocha.

That's also why it's the wrong answer here, isn't it? Especially with that 8p he just dropped.

So the right answer is probably 3m.

>Because Toimen is secretly tenpai too
When facing a dealer riichi and a guy with an open hand with 3 calls that might be toitoi honitsu I wouldn't care much about a possible damaten from the 3rd player. 3m and 5m are the only tiles 100% safe against shimocha and kamicha, so one of them should definitely be discarded. 3m seems slightly safer against against toimen now that I'm looking at it, though, since 6m passed and he didn't change his wait after that. So 3m -> 5m -> other tiles

But that's the hell wait's greatest weakness. It takes that last tile to cock block it. A mangan honitsu threat like that rules out pinzu.

9p is safe against toimen and kamicha. 8p kabe with three 9p visible means the only possibility for a 9p wait is a hell wait. It's possible for shimocha to be waiting on it, depending on when he called 6p. If his hand was, for example, 2346689p then he would already be in tenpai and he'd have no need to pon.

3m is safe against kamicha and shimocha. 6m passed, and there are three 2m visible, so it's likely to be safe against toimen too.

5m is safe against kamicha and shimocha. Four 6m are visible and three 3m. It's a bit hard to tell from the calls, but it looks like your 2m came out after toimen's 1s, after which he just tsumogiri'd, so 5m is highly likely to be safe against him as well.

It's crucially important, especially when you reach tokujou, to keep track of when players call and what they discard after that.

Me and my friend Carol (just sent her a fax - recently divorced, let's all put a little prayer out for her) are the top members of the American Mah-Jongg Association and don't like it when you pull silly stunts like calling a mah-jongg-ready hand a ten pie.
Ten pie, in fact, is the name of a very valuable hand (35 cents) that incorporates all three of a bam quint, a soap pair, and a current year formation. In fact, Carol's so good she can tell if she tell if you can route a ten pie by the 2nd Charleston.

Probably this game is the closest online mahjong we can get that resembles Saki game, without actually having Saki characters. Unlocking characters, special stories, and bullshit requirements to unlock achievements.

However, the online mode is quite close to Tenhou. Rating system (but without rank), similiar house rule, just without tenpai renchan, only agari renchan. Plus, you can get surplus coins if you get 1st.

That being said, personally I won't recommend this game if you want serious game like Tenhou. If you want to play, just grab characters, especially the broken ones, play CPU mode, then go ham.
